LEGO Legends of Chima first trailer!

I’m so used to posting Ninjago episodes on Thursdays I don’t know what to do with myself. LOL! Anyhow, at the end of the last episode of Ninjago, Cartoon Network showed the first trailer of LEGO Legends of Chima – I thought to share that with you guys here so we can all discuss it instead of lamenting about the end of Ninjago. One legend is over and a new one begins… behold the Legends of Chima! 😛

Below is the trailer for LEGO Legends of Chima. Not very long, but it still gives us some hints and clues about the overall story and characters. (You can read more about the LEGO Legends of Chima story-line here: LEGO Legends of Chima Sets Pictures!)

I’m very hopeful for Legends of Chima. First of all it is created by the same team that was working on Ninjago. That could only mean good things. I know a lot of Ninjago fans are upset that the Ninjago saga is over, but I would suggest giving Chima a chance. In some ways it is a continuation of Ninjago as the same team created it, and it also gives us a fresh story. Also, it is likely that it will be even better as the designers learned a lot from the Ninjago experience, having a chance to perfect their skills. 😀

We have already discussed the first wave of LEGO Legends of Chima sets (see: LEGO Legends of Chima: The Story Revealed), and I have also heard rumors that larger sets are also coming later in 2013. Things like a lion-castle (maybe something like what you see on the first picture?) and an eagle-fort. That would be awesome! And how about a crocodile-lair as shown in the trailer? Wouldn’t that be awesome? 🙄

I really like the nature-fantasy blend of Legends of Chima. It also carries over the idea of both flying and ground vehicles from Ninjago.

Legends of Chima will also have large versions of at least some of the characters also called constraction figures (Construction + Action = Constraction – a term used by LEGO for large action figures) as the animals seems to be able to transform to a huge form when they use the power of chi.

There is also going to be a LEGO Legends of Chima game called Speedorz, based on interesting animal-shaped bikes powered by ripcords and given various challenges. (You can see all the Speedorz game-sets here: LEGO Legends of Chima Sets Pictures!)

So what do you think? How do you like LEGO Legends of Chima after seeing the trailer? I would love to hear your thoughts, especially if you are a Ninjago fan! Also, have you noticed other interesting of hidden details that may give us more clues about the story and the character? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss below! 😉

This theme looks like it will have a lot of new interesting parts… I gotta at least get one minifig of each tribe… and if it comes true.. that Lion Castle… I give Legends of Chima my seal of approval.

    • admin November 29, 2012, 11:22 AM

Micho, yeah, I’m also looking forward to the minifigs. One thing I like is that most of them are available in small sets. So it should be easy to collect them. And a Lion Castle would be awesome! I hope it is true! 😀

Also, I’m sure you heard by now, Lord of the Rings is going to get a second wave of sets. A lot of fans are hoping for something big and breathtaking. I think it is quite possible. And of course there are the Castle sets next summer. So Castle fans have a lot to look forward to next year. 😉

      • Micho November 29, 2012, 1:14 PM

what? wait??? “Castle sets next summer”??? Say wha wha whaaaaat??? Please more info on this, please!!! Brain can’t process… LOL

        • Micho November 29, 2012, 1:22 PM

Oh this cannot be good for my wallet. If what you say is true (Castle sets for 2013 summer) my Brickset wishlist is getting waaaaay out of hand for 2013. Hopefully some of my wanted Super Heroes sets will be marked down to 50% after Xmas. Gee whiz. My wish list for 2013 is most of the 2012 Ninjago, all TNMT, all Lone Ranger, and two LOTR sets with big trees and teh warewolf attack from MF (I’m working on a forest for my band of Forest Men). I hope my LEGO sales do REALLYYYY good next month… it’s my only hope.

