LEGO Moving Castle Building Competition

The January-February issue of the LEGO Club Magazine has a few pages dedicated to introducing LEGO Nexo Knights, a brand new theme from LEGO for 2016. We have discussed the sets and the story previously (see links at the end of this post), but what I wanted to bring to your attention today is that the LEGO Club Magazine is also running a fun contest in the spirit of LEGO Nexo Knights. Below are the details 🙂

LEGO Nexo Knights Contest

Introducing the Moving Castle Building Competition! The heroes of LEGO Nexo Knights have a fully-mobile, fully-functional castle on treads for their base. How would you design your own mobile castle? Grab your LEGO bricks and build your ultimate castle. Then make it move for a chance to win the #70317 LEGO Nexo Knights The Fortrex! You can add wheels on the bottom, build special tank-treads, or even give your castle wings and a propeller… the possibilities are endless!

LEGO Nexo Knights Contest Details

As you can see from the announcement, all you need to do to enter the contest is to build a moving castle. Once you are done, take a picture of your model and email it to USClubContests (at) LEGO.com. There is no age-limit to enter, however if the contestant is a minor, they would also need to send in a competition entry form signed by a parent. It can be found at the LEGO Club website under the “Parents” tab.

I think this could be a fun weekend project for the whole family, but keep in mind that all entries must be received by February 22nd, so there is only about a week left. If you want to participate, it’s time to start planning and building! While it is not a requirement to build your castle in LEGO Nexo Knights style, you might want to take a look at the current LEGO Nexo Knights sets for inspiration. You can find them under the LEGO Nexo Knights section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Making of a LEGO paper plane machine

Brazilian LEGO fan Arthur Sacek is well known for his amazing robotic LEGO creations (links below if you haven’t seen his work yet). Arthur recently teamed up with Elevation Digital Media for making a LEGO paper plane machine for a commercial for Arrow Electronics. 🙂

LEGO Paper Plane Machine

I’m not going to say more as an introduction, because I don’t want to spoil the experience for you of watching the commercial the first time. Enjoy!

Beautiful video isn’t it? But what is even more impressive is the engineering that went into making this amazing LEGO robot. In the behind-the-scenes video below, you will learn more about how this commercial came together. Chris Lewis – Creative Director at Elevation Digital Media, Jon Stevenson – Director of Production at Elevation Digital Media, Hugo Meyer – Director of Global Brand Management at Arrow Electronics, and Arthur Sacek himself all talk about the process and the amount of work that went into this project.

What I found most impressive is how fast this robot was designed and built. Arthur had 88 hours (or approximately three and a half days) to design and put together such a complex mechanism using mostly LEGO Technic elements. He obviously has experience with LEGO robotics, but still, this was a brand new project with brand new challenges. If you would like to see more of Arthur’s work, you can check out his website at ArthurSacek.com and his YouTube channel.

What do you think? How did you like the commercial and the LEGO paper plane machine? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉
