2024 LEGO City Police Sets Overview

In 2024, LEGO City brings back two reoccurring sub-themes; LEGO City Fire and LEGO City Police. Another extensive LEGO City sub-theme this year is LEGO City Space. We talked about the LEGO City Fire and LEGO City Space sets already (see links at the end of this post), and today, we will take a look at the LEGO City Police sets.

This year, we got four new LEGO City Police sets. The smallest is the #60415 LEGO City Police Car and Muscle Car Chase with two vehicles and two minifigs for $19.99. It’s the standard cop-chasing-diamond-thief setup that appeared in LEGO City many times, but the muscle car is an especially excellent upgrade with a flashy color-scheme. The set is available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

A bit larger action-oriented set is the #60417 LEGO City Police Speedboat and Crooks’ Hideout for $34.99. It features a police patrol boat and a crooks’ hideout hidden among old cargo containers at the city docks. I really like the colors in this set. This would be a great addition to a city diorama near the docks adding a bit of fun and action. Also, note the LEGO bulldog – a still very rare piece that only appeared in two other sets to date. Available at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #60418 LEGO City Police Mobile Crime Lab Truck for $54.99. This is a popular setup in LEGO City Police that we have seen a number of times in the past. A truck that opens to reveal a full crime scene lab. It features workstations, a map, CCTV screens, a microscope, a coffee machine, and a jail cell. The set also includes a forensic scene and the crooks’ quad bike, as well as two police officers, two crooks, and a scientist. Those new fence pieces are going to be useful for many different applications. In the video-review below, JANGBRiCKS will show you the set in detail. And if you’re interested, you can find it at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The big set for the year is the #60419 LEGO City Police Prison Island for $99.99. It is home to some of the city’s most notorious crooks with plans to escape. This cliffside prison features a control room, an officers’ break room, an entrance hall, a courtyard with a secret escape hatch, a kennel room, a cell with beds, and an escape tunnel that leads to an abandoned mine, plus a prisoner’s laundry room with jailbreak tools. Other details include a helipad and a cliff face with a loose rock for an explosive exit. A helicopter, police boat, dinghy, three officers and four prisoners, plus a police dog and a shark are also included. The video-review below will show you all the different play-features and functions, and for even more details, visit the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The game will be officially unveiled to retailers and industry partners at the Nuremberg Toy Fair and will be available for purchase from October 3rd at Spiel Essen, the world’s largest board game convention, and from select leading retailers around the world.

Asmodee is an entertainment leader specializing in board games, committed to bringing people together through great games and amazing stories.  Thanks to its global and passionate workforce of over 2,500 people, players around the world enjoy one of the largest board game IP catalogs with CATAN, Ticket to Ride, Dobble/Spot it!, Exploding Kittens, and 365 more across a variety of physical and digital platforms. Headquartered in France (Boulogne-Billancourt), Asmodee operates across Europe, North America, South America and Asia.

Monkey Palace was created by game designers, David Gordon and Tin Aung Myaing, and provides family fun for all ages. It is a jungle-themed game of light strategy tailored for two to four players, incorporating both collaborative and competitive elements.

Players must strategically work together to construct the Monkey Palace while competing for the highest brick income and points, all under the watchful gaze of the Monkey. The palace gradually takes form, resulting in an impressive construction using LEGO elements that players can proudly display at home. The iconic LEGO System in Play means that each time the board game is played, the building experience and final construction are totally unique and different.

Birgitte Bülow, industry veteran and leading the LEGO board game creation team at Asmodee, said: “We’re thrilled to take all LEGO and board game fans on this gaming journey, combining the LEGO Group’s timeless creativity with our passion and expertise in board games. Utilizing the endless possibilities of LEGO bricks was pivotal in designing this game. We believe Monkey Palace offers an extraordinary gameplay experience, blending competition and collaboration for board game enthusiasts worldwide.”

Jaume Fabregat, Board Games Lead, LEGO Publishing, said, “At the LEGO Group, we’re committed to inspiring the builders of tomorrow, which is why we’re so delighted to reveal Monkey Palace in collaboration with Asmodee. The game challenges kids and adults alike to use LEGO elements to build, unbuild and rebuild their palaces, creating a fun play experience where no two games are the same. This latest collaboration allows us to bring even more creative and innovative ways to play.”

This collaboration was the result of extensive research and development undertaken by both companies, with the shared goal of creating new social experiences in play that transcend generations. Together, the LEGO Group and Asmodee aim to discover innovative ways to combine the beloved LEGO System in Play with the socially interactive nature of board games, delivering new and unique play experiences for families and LEGO fans.
