LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 Designer-Video

The latest vehicle model in the LEGO Creator Expert line is the just-released #10271 LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500. You can read more about the set in the press-release (see: LEGO Creator Fiat 500 Press-Release), and today we will take a look at the designer-video and also talk a bit more about the set.

In the video below, LEGO designer Pierre Normandin shows off all the features of the LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500, and also talks about how it was developed.

There are several interesting features worth noting from the video; the foldable cloth sun-roof, the cool-yellow (also called bright-light-yellow) color-scheme that is still quite rare, the three sets of stickers for the license plates (Italy, Denmark, and Germany), and the lovely painting. All in all, a cute little car, that will go especially well with the #10252 LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle. And, I’m particularly happy that the release of this set means we are getting more pieces in bright-light-yellow!

Here is the official description of the set: The #10271 LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 model car recreates a true icon of classic automotive design. Teenagers and adult fans will enjoy the challenging building experience offered by this model kit based on the Fiat 500F legend from the late ‘60s, and will appreciate all the authentic LEGO brick details, such as the luggage rack with suitcase, detailed interior, and opening roof, doors, hood and tailgate. To complete the Italian theme, this classic model car also includes a folding easel with a paintbrush, palette, and small ‘painting’ of the car in front of the famous Colosseum in Rome. Measuring over 11 cm (4.5 inches) high, 24 cm (9.5 inches) long and 11 cm (4.5 inches) wide, this buildable model makes for an impressive display piece on its own or as part of a collection of LEGO sets. 960 pieces. Price: $89.99 – BUY HERE

Although the #10271 LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 is as cute as it gets, it does get some criticism too. Some people feel that the Fiat was not worthy of becoming a LEGO Creator Expert set, due to the real car’s cheapness, unreliable performance, and quirky look. Another criticism is that the rounding of the shapes didn’t work out as well as in the #10252 LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle, and some of the curves look odd. Also, while the #10271 LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 matches the functionality of some of the earlier LEGO Creator Expert vehicles like the #10242 LEGO Creator Expert MINI Coper MK VII from 2014 and the #10252 LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle from 2016, it does not come up to the standard of the #10265 LEGO Creator Ford Mustang from 2019, which has both steering and customization features, and the #10262 LEGO Creator James Bond Aston Martin DB5 from 2018 with its cool hidden functions. These two vehicles set the standard so high it’s hard to match, and compared to them, the little Fiat 500 is definitely feels less exciting and more predicable. It’s a car for a different target audience.

If you would like to check out the LEGO Creator Expert vehicles collection, the #10220 LEGO Creator Expert Volkswagen T1 Camper Van (available since 2011, making it the most successful and longest standing vehicle in this line), the #10252 LEGO Creator Expert Volkswagen Beetle, the #10258 LEGO Creator Expert London Bus, the #10262 LEGO Creator James Bond Aston Martin DB5, the #10265 LEGO Creator Ford Mustang, and the #10269 LEGO Creator Expert Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. You can find them all at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500? And how do you think it compares to the other LEGO Creator Expert Vehicles? Do you have any of them in your collection? Which one is your favorite? And are you planning to get the Fiat 500? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!
