July 2018 – new LEGO sets & Promotions

There are quite a few new LEGO sets this month, including the first wave of the long-awaited and very exciting reboot of the LEGO Harry Potter line. In addition, there are also a number of promotions, Double VIP Points, and more. Check below for all the details and enjoy all the good things LEGO brings us this summer. 🙂

FREE LEGO BEACH TOTE: During the first week of July (until July 8th), you will get a free exclusive LEGO Beach Tote with purchases of $199 or more. LEGO offered a similar tote bag in previous summers, but this one looks even better with the blueprint of a minifig on really nice dark-blue material. The size of the tote is 18×18 inches. With all the new sets out, it’s not hard to meet the minimum purchase amount at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO PARTY BANANA MINIFIGURE: The second week of July (July 9-15) you will get a free LEGO Party Banana Minifigure with purchases of $35 or more. This offer is also valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

DOUBLE VIP POINTS: Although this is not mentioned in the calendar, but LEGO sent out an email that LEGO VIP members will earn Double VIP Points on all purchases until July 7th. In addition, LEGO is offering Double VIP Points on the #31079 LEGO Creator Sunshine Surfer Van, and the #31080 LEGO Creator Modular Winter Vacation for the entire month of July. Find both at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO VIP EARLY ACCESS TO VOLTRON SET: As mentioned in the press-release of the #21311 LEGO Ideas Voltron set (see: LEGO Ideas Voltron Set Announcement), LEGO VIP members get early access to the set starting on July 23rd (regular release will be on August 1st). You can find the set at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO VIP EARLY ACCESS TO MYSTERY SET: There is another early access to a LEGO exclusive starting on July 18th, but it is not yet clear what this set is going to be. It could be the mysterious James Bond-inspired set LEGO tweeted about last month, or it could be something else. Stay tuned, as it shouldn’t take long for an official announcement!

LEGO HARRY POTTER SETS AVAILABLE: While initially LEGO stated that the new LEGO Harry Potter sets will be available in August, it looks like they decided to release them early! The #75950 LEGO Harry Potter Aragog’s Lair, the #75953 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Whomping Willow, the #75954 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall, the #75955 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express, and the #75956 LEGO Harry Potter Quidditch Match are now available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

Favorite landmark with LEGO building contest

Do you have a favorite building, structure, or landmark? Even if it’s no longer standing or you’ve moved away, architecture marvels can still be meaningful. In this new contest for teen and adult LEGO fans, you are invited to build your most beloved place, city, or building using LEGO bricks. This contest is run by LEGO directly, so the contest is fun and the prizes generous. Check out the details below. 🙂

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – OVERVIEW: What’s your favorite place in the world? What structures, landmarks, or building define it? Whether it’s a well-known location or a beloved childhood haunt, LEGO invites you to build it using LEGO pieces. As long as it’s a real place that means something to you, they want to see it! You are welcome to also take a picture of your model next to its real life counterpart, or include a photo of the real life location for reference.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – HOW TO ENTER: Build your favorite place, structure or building using LEGO pieces. Take up to five photos (you are welcome to include a picture of your entry with the real life location, or a picture of the real life location for reference) and submit them to the contest. Use the description field to share details about your entry to – then hit “submit”. When you receive a “Success!” pop-up notification after clicking “submit” on the entry submission page, your entry has successfully been submitted. the Rebrick moderation team will review it within 1-3 days (excluding weekends and holidays) to make sure it fits all the contest rules.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – RULES: Your entry should be a real life location, not a fantasy location. Please do not include LEGO minifigures in your entry. LEGO encourages you to build in the LEGO Architecture style and scale – although this is not a requirement for entry. You can also take a photo of your model with the real life location – just please don’t include yourself in the photo. You can also just include a photo of the location for reference so long as it’s a photo you took yourself. You are still welcome to submit your entry even if the original structure or location is no longer standing. Entries with military or religious themes will not be eligible for the contest. Entries containing defamatory or degrading elements will not be eligible for the contest. Entries consisting of or containing copies of any existing third party work or creation or infringements of any third party intellectual property right will not be eligible for the contest. Entries can be previously built, but cannot be submitted previously in any contest of any kind competing for a prize. Each entry must have been made by the user submitting it, submitting entries you did not make yourself could result in your account being removed and all entries being disqualified. Use of LEGO Digital Designer to create your entry is allowed, along with photo editing software or adding effects to your entry. Entries must not contain LEGO elements which have been modified from their original form, including painted or cut elements. Entrants must be at least 13 years of age at the time of entry. You can read the rest of the entry guidelines and rules here.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – DEADLINE: You must submit your entry by August 2nd, 2018 at 10:00 AM EST. If you are not sure what time zone you are in, you can use an online time-zone converter to make sure you don’t miss the deadline.

LEGO ARCHITECTURE CONTEST – JUDGES: A panel of judges from the LEGO Architecture team will select one grand prize winner and two runner up winners. They will judge entries upon: overall coolness and originality – 25%, most inspired details – 25%, relevance to contest theme – 25%, best use of LEGO elements – 25%.

Guggenheim Museum, #21036 LEGO Architecture Arc de Triomphe, #21039 LEGO Architecture Shanghai, #21041 LEGO Architecture Great Wall of China, #21042 LEGO Architecture Statue of Liberty, an upcoming 2018 LEGO Architecture product not yet revealed, and a Winner’s Certificate.

LEGO CONTEST – WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT: Winners will be contacted on the email address associated with their LEGO ID account after August 7th, 2018 and announced on Rebrick when the winners returned the signed Winner’s Certification Documents. A winner who does not return their Winner’s Certification Document within one week (5 days) of receiving it will be disqualified, and a new winner will be selected.

This is another fantastic contest by LEGO, and I’m very curious to see the entries and the stories that come with it. It’s a little strange that LEGO allows both LEGO Architecture scale and other scale buildings in the same contest, but hopefully it won’t be too confusing to the participants and the judges. Even if you are not planning to enter the contest, I recommend checking out the entries for some ideas and inspirations for your own future projects. And you can also take a look at the currently available LEGO Architecture sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like this LEGO Architecture contest? Are you planning to enter? What memorable building are you going to recreate in LEGO? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉
