LEGO SUPER HEROES Spider-Man set coming!

by admin on July 10, 2012

in LEGO Super Heroes

One set LEGO Super Heroes fans have been waiting for is the #6873 LEGO Super Heroes Spider-Man’s Doc Ock Ambush. This newest addition to the LEGO Super Heroes line is scheduled for release in August, however Wal-Mart started listing them for sale early. It is currently shown as out of stock on their website (wasn’t available for long!), however they do have some great images I thought to share with you.

Here is the description of the LEGO Super Heroes Spider-Man set: Scheming Doctor Octopus has captured Iron Fist and is conducting experiments on him, trying to steal his superpowers. Help Spider-Man sneak in through the air-vent and swoop down on Doc Ock to release Iron Fist! Then stop the wicked doctor from fleeing on his missile-firing car!

And here are some of the features of the LEGO Spider-Man set:

  • Doc Ock’s lab features a containment cell, examination-table and air-vent shaft.
  • Doc Ock’s car features a rotating seat, spinning octopus arm-attachment and flick-missiles.
  • Doctor Octopus comes with the detachable, poseable octopus-arms, and you can also attach the octopus-arms to his car for a spin-attack.
  • Includes 3 minifigures: Spider-Man, Iron Fist and Doctor Octopus
  • The set comes with 295 pieces and listed at $29.97 at Wal-Mart’s website.

And here are the three minifigures from the Spider-Man set:

As you probably know, this is not the first time LEGO tackled the Spider-Man theme. There were several LEGO Spider-Man sets released between 2002 and 2004, featuring both Spider-Man and Doc Ock. You can check out the previous LEGO Spider-Man sets here: LEGO Spider-Man Sets

Here is a comparison picture of the LEGO Spider-Man through the years. The first version on the left is the original LEGO Spider-Man from 2003, the middle one is the second version from 2004-2005 (identical to the first version in every way, except for the dark-blue color). On the right is the new LEGO Spider-Man. As you can see; he got redesigned quite a bit, with larger eyes, black spider-webs instead of silver, a smaller spider on his chest, and his belt is now printed on his torso, instead of on the hips. And he got back the original blue color, which I’m happy about. :)

So, how do you like the new LEGO Super Heroes Spider-Man set? And what about the minifigs? I like the new Doc Ock better than the original, and I like Spider-Man too, except for his eyes. I think they are a bit too big. Also, I liked the printed belt on the original versions. Iron Fist is a new minifig, and he looks great in my opinion. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment section below! ;)

Yeah, I know. I was debating if I should add that one as well, but then I decided against it as it is a very different minifigure with a different target audience. ;)

I wonder if the Spider-man minifig will be exclusive to this set. I’d like to pick one up but I don’t really want all the bricks or the rest of it. I guess we’ll see how Bricklink fares if there are no smaller sets. Am hoping for a polybag.

I think this will be the only set he comes in.

Brian July 10, 2012 at 11:52 AM

Well I suppose it’s a pretty sweet minifig and worth $30 for me at least.

Brian, I don’t think the minifigs in these sets are going to go for $30. I’m pretty sure you should be able to get it for a lot less once the set is readily available. My guess is it is going to be about $15. ;)

Brian, yeah, a popybag would be nice! We shall see… ;)

I hope lego continues on with the marvel/ DC sets. There are so many super hereos in both.

I agree. Luckily both are a Multi-Year licences. Hopefully DC will not be dominated by Batman quite as much and other heroes will get made.

This is one of those sets that is not bad, but it could have been so much better. Don’t get me wrong, the minifigures looks spot on compared to their animated counterparts, but I would have preferred a Spider-Man villain that LEGO has not made yet that was in the show (like Venom). Also, Iron Fist, while well done , is only one of a team, and it feels odd that they would made only two members total (It would be like LEGO making Avengers sets with only Captain America and the Hulk). Finally, we still don’t have a Nick Fury minifigure. He is rather important in the show, and it feels like a bit of a let down to not have him in either the Avengers sets of this. As is, the set is good and I will buy it, but I would have liked it to be $40-$60 to make it a truly great set. Hopefully, LEGO will release more Spider-Man sets to help deal with this.

Jacob, yeah, that’s the hope; that with the licence they will continue producing sets with these iconic superheroes and villains. I guess they are starting with the most well-known characters and go from there. ;)

I think I like the old spiderman minifigures better. The new looks like he’s wearing a blue jacket over his spidey suit. Also I wonder which emblem is on his back: the beetle looking spider, or the new spiderman long-legged spider. Probably the latter. To me it’s like the clone wars minifigures. Eyes are too big.

Yeah, the eyes were my biggest issue too. I liked the old one better. :?
