More LEGO Ninjago 15th Anniversary News & Events!

As LEGO Ninjago marks its 15th anniversary, the LEGO Group is thrilled to tease and unveil a year of epic celebrations, special edition LEGO sets, new stories to enjoy, unexpected collaborations, including new partnerships, new digital adventures in Fortnite, and in-person events that will unite fans old and new in the spirit of the ninja lore.

When LEGO Ninjago debuted in January 2011, it went beyond a typical product launch. After 18 months of research, it transformed a simple ninja concept into a dynamic universe rich with powerful characters, immersive storytelling, and innovative playsets. The pilot season of the LEGO Ninjago series in 2011 captivated audiences, prompting the team to expand the series further. The journey continued with the launch of The Ninjago Movie in 2017 and entered a new era in 2023 with merged realms and source dragons.

The plan was for Ninjago to run for a few years, but 15 years later, the homegrown entertainment IP is still going strong and has a major fanbase across age groups. In fact, Ninjago has one of the largest fandoms in the LEGO brand. The stories about teamwork, mastering, development, and unlocking true potential have been consistent throughout the years in the TV series and products, and in 2026, the adventure will reach new heights.

Nigel Kong, Head of Product at the LEGO Group said: “As we celebrate 15 years of LEGO Ninjago, we’re incredibly proud of how this universe has developed and inspired creativity, resilience, and adventure for fans around the world. We are also endlessly thankful for our fan community, who continues to engage with the Ninjago universe. This anniversary is not just a celebration for us, it’s for our fan community – whether a lifelong or new fan, now is the time to Go Full Ninja! 2026 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the franchise.”

The First Homegrown IP Featured in LEGO Fortnite

Ninjago entered the LEGO Fortnite world for the very first time last month, inviting players to experience what it means to Master their True Potential in the digital world. The launch introduced a major content update for LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, including a brand-new LEGO Ninjago Island for fans to explore. It also transformed iconic Ninjago characters into life-size battle-ready forms within the popular Fortnite Battle Royale, complemented by Ninjago-themed Emotes in the Fortnite Shop. This is just the start of bringing fans of both Ninjago and Fortnite together, as the story continues in a second Ninjago update in 2026!

LEGO Ninjago Family Board Game Coming

To further celebrate the anniversary, the LEGO Group and Asmodee are launching a new cooperative family board game called Ninjago Destiny’s Bounty Adventures. This collaboration offers fans and families a new way to connect and enjoy the Ninjago universe together. The game is designed to bring friends and families together, letting players team up as ninjas to defend the iconic ship Destiny’s Bounty from a host of villains. The game will be available globally from July 30th, 2026.

NINJAGO is such an awesome theme. Even though some of the seasons were a bit confusing and very short lived ( the crystal army and a cool overlord Centaur with wing’s) short lived and wanted more. Now monsters , dragons , and mech oh my! The ninjago theme can be combined with other themes. Like nexo knights and legends of chima ( if you still have thoses sets). I’m thinking a new theme ninjago teams up with the teenage mutant ninja turtles. Any thoughts? Remember, the Dimensions have been split apart. So anything can happen.🤔

The whole thing shows how hard it is to conjure a hit toyline, but when you get one, you keep it going for as long as you can. Chima was supposed to be the replacement for Ninjago, and at least reached the end of its planned run. Nexo Knights after that didn’t even get a cartoon season to go with the final year of the toys. Then they went back to Ninjago and have stuck with it ever since. Other efforts since, like Monkey Kid, Dreamzzz, and Hidden Side, clearly have not hit as hard either.

Ninjago’s also proven to be very versatile. Much like He-Man in the 80s combined a low-tech barbarian setting with both magic and high-tech weapons and vehicles, Ninjago practically reinvents itself with each new sub-theme, and freely switches between ancient Asia, modern Asia, sci-fi, and mystical themes.

Color-coded hero teams also have enduring popularity across many genres (Power Rangers of course, but also Ninja Turtles, Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya, Voltron, etc.)

As I have understood it, Lego would try out a new conflict-based in-house theme about every second or third year and let it play out, but for whatever reason Ninjago has had staying power.

As the ninjas would say” a ninja never quits.” As well as the ninjago theme. Keep it up Lego. I love ninjago.

I watched Ninjago with my kids from the pilot episodes. It’s really the best kids show. It’s wholesome, it’s fun, and so much better than all the weird shows kids watch these days. I hope they will continue and don’t run out of ideas.

My brother got the Old Town Anniversary set. He went with his friends on Jan 1st as the store opened. He came hime with a big box. Our dilema now is finding where to put it.

Late to the party, but I can’t resist commenting on the blacksmith’s shop, it’s such a fantastic throwback to an iconic Ninjago spot that had never got the love it deserved… Well, there was the Dragon’s Forge set, not a bad set either–but a pretty loose interpretation of the original location. This new one is a really cool set in its own right and proof of how perennially great this theme is, that we can go back to the first episode and get a masterpiece out of it. Ahh, I should stop before I convince myself to spend money.

Oh, hey, Geneva! Long time no see! Would love to have your thoughts on this set! After all, you’re the Ninjago expert! 🙂