          • admin November 29, 2012, 1:51 PM

LOL! Yeah, I know what you mean. LEGO is really tempting us with a lot in the past few years. And there is more to come. So hold on to your wallet tightly, and maybe re-read Brickdiction? 😉

Seriously, I highly recommend having a plan and sticking with it. For example I stay away from Star Wars because although I love the movies and the LEGO sets, I simply don’t have the money or the room to display them. I usually stick with sets that are in the castle/fantasy theme, and only spend money I make in my BrickLink store. So far this kept me out of trouble. 🙄

            • Micho November 29, 2012, 3:36 PM

whew!!! IDK if I can stick to money off my ebay sales since I had 3 months where nothing sold late in the summer, but that is a strategy I may have to stick to. Also NEVER buying at retail would help I guess. I seriously think I will take out the 2013 Ninjago sets form my list. So the new strategy is:
-Get the Superheroes sets at 30% to 50% discount after Xmas.
-Get the new Castle and TMNT sets when they are available and on sale at least 25% off.
-Wait until Lone Ranger goes on Clearance and buy all sets, except for the cavalry builder since those battle packs sell out b4 they are Clarenced.
-Buy any 2012 Ninjago Sets discounted at 30% to 50% off to sell during 2013, since they sell so well.

That should control my Brickdiction a tad.

              • admin November 29, 2012, 8:16 PM

Summer is historically the slowest for LEGO sales. Then it starts to pick up again in October and it is good until February. March/April/May are so-so, and things start to slow down again June/July/August/September. Look for deep sales on Ninjago right after Christmas. I will also report on them as I see them. 😉

            • gid617 November 29, 2012, 5:43 PM

Yeah, I have so much on my list I think I’m going to have to ignore it until I have to decide! Between Hobbit, Lone Ranger, LotR, Ninjago (which is at the top of my list!), Chima, Minifigures, that new castle theme, and a few other random sets… I think I might have some trouble… 😀

            • VIE November 30, 2012, 9:23 AM

wow , I guess I will have to start selling my original Star Wars from 1977 to pay for my Lego’s. My SS only goes so far.

        • admin November 29, 2012, 1:43 PM

Hold your horses, Golden Knight, otherwise you may fall off and soil your shining armor. 😉

Very little is known yet. Appearently they are going to be re-releases/re-designs of old LEGO Castle sets. There are going to be five sets in the series. The set numbers are already listed on Brickset: http://brickset.com/browse/years/?year=2013&Theme=Castle

          • Micho November 29, 2012, 3:28 PM

Well, I sure hope it’s only 5 for 2012, and redesigns would be GREAT!!! These have now moved up to spot 1 on my need to buy list for next year, and 5 sets is definitely most doable.

  • gid617 November 29, 2012, 11:21 AM

Apparently the eagle castle isn’t really much to write home about… it seems this is it:
    http://www.exoforce.ru/image/cache/products/70011.1.big-700×525.jpg

Anyway, I really don’t mind Ninjago ending and Chima starting, I’m really not all that interested in the show – I don’t really see how LEGO will be able to make the characters relate to real life, which was a big part (IMO) of Ninjago’s appeal, but maybe they can find out a way!

As far as sets go, the lions – give and take, I like Laval especially, but Leonidas… he just looks really silly. I don’t particularaly like the wolves (though my brother loves them), only the blue eagle appeals to me that much, though Eris isn’t too bad, I like the head croc (crominius), but the rest look… weird. But the ravens! They’re fantastic, I want every raven I can get my hands on! Never was much a fan of contraction type figures, as I find the pieces difficult to use in my style of MOCs – though I don’t have that many contraction pieces to use! I really wish the speedorz vehicles had a least a slightly more color-coordinated wheel system, but I must say almost all the “character cards” are awesome! Plus, in general, there’s a good bit of foilage in the sets, and I’m always needing more of that!

I would say where this really improves on Ninjago is the game. I’m already seeing the spinners as a bit old-fashoned compared to the speedorz vehicles! Storyline doesn’t seem quite as good as Ninjago, but the sets are about the same interms of awesomeness (to me!).

    • admin November 29, 2012, 11:31 AM

Gen, that looks more like a Speedorz starter set, rather than a real Lion Castle. My understanding is that Chima is going to be like Ninjago; there will be “real sets” and “game sets”.

