Another company has done a Lego-like version of doctor who already. Plus doctor who sucks already

  • darkon April 14, 2013, 3:09 PM

Alright! Finally a new article about the new Star Wars summer sets! These look like some of the best Star Wars sets that Lego has made in quite a while. I love that Darth Maul and Jango Fett both come in small sets! I’m upset about the price of the Sail Barge. Lego had originally said it would only be $99.99. 🙁 I hate it when they change prices like that.

  • JediToa April 14, 2013, 4:28 PM

A stass Alie minifig how about that!

  • Lego king April 14, 2013, 5:15 PM

I wish more clones were included in the gunship and AT-TE 🙁

  • legostuff71 April 14, 2013, 5:16 PM

  • ninjanut April 14, 2013, 5:27 PM

  • The Dark Jedi April 14, 2013, 5:39 PM

The sets with Darth Maul and Jango Fett are as good as MINE!!!!!!

    • lego trooper 91 April 14, 2013, 8:49 PM

hmm i though t that dark jedi were sith (in some ways) i meen they can use the force etc (jedi + dark equals sith)

      • The Dark Jedi May 13, 2013, 11:31 PM

Kind of, but not exactly. I think I read that they were just Jedi who betrayed the Order, but did not become a Sith. Basically rogue Jedi.

  • lego trooper 91 April 14, 2013, 8:21 PM

i rrreeelllyyy like the republic attack gun ship!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

  • lego trooper 91 April 14, 2013, 8:38 PM

did any one no that lego meens play well (in some kind of language) 🙂

    • admin April 14, 2013, 10:06 PM

      Yes, it’s in Danish. 😉

      • Håkan April 15, 2013, 6:59 AM

An abbreviation of “leg godt”. It should apparently mean “I build” in Greek or Latin, as well, but someone said it was quite a strained interpretation.

        • admin April 15, 2013, 10:22 AM

Hakan, I think I read that somewhere too. But it doesn’t really matter. It was an inspiration, and inspiration works in mysterious ways… and it doesn’t care for language rules and spelling. 😉

    • Lego 330 June 6, 2013, 3:00 PM

In Danish, Lego (leg godt) means “play well”.

  • Strider April 14, 2013, 8:47 PM

Wow, I am not a huge fan of Lego Starwars, (I have only gotten Anakins Jedi Starfighter and the Rebel Scout Speeder) but it looks like Lego has done a great job designing and redesigning these sets. And there are a lot of them too 🙂 The only draw back is that some of my favorites, (Jabbas Sail Barge, Big Clone Walker Thing) are overpriced because of the arge pieces. While technically this is fair, (same amount of plastic,) to someone who loves putting detail into things as much as I do the small pieces are just as important 😉 And the minifigures definetly do not disapoint rather the lack of them in some sets. In conclusion Lego has done a good job bringing us a bunch of well designed sets, (with a few iffy prices,) but they still our not really my thing. Absolutely no offence to SW fans. I guess I should wander back to the Hobbit section where I belong 🙂

  • NRGkai April 14, 2013, 8:56 PM

so cool i love the Corporate Alliance Tank and the gunship

  • The Yellow Ninja April 15, 2013, 9:56 AM

Well I’m glad that LEGO is finally making new episode 2 sets. (I don’t know why, but my family always calls the star wars movies episodes 😛 )

  • Fikko3107 April 15, 2013, 10:06 AM

Looking good. I’ll talk about the sets individually now…

I would be going for the corporate alliance tank, since I just love Jango Fett, and I know how much his previous variant was sought after.

The gunship is kinda meh, considering we already have like, what? 3 of the same model before this? But the minifigures really sweeten the set.

Darth Maul had been one of my favorite Siths, and despite not following the Clone Wars series, I know enough that his legs were like that because he became a cyborg after his defeat…And that black lightsaber is the one he took after defeating Pre Visla, right? And the vehicle isn’t so bad, but I’m sure some of you must be head-over-heels for those precious Death Watch Mandalorians! Go Mandalorians!

Jabba’s sail barge seems like an improvement from the last. The recent Episode VI sets have really been complimenting each other, haven’t they? But if you have them all, you’ll end up with two Jabbas…And I like the fact they included Ree-Yees, who was a character I personally never spotted in the films. Max Rebo was a nice touch; He was certainly one of the aliens in the palace that stood out. Any chances we’ll get the rest of the Max Rebo gang? Like maybe Sly Snootles? R2-D2’s waiter version is slightly disappointing. It’s almost identical to the previous version. I surely don’t remember a p 2×4 plate wedged between Artoo’s head and torso in the movies… Anyways, I was rather pleased with how Leia turned out. If you’ve been paying attention to the message boards, you will know about countless controversies regarding some inappropriate minifigures (Oola, for instance.) Notice that this Leia variant has absolutely no printed cleavage!

The Duel on Geonosis looks great. I think it’s most likely I’ll aim for that one. Some people thinks Yoda is overly detailed, but I disagree. And Poggle the lesser looks promising!

Jek-14’s starfighter is pretty great. But the transparent arm is a highlight. A true milestone!

At least for me, the AT-TE and Spider droid is the weakest of the line. They’ve been done numerous times before and although there are exclusive minifigs, they don’t really interest me…

The 2 sets that are still picture less, I cannot comment yet, but they look promising. Cad Bane, and an Obi-Wan with bounty hunter disguise!

P.S: I’m not a big star wars fan, and I hate being a stickler, but I’m pretty sure the minifigure in the Sail barge is spelled “Weequay” not “Weekuay”.

    • admin April 15, 2013, 10:24 AM

Fikko, yeah, I’m also really excited about the translucent arm! I really hope that the price of the minifigs will not be too high on Bricklink because I’m gonna need a bunch of those guys. Thanks for catching the Weequay tipo. I just corrected it. 😉

  • Jay-MOUTH OF LIGTHNING April 15, 2013, 11:13 AM

Just to let everyone know, the Obi wan is the str-hopper set will be in dissguise not his regular self. And these sets are super awesome!

  • darkon April 15, 2013, 4:21 PM

The Republic Gunship set is pointless if you already have the 2008 version. The figures are very basic as well. The AT-TE is very nice if you want Mace Windu though. 🙂

    • Lego King April 15, 2013, 5:04 PM

The gunship is an improvement though. It gives kids who werent old enough to get the 2008 gunship to get one.

  • Legolander April 15, 2013, 7:05 PM

It would be cool if Lego made some EU sets besides the Old Republic ones.

    • Fikko3107 April 17, 2013, 8:31 AM

Honestly, I’m hoping for some more sets from “The Force Unleashed” containing Kadzan Paratus or something. And of course, Star Tours!

  • Purple ninja of power (Lloyd's admirer) April 17, 2013, 4:18 PM

    Wow that looks so cool

  • darkon April 17, 2013, 4:25 PM

Sorry, but I just don’t relate to the whole “kids that were too young for these sets the first time they came out thing”. It’s probably because I’ve been building the big $100-size sets since I was 4. My first lego set was that giant dinosaur compound from the 2000 Johnny Thunder Theme. I guess I’ve just always been great at building stuff. 😀

    • admin April 17, 2013, 5:57 PM

Darkon, you are just a natural. It’s interesting that some kids just appear to have been born with LEGO skills. They never even play with DUPLO, they go straight to LEGO, and even the advanced sets – like you did. And some kids can’t relate to LEGO at all and don’t have the building skills to put together even the simplest sets. The good thing is that there is a LEGO set for everyone’s capabilities and interests. 😉

    • legofiend May 20, 2013, 8:44 PM

I know that I was building the big sets when I was little too, but I didn’t get a chance to get the 2008 versions of the gunship or the at-te. The reason wasn’t because I was too young, I asked for the sets for Christmas that year and my mom told me that she looked everywhere to buy them but they were both sold out. And after that Christmas the sets were discontinued. I have been waiting for them to remake those sets ever since, and they will be the first ones I purchase. Obviously the tank droid and the mandalorian speeder will be next.

