Three New LEGO Disney Little Mermaid Sets!

LEGO Disney news keeps coming! We recently discussed the #43215 LEGO Disney Enchanted Treehouse and the #43221 LEGO Disney 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons, both available starting on June 1st at the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Yesterday, LEGO revealed three more Disney sets, all three related to Disney’s Little Mermaid. No doubt, this has to do with the upcoming The Little Mermaid live-action film by visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall, which will open in theaters nationwide on May 26, 2023. Below is the trailer, in case you haven’t seen it yet.

As we all know, the Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The portable #43213 LEGO Disney Little Mermaid Story Book set is suitable for fans aged 5 years and above and features two underwater environments inspired by the film – that can all fold up into a neat book. Firstly, join the Ariel mini-doll in her hideout, along with Sebastian and Flounder and a collection of her land treasures. On the other side of the book, fans will find an Ursula mini-doll in her leviathan cave complete with potions and mystery. The set also features a King Triton mini-doll. The set will be released on May 1st with the following prices: $19.99/€19.99/£17.99. Already available for pre-order at the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Build your own treasure collection with the #43229 LEGO Disney Ariel’s Treasure Chest, suitable for film lovers 5 years and older. Once again featuring an Ariel mini-doll, fans can build their own treasure chest, decorate it, and fill it with keepsakes in two secret drawers. In fact, there are a few to get you started such as a candlestick, a statue, and jewels. You can also turn the key in the lock to make Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian spin – just like a music box. The set will be released on May 1st with the following prices: $47.99/€47.99/£42.99 from 1st May 2023. For more info, visit the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Not forgetting grown-up fans too, #43229 LEGO Disney Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell is the perfect play and display piece for LEGO fans. Featuring key moments from the movie, this beautiful build is rich in detail and features seven minifigure characters from the new film, including Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, Sebastian, Flounder, and Ariel’s sisters Indira and Karina. Created for the adult fan, the set includes references to throne rock, Ariel’s grotto, and Ursula’s lair. The set will be released on May 1st with the following prices: $159.99/€159.99/£139.99. Already available for pre-order at the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Given that it’s Lego, if you squint you could almost pretend these sets are directly off the original animated version. Except, of course, brace yourself for the complaints over the… well you know. Would be unfair to drag Lego into that debate, they are just licensing product for the film, they didn’t make it.

It feels a bit unexpected that Ariel and her sisters all seem to have different skin colors… Although knowing the proclivities of the Greek gods, maybe it shouldn’t really come as a surprise…

(In that case, it’s a bit sad that he managed to scare off all the mothers, though…)

I was wondering about that too. But I guess that’s the way to, you know, remain politically correct these days. Anyway, I will stick to talking about the Lego sets. The clamshell is an cool concept. I hope you guys will review it because I want to see the building techniques.

The torsos of 43229 would be quite useful if you were to build a Rio carnival float, I think…

That’ shell thing is gorgeous! I bet it’s going to be a fun build! And I like that they used minifigs and not minidolls. I don’t have anything against minidolls, but minifigs can be better blended in with other builds

How many of those books they have now? I got the first couple of them, but I believe now they have more. I lost track. And yes, the shell is incredible. I wonder how the backside looks.

Does the shell close? I wonder……

It looks pretty solid to me…

My worry is that all those white pieces will yellow with age. But other than that, I like it. 🤗