Personally I’m very much looking forward to the show. I think it is going to be great! Although you do make a very valid point; one of Ninjago’s main appeal is that the characters are “real people” – kids who are going thru ninja training. What kid would not like that? But in Chima all of the characters are animals. LEGO would have to do a really-really-really good job so that fans can identify with them and have a feeling for them. We shall see… 🙄

      • gid617 November 29, 2012, 12:29 PM

Yeah, I know that’s not the lion castle, I meant that it’s the eagle thing (you called it fort) you mentioned… 😉 At least, that’s what it gave me the impression you were talking about. 😀 Also, this is the first time I heard that there would be an lion castle, sounds like it could be interesting, especially if it looks like the castle in the trailer!

        • admin November 29, 2012, 1:35 PM

I just called it fort because it sounded better. Eagles have to have forts or keeps, or something like that. Not castles. Castles are for lions. 🙄

  • Gabriel November 29, 2012, 11:24 AM

Did you say constraction sets!? Legends of Chima has now officially caught my attention. Can’t wait to see what they look like! I love the Hero Factory Breakout series, and the DC/Marvel constractions were top-notch. I’m excited to see what new parts Chima will bring to the mix!

    • admin November 29, 2012, 11:32 AM

Gabriel, yes, that is my understanding. It could be really exciting; giant half animal/half people creatures. The fantasy fan in me is very excited too. 🙂

  • 12dw1 November 29, 2012, 11:33 AM

im excited about chima but ninjago felt as if it ended too abruptly and looking at the chima sets there will be some great new sets and pieces but I recently bought kais fire blade cycle and that has loads of great pieces to it. while chima may bring us the cool looking vehichles I don’t think it can replace the quality of the way they built ninjago

  • Melbuscus November 29, 2012, 11:37 AM

Screw Lego china! BRING BACK NINJAGO!!!!!!

    • Gabriel November 29, 2012, 11:47 AM

Sounds like Bionicle all over again… Y’know, LEGO needs to stop making such excellent themes because they just make people mad. I wish LEGO were more mediocre 😉

Yeah, it’s sad to see Ninjago go, but nobody is forced to buy the new Chima sets, and we all have plenty of friends that we can still play and discuss Ninjago and with. It’s not dead: it lives in you!

      • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) November 29, 2012, 12:56 PM

I kind of agree with Mulbuscus. (Not the language though). But they should keep making Lego Ninjago series. I still have hope Ninjago will continue, even if it takes two years to return!!!

      • admin November 29, 2012, 1:33 PM

Gabriel, thanks for putting that so well! One sad thing about a lot of today’s kids is that everything is just handed to them fully formed. Therefore they never fully develop their own imagination. As you said; Ninjago lives as long as we want it to live – there is absolutely no reason why each of us can’t develop the story, the games and the sets further. My old Black Falcons are still very much alive and well. I actually bought them much after they were discontinued – so the theme was alread “dead”, but I liked them and brought them to life. It can be just the same with Ninjago. 🙂

  • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) November 29, 2012, 12:54 PM

Alright, I`ll probably watch the episodes (unless they’re super boring) but I still would rather have Ninjago back. I`m not too eager on their characters either. Maybe the only thing that really kinda holds my interest is the chi thing.

  • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) November 29, 2012, 12:57 PM

Hey we can have our own Take Back Ninjago Rally!!! 😆

  • Jacob November 29, 2012, 1:07 PM

I hadn’t heard about the Ultra-build/ Constraction sets for Chima. Is there a source for this? I think they should be interesting.

    • admin November 29, 2012, 1:39 PM

Jacob, I read about the constraction sets sometime this past weekend. But for the life of me I can’t remember where. I read so much stuff, plus I was just coming home from a week long trip out to California and my head was all fuzzy after an overnight trip. If I find it again I will link it here. As I remember the information was not rock solid, but it was also more then just speculation.

  • Kixle November 29, 2012, 1:25 PM

is it just me, or does the big croc vehicle look like it was made from the peaces of one of the skeleton vehicles?

    • Stone Warrior November 29, 2012, 7:44 PM

      i agree with you

  • Micho November 29, 2012, 1:26 PM

The Lion’s hair looks like Lionel from Thundercats… MOCs anyone????

