As we are getting closer to the official release of the LEGO The Hobbit sets, more and more exciting news is coming out about the theme. First we got the poster-images of all the LEGO Hobbit sets (see: LEGO The Hobbit sets – First Pictures!), and now the official LEGO The Hobbit website is open, with LEGO revealing a new set each week. Check them out below! 🙂
So far three of the LEGO Hobbit sets have been uploaded, with more to come in the following weeks. Each of the currently revealed sets feature detailed pictures, set descriptions and an interview with the set-designer. You can zoom in the pictures to check out all the little details – a really nice feature! You can also read more about each character.
Here I will show you the three LEGO The Hobbit sets featured so far to give you a taste, then if you like, you can bookmark the page on LEGO’s website and watch as a new set gets revealed each week.
➡ #79000 LEGO The Hobbit – The Riddles of the Ring: On the shores of an underground lake beneath the Misty Mountains, Bilbo Baggins, armed with Sting, discovers a magic ring that was recently lost by the creature Gollum. Use the reveal function to take the golden Ring! But beware – only Gollum, aboard his boat of Goblin skin and bones, knows the way out. Can our Hobbit hero solve the riddles asked by Gollum and escape to freedom with the Ring before Gollum realizes it’s gone? You decide as you build and recreate this famous scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Includes 2 minifigures: Bilbo Baggins and Gollum.
Here is the introductory video with LEGO designer Hans Henrik Sidenius showing you all the details of this small LEGO The Hobbit set:
➡ #79003 LEGO The Hobbit – An Unexpected Gathering: Gandalf the Grey has invited the Dwarves to Bag End – the Hobbit home of Bilbo Baggins. At first, Bilbo is not happy about cooking for so many unexpected and rude guests! But when they invite him to join their quest to The Lonely Mountain, the Company set out on their epic adventure.
Here is the introductory video with senior LEGO designer Bjarke Lykke Madsen – I have shown you this video before, but I thought to add it here again for completeness, and in case you missed it last time. It is a little hard to understand Bjarge, but it is worth watching as he will show you all the details.
➡ #79010 LEGO The Hobbit – The Goblin King Battle: The Goblins have captured the heroic Dwarves and imprisoned them deep inside their filthy caves. Gandalf the Grey sneaks past The Goblin King to free his friends. But the cunning Goblins have a few nasty surprises in store for any intruder that threatens their lair. And they don’t surrender easily!
Here LEGO designer Hans is back, showing you the biggest and meanest LEGO Hobbit sets. Lots of details here and lots of traps!
These are the three LEGO The Hobbit sets revealed so far the #79002 LEGO The Hobbit Attack of the Wargs is scheduled to be uploaded on October 29th, the #79001 LEGO The Hobbit Escape from Mirkwood Spiders on November 5th, and the #79004 LEGO The Hobbit Barrel Escape on November 12th. Go to the LEGO The Hobbit website to see the updates as they come out.

I do like the close up designer videos. I wish that they would do this more often so that we get a better idea of what is in a set before we buy it. Although The Riddles of the Ring is still my least favorite of the Hobbit sets, I like it a little bit more after seeing it built. However, in the video, Gollum’s face looked to be the same as in Shelob attacks. Hopefully the actual released set will show they have different printed face.
admin, I gave you a link to this page ages ago. Did you use it?
Yeah, I remember you mentioning it sometime back. I decided to wait though until more sets were added. 😉
Oh thanks! You are awesome by the way!
They are all Denish right?
Yeah, Hans and Bjarke (not Bjarge, that’s just the pronunciation) are Danish, hence their accents.
There are some designers who aren’t Danish, though, but to work as a professional designer for Lego, it’s basically required to move to the Danish headquarter in Billund and ultimately learn Danish.
Very interesting! Sounds like Danish is a difficult language. At least it sounds difficult to me from the accents these guys have. 🙂
Yeah, its accent is quite special, not at all alike most Swedish and Norwegian variants, while the three languages are otherwise very closely related. It’s a bit similar to the traditional dialects in Southern Sweden, but that’s basically an area where people spoke Danish dialects some centuries ago, before they were defeated in the Swedish-Danish war, so that’s not particularly strange when you think about it.
Hakan, very interesting! The development of languages is a fascinating topic. You can tell a lot about a culture just by studying its language. Both as far as the history and lifestyle of the people, as well as their deeper thinking and the way they view the world and themselves in it. 🙂
Isn’t this LEGO lord of the rings? Because they both look identical.
Jay, The Hobbit is the part of the Lord of the Rings saga. It is the story of Bilbo, when he was younger, so it happens before the Lord of the Rings begins. 😉