  • Frenchfry April 17, 2013, 8:36 PM

Anybody know how much the starhopper set is going for, and how many pieces it has? And i’m also surprised they chose to use Maul’s cybernetic legs in the Mando speeder than his shorter legs he received from Vizsla. In The Lawless he had his new legs not his Cybernetic ones. But it’s cool to get a minifigure with his cyber legs. But I think they could have made a Revival set and put those legs in that set or something. I also think them making Hondo’s ship would be cool as well!!

    • admin April 18, 2013, 9:28 AM

Frenchfry, details of the Starhopper are not yet known. Only thing available is the blurry image included in the post. I’m sure we will get more info as we get closer to the release date. 🙂

  • LegoKing April 17, 2013, 8:43 PM

How much is the Starhopper set, and how many pieces does it have? Thanks.

  • LegoKing April 17, 2013, 8:44 PM

That’s ironic i guess the guy already asked that above, sorry.

  • Jedi master Lego May 1, 2013, 11:22 PM

Where is the Jedi defender-class cruiser

    • admin May 2, 2013, 9:50 AM

As far as I know that is a fall set and as I mentioned in the article there are no images as of yet.

  • Meneldur son of Garamar May 5, 2013, 7:19 PM

I am impressed with these sets. I do like Jabba’s sail barge however the price is terrible as if Jabba’s palace wasn’t bad enough! I am going to get all but the sail barge for Christmas. A couple years ago I started expanding my Star Wars galaxy until the Lord of the Rings sets came out. I sort of stalled out on the Star Wars collecting but I plan to make a comeback this year now that I have all the first wave of LOTR. I have around 500 minifigs and thousands of accessories and a good deal of my minifigs are Star Wars characters. I am, unfortunately missing C3-PO which makes me mad since I have basically everybody else! Why Lego chose to price Jabba’s sail barge at a hefty $119.99 I can’t say. I do have some speculations though. One thing’s for sure though: Jabba can no longer be called rare!

    • admin May 5, 2013, 7:30 PM

Meneldur, sounds like you have an impressive collection! As far Jabba’s Palace, I’m sure the price will come down by the end of the year, so if you can hold off until then it is totally worth it. I think it is a very nice set. Rare to have a real building in the Star Wars series, and it also has some very useful tan and dark-tan pieces.

  • Meneldur son of Garamar May 6, 2013, 7:30 PM

I’m guessing that Jek-14 is the first minifig to have a translucent arm. And I also assume that Jek-14’s ship is exclusive to the Yoda Chronicles, since it never showed up in the movies.

    • Brother Cool May 9, 2013, 11:49 AM

It’s a black colored E-wing from the “Dark Empire” comics.

  • 007 May 30, 2013, 2:05 PM

I can’t wait for these amazing sets to come in to stores

    • admin May 30, 2013, 3:19 PM

I’m glad you like the new sets, but I would ask to please watch your language. This is a family-friendly site. I have edited your comment. Thanks for your cooperation.

  • Clone Captain 73683 June 9, 2013, 11:50 AM

Can you give us a possible date when these sets will come available in USA store

    • admin June 9, 2013, 1:14 PM

Clone Captain, release dates vary widely. There is the official release date by LEGO, which is when a new set is available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop. However retailers often carry the same sets almost a month ahead of time. Especially Toys’R’Us. So even though the official release date for these sets is sometime in August, you will likely see them much earlier at local retailers. 😉

  • General grievous June 18, 2013, 6:14 PM

I think that even though these sets are mostly repeats, which for the most part I have, it’s astonishing to notice that designers are still improving the quality and design. For example, the new homing spider droid has three eyes instead of one…I’ve been a builder for a long time now and I keep noticing how the quality of the new minifigures are going up but the quantity of figures is decreasing. That’s a big problem for people who are getting the new sets because you end up with a vehicle that you don’t have enough people to man. In doing this, you need to buy more battle packs with the clones vs droidekas which isn’t even an army builder! That is my only issue right now….if lego came out with another set of battle packs this winter then I would be happy. All they need is one clone battle pack with four regular clones and a droid pack with just geonosis battle droids. I’ve been waiting a while for them to come out with new versions of the geonosis battle droids and then lego adds more super battle droids instead! Anyways I can’t wait for this new line of sets to come out because I’m buying all of the clone wars sets(shout out to all the clone wars fans out there!). I also give lego props for making the clone captain, commander, sergeant, pilot(even though there is supposed to be no fin on the helmet) and lieutenant even though it hasn’t been released in stores:(

