And that’s the line up of the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets scheduled for January. Personally I have no interest in the sets, although I’m planning to pick up some of the minifigs. I find this to be a consistent issue with licensed LEGO sets; some of these licenses are just not ideal for LEGO. Just look at that Mech in the last set; it looks atrocious, but LEGO designer’s hands are tied by the original TMNT design. Compare the TMNT Mech to something like the Ninjago Samurai Mech, which is gorgeous. But there LEGO designers could do whatever they want as it is their own design.
Unfortunately the money is in the licensed sets. This is just my own preference, but I rather go for non-licensed sets, and pick up minifigs from licensed ones. As long as there is a good balance between licensed and non-licensed themes, I’m happy. The only exception is Star Wars. There LEGO is doing an excellent job. But Star Wars just leads itself to be LEGO-ised.
What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets? Do you have a favorite that you will definitely get? And how do you like the minifigures? Feel free to share your thoughts below. 🙂
