One of the most impressive projects at the recent 2019 BrickWorld Chicago event was built by the online LEGO User Group, RebelLUG. Unlike traditional LEGO User Groups whose members are from the same geographical area, RebelLUG members are from many different countries, including Gemany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, France, England, Croatia, the U.S, and Australia. This makes collaboration on larger projects difficult. However, this didn’t deter this group of talented young LEGO fans from creating an elaborate Star Wars projects called The Laceropes Mission. The story itself is original fan fiction by RebelLUG members, centered on the clone troopers named Validus Squad (custom minifigures were made by customizer AV Figures). The collaboration itself includes ten large dioramas, which you can check out below.

The ten dioramas include the Base Camp built by Anders Lind (a.k.a. Alcloneproductions), the Monotonous March built by Noah Hennings (a.k.a. H2brick), the Evacuation By Force by Spencer Hubert (a.k.a. LegoSpencer), the Revolt at the Mine by Wyatt Matan (a.k.a. WMX Productions), In The Dark by Caleb Walker (a.k.a. Elven Ranger), Behind Enemy Lines by Olav Grimstad (a.k.a. NorLego), Dawn of Betrayal by Drew Spencer (a.k.a. Packer221), The City Walls by Lukas Nyd (a.k.a. TheBrickPuke), Guerrilla Warfare by Everette Howard (a.k.a. A Brick Interest), and Siege of the Capital by Luka Grković (a.k.a. First Order Lego). Below, I have included pictures of the ten dioramas, as well as videos of all ten projects, with the complete story of The Laceropes Mission, command log entry readings, detailed commentaries, and different angles of the builds.

In the player below, I have added videos of all ten builds, which tells the story of each diorama in detail. You can use the drop-down list in the upper left corner of the player to choose the video you want to watch, or just let them play one after the other. I do recommend watching them in order so you get the full story.

Building huge projects like this takes tremendous amount of planning, organization, LEGO parts, and building time. If you would like to learn more about how RebelLUG operates and pulls together such impressive projects, as well as to get to know their members, and hear about their future collaborations visit their website at RebelLUG.com.

What do you think? Did you visit BrickWorld Chicago before? Which displays were your favorites? Did you have a chance to check out these LEGO Star Wars dioramas we talked about here? How did you like them? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

LEGO Ideas New Contest & Activities

There are a couple of pieces of news from the LEGO Ideas platform that’s relevant to teen and adult LEGO fans. First, here is a new contest, inspired by the new LEGO Ideas Space Exploration sets, and second, the LEGO Ideas Activities feature we talked about previously (see: LEGO Ideas Activities – A New Way to Share!) is now open to all LEGO Ideas members after a closed testing period that was only available to select participants. Details below.

LEGO IDEAS MOON TO MARS CONTEST: Imagine if you could help NASA take the next big step in space, taking us from the Moon to Mars! How would you get us there? It’s time to think innovative and be inventive when you show the community what kind of space vehicle you think it would take to make it to Mars. Oh, and you should of course build it in LEGO bricks! The contest consists of three phases: 1.) Submission Phase – Build and submit your entry before August 1st, 2019 at 6:00 AM EST. 2.) Judging Phase – A panel of judges consisting of members of the LEGO Space team and NASA will choose the winners by August 15th, 2019. 3. Winners Announcement - The LEGO Ideas team will share the grand prize winner and two runner-up winners here on LEGO Ideas no later than August 22nd, 2019. You can read up on the contest details, contest rules, and submit your entry here: LEGO IDEAS MOON TO MARS CONTEST

As far as the prizes, you might have to make room on your space shelf at home because the grand prize winner will get a spacylicious package of LEGO sets consisting of: #60224 LEGO City Satellite Service Mission, #60225 LEGO City Rover Testing Drive, #60226 LEGO City Mars Research Shuttle, #60227 LEGO City Lunar Space Station, #60228 LEGO City Deep Space Rocket & Launch Control, #60229 LEGO City Rocket Assembly & Transport, #60230 LEGO City Space Research People Pack, #10266 LEGO Creator Expert Lunar Lander, #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, #31091 LEGO Creator Shuttle Transporter, LEGO Creator Expert VIP Space Patch, #40335 LEGO Space Rocket Ride. Two runner-up winners will each receive: #60226 LEGO City Mars Research Shuttle, #10266 LEGO Creator Expert Lunar Lander, #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, #31091 LEGO Creator Shuttle Transporter, LEGO Creator Expert VIP Space Patch, #40335 Space Rocket Ride.

LEGO IDEAS ACTIVITIES OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS: Back in May, the LEGO Ideas team introduced a new way to showcase the creativity of the LEGO fan community called LEGO Ideas Activities. Activities are small, informal warm-up challenges that the LEGO Ideas team sets forth on a more regular basis than contests and are of a shorter participation period. The program allows LEGO fans to unleash their creativity in shorter bursts without the need to spend a lot of time building big creations. With Activities, there are no winners and prizes. However, from time to time the LEGO Ideas team may feature some of the coolest designs on LEGO’s social media channels to celebrate the skills of LEGO fans.

The LEGO Ideas team started off Activities with a challenge titled “Build Your Finest Micro Modular Building!” that run until mid-May. The submissions to this challenge can now be seen at this page. A second Activity started a couple of days ago titled “Build Your Holiday Essentials!” The deadline for this activity is July 8th, 2019 at 4:00 AM EST. The LEGO Ideas team would like to see some of your holiday essentials in LEGO bricks. So, start building some of those summer staples before you put on your shades and kick back in the sun. You can read up on the activity details, activity rules, and submit your entry here: BUILD YOUR HOLIDAY ESSENTIALS!

It looks like the LEGO Ideas team intends to keep LEGO fans busy during the summer season. You can participate in the longer and more challenging contests (currently there are two active contests running), or the shorter activities. And, even if you don’t plan to participate in the LEGO Ideas challenges, I strongly recommend checking out the contest entries. The talent and skill within the LEGO fan community is amazing, and you might find something that will inspire your own future projects.

And don’t forget about all the recently released LEGO Ideas sets like the #21316 LEGO Ideas The Flintstones, the #21317 LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie, the previously released but still available #21315 LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book, the #21311 LEGO Ideas Voltron, the #21313 LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle, the #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, the #21312 LEGO Ideas Women of NASA, and the #21314 LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy. You can find them all at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Have you participated in any of the recent LEGO Ideas contests? And what do you think of the new Activities feature? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
