As we discussed last year (see: LEGO Ninjago Comic Book Series Coming!), Skybound Entertainment announced a new LEGO Ninjago comic book series that will be released this year. This first collaboration between the LEGO Group and Skybound kicks off from rising star writer/artist Tri Vuong (Everyday Hero MachineBoy), and now we have release dates for the first two issues as well as a trailer! See below.
Perfect for fans new and old alike, an official new chapter of the LEGO Ninjago universe begins! Far away from Ninjago City, a village is terrorized by a mysterious new threat when they’re saved by a stranger with incredible powers known as… Garmadon, Lord of Destruction?! Has Garmadon turned over a new leaf since his disappearance, or is this just the first step in his master plan of finally defeating Master Wu and the ninja forever?
LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon #1 is going to be released on April 6th, and LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon #2 is scheduled for May 18th. There will be three other issues in the series with release dates announced later. The series will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.
Like other comic releases from Marvel, DC Comics, etc., there will be a series of alternate covers to collect for at least the first issue. Cover A is the main version by Tri Vuong (who is also writing the comic), Cover B was designed in partnership between Tri Vuong and Annalisa Leoni, Cover C was designed by Juni Ba, and Cover D is by Tom Whalen.
The trailer below grants an all-new sneak preview of the new threats, new heroes, and new enemies at the center of the high-stakes battle in LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon #1. Has Garmadon, Lord of Destruction, actually become a hero, or is he on his way to becoming an even greater villain? There is every reason to believe it’s not good news…
As we discussed the last time we talked about the new series, back in 2013 when the Ninjago TV show on Cartoon Network was exceptionally popular, there were two series of Ninjago comics that ran simultaneously with each other and the show; the best-selling Ninjago graphic novels by Papercutz, and the Ninjago chapter books by Scholastic. They were a nice addition to the TV show and something that fans could talk about in between the episodes. So it’s exciting that we will be getting another comic series!
What do you think? Did you read the earlier Ninjago comic books? And are you looking forward to the new series? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Very cool. Will all four cover variations be available on the same platforms? Or will they be retailer specific?
I wonder if the later ones will have variations too. You know, for collectors.
I was around in the 90’s. I have bad memories of all the collector’s item cover variants…