  • JediToa November 29, 2012, 4:43 PM

Does anyone know when the first episode is going to air in the U.S.?

    • admin November 29, 2012, 8:10 PM

According to Cartoon Network it is going to be in January. One of the kids said he saw it supposed to be the 20th (of January).

  • ninjasamuraiguy November 29, 2012, 4:55 PM

Okay, here are the characters we currently know of:
    Lions: Lennox Leonidas Laval Longtooth
Eagles: Equila Eris Eglor TBA Eagle TBA Eagle Queen
Wolves: Wakz Winzar Wilhurt TBA Wolf
    Ravens: Razcal Razar Rizzo Rawzom
Crocs: Crug Crominus Crawley Cragger Crooler

    Tell me your favorites!

    • gid617 November 29, 2012, 5:45 PM

Rawzom. Actually, all the ravens are awesome!

    • admin November 29, 2012, 8:07 PM

Oh, this is the first time I noticed that the names start with the same letter as the type of animal they are. LOL! This will make it a lot easier to remember them! LEGO is really giving us a challenge by having to memorize all these names! A lot harder than Ninjago! 😕

      • ninjasamuraiguy November 29, 2012, 9:22 PM

Well, Bionicle was also kind of hard to remember.
Also, I think (maybe I’m wrong) that these are the leaders for each faction:
        Laval
        Crominus
        Eagle Queen (obviously)
        Razar
        Winzar
Update TBA Eagle’s name is Ewar

        • gid617 November 30, 2012, 5:45 AM

Razom is the Raven leader, most likely – he has a gold crown, plus other gold highlights!

          • ninjasamuraiguy November 30, 2012, 4:25 PM

            Oh… Thanks!

                • admin November 30, 2012, 6:20 PM

TBA referes to “To Be Announced”. In otherwords the name is not yet known. 😉

  • Gosh LEGO, you seriusly want to rob me. 5 AWESOME Castle sets, City mining sets and Police Station, good ‘ol Lone Ranger sets, AND, WAIT, NEW LOTR SETS!?!? We could have Treebeard, That Gondor city I don’t remember how to spell, Orc camp with Merry and Pippin, the scene were Borimir tries to attack Frodo, Mount Doom, The Mirror Of Galadriel, Rivendell,- there’s just too many ideas! LEGO, it’s just, too painful.

        • 2x4 Brick December 3, 2012, 8:15 PM

          thats kinda weird… 🙄

  • 2x4 Brick December 3, 2012, 8:18 PM

hey in october did anyone see the post on LEGO.com about ‘do you believe in monsters?’ personally, i find it dumb, someone said: ‘one time i found out the mcdonalds has evil powers’ i mean there are supposed to be monsters hidden in mcdonalds? “if there were monsters i wouldnt be able to sleep at night id always be looking for someone to blame” Tristan Mcclain from the Heroes of Olympus series

    • 2x4 Brick December 3, 2012, 8:19 PM

i dont believe in monsters

    • Meloetta December 6, 2012, 3:51 AM

“Imaginary” is in the Definition of “monster.” Therefore anyone who believes in monsters is, by definition, incorrect. 😐
If there is any such thing as would be classified as “monster” exists, it would not be a monster by definition and would need to be described by a different word. 😉

      • 2x4 Brick December 6, 2012, 7:39 PM

You have an ingenious point there, and that said, I do think we can all conclude monsters are, indeed, fake. Of course then we come to realize that, in fact, anything could be put under the list as “monstrous” depending on how you look at thing. Say, if you were a mouse would you think a cat is “monstrous?” I think you would indeed  Of course that leads us to the fact that we, ourselves, could be thought of as “monstrosities” in a way. 🙄

        • Meloetta December 7, 2012, 5:02 PM

Something does not have to be a monster to be “monstrous” or a “monstrosity.” 🙄 They are opinion words, like “gross.”

