LEGO Lord of the Rings new characters?

As you probably already know the LEGO Lord of the Rings video-game is scheduled to be released on October 20th, 2012. We talked about the video-game before; you can read the previous posts here: LEGO Lord of the Rings Video Game Coming!, LEGO Lord of the Rings New Trailer

The reason I’m bringing up the topic again is because the game is advertised through several new posters, which reveal some interesting details about possible future LEGO Lord of the Rings minifigures. 😛

Below is a larger image of the LEGO Lord of the Rings bad-guys poster, so you can better see the details. As you can see it features the wizard Saruman (nice hair/beard combo – hopefully LEGO will do this for Gandalf as well!),  a fully armored Cave-Troll, Shelob (the evil thing is spider-form), the Lord of  the Nazgul (a.k.a. Witch King) on his terrifying ride, the Balrog of Moria (looks awesome!), and some Uruk-hai, Orcs and Ringwraiths.

And here is the new Lord of the Rings game poster featuring (mainly) the good-guys. Here we get a closer look of the Witch King, and there is a Mumakil – or “Oliphaunt”, as the Hobbits called it. I really hope LEGO will make some! We need a herd of these! Oh, and I love the expression on Gollum’s face! I hope they make him into a minifig just like that! 🙄

Again, before you get too excited, please remember that these are posters for the LEGO Lord of the Rings game, and there is no guarantee that LEGO will make them into actual characters in sets. However we can hope that they will! In the meantime you can pre-order the game on Amazon.

So what do you think? How do you like the LEGO Lord of the Rings game characters? And which one is your favorite that LEGO should definitely make? Share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

I saw the poster with Saruman yeterday, but not the other ones! These are EXTREMELY cool.

Personally, I would really like to see Lord of the Nazgûl and the Fell Beast, the armored troll, and Saruman the most of the stuff above, but they really need to make Éowyn and Arwen, and any of the Ents (Treebeard preferably) A figure of Sauron as he is shown at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring would be nice as well. Not opposed to Oliphaunts (and I kinda would like to see them) but they are large enough to fully crush a hose underfoot, and I doubt LEGO will try to keep this scale in a set.

Jacob, yeah, the ladies are still missing. Although I vaguely remember seeing another poster with Galadriel… I would have to dig that picture up. And yes, we definitely need Ents! Even if the Oliphaunts would be just regular LEGO elephant size I would be happy. I really miss those elephants! I have two; a dark gray and a light gray one, but I could use more in battle scenes! (Which is what mostly happens around my place.) And the Oliphaunts would work great as the larger cousins of the regular ones. 😉

I find it notable that the Balrog’s fire whip appears to be constructed with the linking technique that uses the base pins in the 90’s dragon flame mold. Not only have those pins been removed in the new mold, but I doubt Lego would put such an advanced technique in a production design.

Johnathan, that’s a really good point. I love that fire-technique, but you are right, it could be a bit much for little kids. I’m pretty sure thought that the original flame with the pins is still available. I know there is a new mould without the pins and LEGO may be phasing out the original version, but there are at least a 2012 sets with them for sure. Maybe they will come up with something else. But in either way I would really like to see Balrog. He looks awesome! 😀

I definitely would like to see minifigures of Saruman, Arwen, Galadriel, and Eowyn. I’m glad to see the Elrond fig that’s coming out with the game (I may buy the game just for that), though it would be nice to have him in a Hobbit set, too. It looks like he’s wearing armor from the Second Age battle in this one, so it would be cool to have him in more “normal” clothes. I would also like to see a higher number of “good guys” in the next wave of LOTR sets (Rohirrim, elves, etc.) Of course, the Witch-King, Sauron, fell-beasts, and the Balrog would be fantastic, too!

Totally hyped up about the Witch King and Balrog and Saruman and Mumakil. Basically its all good. btw did you notice the apparent Eowyn figure in the second featured poster?

    • admin September 28, 2012, 10:11 AM

Oh, gosh! How could I miss her?! I really hope she will be a minifig! Especially from that scene! She was so brave! So inspirational! 🙂

Yeah, Eowyn vs. The Witch King would be an AWESOME set. One of the coolest scenes in the entire trilogy would be an epic set.

I agree with all of you. Keep in mind that LEGO just started with lord of the rings sets in 2012 . So, I hope their will be more. The other thing is to keep telling LEGO that this is what you are looking for in the seires. Customer input is very important. Be the squeaky wheel.
