LEGO Nexo Knights more details & picture!

As we discussed previously (see: LEGO Nexo Knights Discussion & More!), there is a LEGO Castle-type theme coming next year called LEGO Nexo Knights. While leaked images have been circulating for a while now, Brickset is the first one who posted an official picture from the back of the latest Australian LEGO Club Magazine. So let’s take a look. 🙂

LEGO Nexo Knights Logo

What we know about the LEGO Nexo Knights theme is that it is a replacement for LEGO Legends of Chima, which indicates that this is going to be a big theme with lots of sets, promotions and most likely a TV show. And while LEGO Legends of Chima was a fantasy-castle theme with animal characters, and LEGO Ninjago is a mix of the modern world with the world of the ninja, LEGO Nexo Knights is also a combination theme with fantasy, castle and even futuristic elements.

LEGO Nexo Knights

As you can see on the image above, the good guys look like LEGO Castle knights, but with some mechanical enhancements and crazy contraptions. Their shield can be used as hover-boards, and their castle is a giant moving fortress on tank-treads. They also use various mechanical contraptions like robo-horses to fight their enemies. The bad guys are devilish red and black creatures, controlled by a madly evil (or evilly mad?) wizard of some sort. I quite like the look of these characters as they remind me of the heroes in the LEGO Universe game. I also appreciate that we are going to get a brave female knight named Macy. Other characters include Robin, Aaron, Lance, Clay, Moltor, Lavaria and Jestro.

LEGO Universe Online Game

Last time I mentioned that there should be six sets in the first wave of LEGO Nexo Knights released in January, but this number now increased to ten (perhaps some of these are promotional or exclusive sets). In addition there are six more sets that are titled “Ultimate”, which either mean a new type of game like the LEGO Ninjago spinners and flyers, or the LEGO Legends of Chima Speedorz, or perhaps some LEGO Constraction Figures.

I have seen preliminary images of some of the sets, and they had a gray, blue and translucent-orange color scheme for the vehicles on the side of the good guys, and black with translucent-orange for the bad guys. I really hope that the knights look as good as on the poster above and not what I have seen on the preliminary images. On the poster they look metallic, mechanical and awesome, while on the set images I have seen they look more like the colorful “rainbow knights” from LEGO Knights Kingdom II theme. Interestingly, in LEGO Knights Kingdom II some of the characters also used their shields as hover-boards; just take a look at the Vladek promotional figure below.

LEGO Knights Kingdom II

All in all I’m looking forward to this theme, especially the characters. It was not exactly what I was hoping for (I would really like a more traditional fantasy based LEGO Castle theme with elves, dwarves, dragons and all, but I understand that might be too close to the current LEGO Elves theme with mini-dolls. Or a real-life like LEGO Castle theme with knights, villagers, monks, etc.), but I liked the heroes in LEGO Universe, and the LEGO Nexo Knights look quite like them, so they are welcome in my kingdom.

What about you? What do you think of LEGO Nexo Knights? Are you looking forward to this theme, or planning to pass on it? Are there any other interesting details you notice on the poster above? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Interesting to note, that the #71204 LEGO Dimensions Doctor Who Level Pack includes a different Doctor, and the #71238 LEGO Dimensions Cyberman Fun Pack has a somewhat differently built Dalek. So if you are a Doctor Who fan you will have fun collecting all three sets.

Also, my understanding is that all those really nice designs on the LEGO Ideas Doctor Who sets are printed pieces. I’m not 100% positive about this yet, but so far all LEGO Ideas sets came with printed elements, so I really hope that LEGO will continue this tradition.

#21304 LEGO Ideas Doctor Who Minifigs

I think the set looks fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for better. It is also very close to the original design submitted by Andrew Clark to LEGO Ideas, which is nice to see. As mentioned above, the set will be available in December, so there is a bit of waiting we have to go through, but in the meantime you can also check out the other sets submitted by LEGO fans under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.