          • 2x4 Brick December 10, 2012, 6:48 PM

 dont u just love weird conversations. the other day i was talking with my friends about stripes and how on candy canes you lick them to reveal they are red on white. So if you lick a zebra what will happen? :rool:

  • Zubashi December 5, 2012, 3:01 PM

    New video showing Laval: http://chima.lego.com/en-us/teaser/

    • I just saw that before i saw the link. Really ironic that i see it, come on here and THEN see the link. Oh, and btw i just noticed that there even was a Chima section. I can be very oblivious. 😆
      😀

  • For some reason, i just can’t imagine myself becomeing obsessed with this show. I am hoping i will, but so far it hasn’t really caught my attention, other than the fact it is what is replacing Ninjago. 🙁
I am definitly watching it when it comes out, though! (why wouldn’t I? It isn’t chima’s fault that Ninjago is ending)
    😀

    • 2x4 Brick December 6, 2012, 7:42 PM

That is very true, although it is still saddening that Ninjago is ending seeing well it sold with the fans of TBB

( Mr. Green  is my new favorite smiley face! )

  • ninjasamuraiguy December 8, 2012, 4:48 PM

Ummmmmmm… anyone have pictures of the speedorz cards?

    • admin December 9, 2012, 11:06 AM

Not yet, but it is likely going to be similar to the artwork on the upcoming books. I should write a post about this, or Geneva, do you wan’t to do it? 😉

      • ninjasamuraiguy December 11, 2012, 7:13 PM

Wait a sec……. UPCOMING BOOKS?! Oh, man this is gonna be awesome!!!!!

        • admin December 11, 2012, 8:01 PM

Yeah, it is going to be a very involved theme with everything included; games, online games, tournament, books, a TV show, and of course the sets. I will write about it for Thursday. 😉

  • ninjasamuraiguy December 9, 2012, 12:41 PM

Awesome! From the Speedorz set previews, they look really cool!

  • I noticed people aren’t commenting as much (if at all) for the past week on both the Ninjago section and the Chima section (not sure about the others though). I’m guessing it is because of 2 reasons, the main one being that (of corse!) it’s the Holidays! and 2 being that Ninjago is over and Chima hasn’t begun so there isn’t really much to talk ABOUT. 😐
    😀

    • admin December 10, 2012, 9:35 AM

Yes, I would think that once the Chima episodes start we will have more discussions again. Traffic has been growing every week, so TBB in general is visited by more people then ever. But they are more spread out.

Also, there are interesting trends, like even though Saturday and Sunday are consistently the busiest days as far a straffic, those days also get the least comments. I guess it means that the regulars spending more time on the site during the week, and do other acitivites during the weekend, while the “silent crowd” visit the weekend. It is actually pretty interesting to watch the charts. 😉

I’m thinking I will continue posting something about Ninjago or Chima on Thursdays, to keep the tradition of having something on that day for Ninjago fans (since likely a lot of them will move on to Chima anyway).

      • 2x4 Brick December 10, 2012, 6:50 PM

Good, I like the Thursday schedule! 😀

        • Yeah, because nothing exciting ever happens on thursday! (except Ninjago being posted, and now Chima, i guess.)
          😀

          • 2x4 Brick December 11, 2012, 6:23 PM

I ALWAYS have the least amount of school on Thursday AND I don’t have ANYTHING going on on Thursday! It makes it a long wait for the episode… 🙄

  • ninjasamuraiguy December 11, 2012, 5:21 PM

GUYS! THEY WILL MAKE A GORILLA FACTION IN THE SUMMER 2013 WAVE! ONE OF THEM IS GORZAN (SOUNDS LIKE TARZAN).

PS Admin, what’s your favorite faction?

  • ninjasamuraiguy December 11, 2012, 5:27 PM

By the way, there will be action figures of LAVAL, ERIS, GORZAN (good or bad?), CRAGGER, RAZAR and WORRIZ.

    • Zubashi December 12, 2012, 12:23 PM

      YES!

      • Zubashi December 12, 2012, 4:15 PM

    • Zubashi December 12, 2012, 12:31 PM

Just testing my Gravatar. Also, some information from Brickset: This is the claim made by the LEGO senior brand manager in the UK in an article in this month’s Toy News magazine.

