Arghhh me hearties! Explore an epic shipwreck with the new #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay! Today, the LEGO Group has announced the latest LEGO Ideas set, bringing back memories of the beloved LEGO Pirates theme. Press-release below.
Rekindle nostalgic memories of childhood LEGO construction projects with the #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay shipwreck island model for display and play. Enjoy some calm, quality time alone building – or share the fun with others. Become a pirate with this brand-new LEGO Ideas set, inspired by the 1989 Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship model. Adventurers can now explore the island and the wreckage of Captain Redbeard’s famous ship, which was lost at sea over 30 years ago.
As you probably know already, LEGO Ideas offers fans the opportunity to submit their own brick creations with the chance to have their concept brought to life with the help of LEGO master designers and a share of the net sales. The new #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set has been created based on a submission to the LEGO Ideas platform by fan designer Pablo Sánchez Jiménez, who has a passion for all things pirate and was inspired after building LEGO brick models with his dad when he was young. The concept behind the #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set reached the 10,000-supporter milestone in just 25 days – making it one of the quickest sets to hit the target.
With 2,545 pieces in total, the model contains everything a pirate or LEGO fan needs to create the ultimate shipwreck – including a captain’s quarters, food store, kitchen, bedrooms, supply dock, farm, toilet, jail cell, and tavern. LEGO builders can even uncover buried treasure on the island by removing parts of the ship to explore new areas and create new stories.
This set also contains eight minifigures all based on pirate characters from the classic pirate lines, including the iconic Captain Redbeard, Lady Anchor, Robin Loot, and the twins, Port and Starboard, as well as three other pirates, and two skeleton figures, and various animals to discover on the island.
When builders tire of being stranded at sea, the island can also be reassembled to create Captain Redbeard’s legendary ship, the Black Seas Barracuda. Rebuild the ship to launch a rescue mission to take the ship’s crew back to safety and find the buried treasure.
The #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set measures over 23” (59cm) high, 25” (64cm) wide and 12” (32cm) deep and is sure to catch the eye whether proudly displayed or placed amongst other LEGO Pirate sets.
Here are a few more pictures of the interior of the ship as well as the structures on the island. LEGO designers did a great job making the island looking pretty good even when the shipwreck is removed.
The #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay is recommended for age 16+, and will be available directly from official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop from the 1st of April. Finally, some great news! Brilliant set! It brings back so many nostalgic memories!
Wow! This is better than I expected. It was the designers’ idea to make the ship reassembled like that, right? I don’t think it was a feature of the original.
Wow. The whole thing can turn into an island and pirate ship. Amazing! Is this the first 2-in -1 Ideas set?
This is incredible. Even the box has a classic design with the yellow border going around. The ship is perfect, the island seems like a great place to play, and all the minifigs look top-notch. Best set of the year. Heck, best pirate set ever!
Wow… that’s all I can say. The designer really nailed this. I liked the original for its rustic look, but the fact that this can turn into a ship brings it to a whole other level. All the young and old pirate fans will be all over this.
Amazing, amazing set! That they were able to make this two in one is brilliant. I’m certain that this is going to be reignite the interest in Classic Pirates.
Great, now I have to buy two of them. 😛
Yes, yes ,yes I want this set so bad. But I ‘ll be smart about it and get it later on around my birthday ( august). A pirate’s life for me .
Far better than I expected. It checks every box for me. They crammed so much nostalgia into this, and the twist of turning the whole thing into the pirate ship is genious!
We need this while under a lockdown. More than food, more than toilet paper. Haha. Seriously great set!
I know it’s different from the original, but they really nailed this set. Beautifully done and I can’t wait to get it!
I like the original idea set way better! The can call that ship Black Seas Barracuda all they want. But it is not! Only one Black Seas Barracuda has eight gun ports, and that’s mine which I added to it many years ago using my Caribbean Clipper parts which Red Beard Captured.
Thanks for sharing that! Sounds like your Black Seas Barracuda is awesome! 😀
The original concept is heaps better. This set is great though. The island is amazing but the ship is in no way the Black Seas Barracuda, the only thing in common is the colour scheme. The shrouds and ratlines are terrible, the back of the hull looks too square and lacks flow and the aft castle seriously boxy and lacking in design… great concept but needs work aesthetically.its a shame they had such a good chance to honour the original but really missed the mark.plus no cannons In the ship AND no Monkey what the hell!!???