    • Andy :) June 26, 2013, 3:28 PM

I’m getting the lieutenant on ebay soon!!!He is so cool!!!I agree on the mini fig part:(.I was especially disappointed with the new design of the Phase 2 clone. The phase one trooper is a big improvement though!!Also they should make more CLONE ONLY battle packs! They should also make more Phase 2 clone battle packs. The last one LEGO made was in 2007 and that was the only one they ever made!!!!

  • General grievous June 27, 2013, 4:58 PM

Ya I’m also getting the lieutenant! I regret not getting more clone battle packs in 2007 as it was by far a great set. I agree that the new phase two clones aren’t the best but I’m almost certain it’s because they were based on the Star Wars the clone wars tv series….therefore making them less accurate. All lego needs to do in my opinion is to keep the 2007 mold for the phase two clones and fill in the space where the visor is so that we can get a clone trooper face instead of the black head piece. I just can’t wait for the new sets to be released in stores… I think that the products aren’t released in the official lego store until August but some major retailers(toysrus/wal mart) are selling the new line earlier!

  • General grievous July 13, 2013, 1:38 PM

Does anyone know when toys r us is releasing these sets in Canada? Oh and did anyone notice that there is no customizable stickers on the gunship:( even though I seriously hate stickers! I still feel that the gunship should have had them because of their presence during the clone wars….on the other side I don’t blame them because the gunships didn’t have the paint on the sides during the battle of geonosis….

    • admin July 13, 2013, 2:06 PM

I’m not familiar with the Canadadian release dates, so I would suggest to call your local LEGO store. They should be able to tell you. 🙂

      • clonecommando July 13, 2013, 4:31 PM

some of them are already out in the U.S they should be out pretty soon in Canada

  • clonecommando July 13, 2013, 4:29 PM

guys these new sets are gonna be awsome. iv’e only been collecting about a year and a half and i want all the geionosis sets. lego star wars is awsome

    • General grievous July 13, 2013, 4:36 PM

I agree! I’m a huge Star Wars the clone wars fan so I’m getting all the geonosis sets as I love to create mocs… Are you getting any of the original trilogy sets? I’m debating on getting the star hopper but its such an ugly ship that I’m not sure.

      • clonecommando July 13, 2013, 10:43 PM

yeah did you see the new hoth set for 2013 its pretty sweet and most of my collection is clone wars

        • General grievous July 14, 2013, 6:38 AM

Well actually I just got the new echo base and I think that it’s awesome! I use it as my mandalorian hideout. And I did see the new hoth set looks pretty good! To be honest I think lego is doing a great job on the new minifigs but we need more clones in the sets especially pilots….for example the gunship only one pilot!!!everyone knows you need two pilots. I don’t even know why they put super battle droids in that set because they should have put more clones. Any issues you see in the new sets?

          • clonecommando July 14, 2013, 11:44 AM

yeah they are doing an excelent job on the minifigs but like you said they do need another clone pilot in the gunship and they should just replace the super battle droids with a clone pilot and a clone trooper and jabbas sail barge looks a little small for the price i mean its the same as the gunship but comes with less pieces and less minifigs and in jek-14s fighter why is the special forces guy blue

            • General grievous July 14, 2013, 5:46 PM

Yeah I agree with the sail barge…from a certain point of view you could say the older sets are better but you can argue both ways(example:the old clone turbo tank had awesome minifigs and contained only printed pieces and the new one was bigger a little but had only two clones). In terms of design you can’t compare because we have more pieces today then we did years ago…and the blue spec force minifig is there because of a new series called the yoda chronicles which was considered an “extended universe” series. In other words…lego created the whole series based on a made up storyline. You wouldn’t see that trooper in episodes 1to 6.