The article goes on to say that LEGO expects Chima sales to be 30% more than Ninjago’s was in 2012, although “Ninjago still remains one of the most successful and popular IPs to date for us [which we] fully expect to continue next year.”

The Chima line is said to “include construction play-sets, social game Speedorz, six Hero-Factory style buildable figures and board games, with the latter two arriving in August”.

LEGO UK will apparently be embarking on a nine month roadshow known as the ‘Chima Challenge’ which will include Speedorz contests with national league tables, pop-up cinemas showing the cartoon and chances for kids to meet Chima characters.

The article also sheds some light on the back-story: “a conflict between six tribes — three good (Lions, Eagles and Gorillas) and three bad (Crocodiles, Ravens and Wolves).”

All in all, it sounds like they are very excited and are going overboard both in terms of the number of products and on promoting it. It looks as if anyone wanting to be ‘Chima complete’ will need very deep pockets, I believe there are around 36 Chima products due in 2013 alone.

      • admin December 12, 2012, 6:11 PM

Zubashi, your gravatar is great! I will be publishing a post tomorrow about Chima, so maybe you can share your thoughts and insights there and we can continue this discussion. Chima sounds interesting so far! 😀

        • ninjasamuraiguy December 12, 2012, 8:08 PM

Is anyone going to monitor the LEGO site to see if anything new pops up? I’ve been waiting for a while for a Raven Faction wallpaper download.

          • admin December 13, 2012, 9:39 AM

I do check the site regularly for new images. I’m thinking of writing a post about them too as they do reveal some interesting details. 🙂

  • ninjasamuraiguy December 12, 2012, 5:12 PM

    Whoa…. maybe that’s a little too much?

  • ninjasamuraiguy December 12, 2012, 5:19 PM

I can’t wait to get Speedorz Fire Ring and, later, the Razar action figure.

  • Chi Crow December 21, 2012, 6:19 PM

  • Dan December 23, 2012, 10:06 AM

The lion swords have a lion face on them! Same with the crocodile blades. You have to look very closely to see them!

  • legomaster124 January 3, 2013, 4:11 AM

Oh My God!!!! Lego Chima looks so awesome! But, i’m still kinda disappointed that ninjago ended. I mean, why didn’t they keep on making ninjago episodes and make the chima episodes?

    • Wolfgirl January 12, 2013, 7:10 PM

      Ninjago will continue! 😐

      • hades ninja of darkness March 17, 2013, 8:41 PM

    ninjago will continue in 2014

  • Ben B April 17, 2013, 3:18 PM

I saw the first episode of Chima and thought I’d give it a shot. And guess what? It was stupider than I thought it would be. I almost fell asleep in the middle of it! They’re trying to make it funny but it’s dumb! Just as dumb as lego teenage mutant ninja turtles. I demand that you bring lego ninjago back or I won’t buy legos anymore! Lego Ninjago forever! It was my second favorite show!

  • Ben B April 17, 2013, 3:20 PM

And why can’t you guys have Lego Ninjago and Lego Chima at the same time, like beyblade is doing the beywheels and beyblade metal masters at the same time… I mean come on!

  • Ben B April 17, 2013, 3:21 PM

Why can’t you just have them both at the same time? I need to see more episodes!

  • Ben B April 17, 2013, 3:22 PM

My favorite show was canceled too. But it had like 6 or 7 seasons. So I don’t care. But Lego Ninjago had only like 26 or 27 episodes. Dear Lego Company, BRING NINJAGO BACK!

  • Pink Ninja April 17, 2013, 3:24 PM

Even my little brother hates Lego Chima! Lego Ninjago rules! So bring it back! If you can’t think of more ideas…. maybe I should work for you. I’ve got tons. I even write my own stories!

    • admin April 17, 2013, 5:53 PM

Pink Ninja, thanks for sharing. Just want to make sure that you are aware that this is a LEGO fan-site. We are all friends here, not LEGO employees. We don’t work for LEGO. 😉

  • Alicia the pink ninja April 17, 2013, 3:26 PM

If you have no more ideas for Lego ninjago then I could give you some. I have a lot of ideas for it. I write Lego Ninjago stories for myself.
