2014 LEGO sets news & rumors…

by admin on August 16, 2013

in Other News & Updates

Even though we are not even close to the end of the year, news and rumors of 2014 LEGO sets are already surfacing. Some of these have been already confirmed by LEGO, others still need to be verified. However all of them come from trusted sources within the LEGO community (Brickset, Eurobricks), so they are not completely wild speculations. Some details like set-names may change, but in general we can be fairly certain about these 2014 LEGO sets. So let’s see what’s coming. 🙂

2014 LEGO Star Wars Sets

2014 LEGO STAR WARS SETS: According to SolidBrixStudios the following LEGO Star Wars sets are coming in 2014. Please note that the new battle packs are going back to containing only one faction, not both good-guys and bad-guys like in recent packs. Also there is a new LEGO Star Wars Recruitment line, that suppose to be replacing the LEGO Star Wars Planets series with still small versions of the vehicles and ships, but larger than in the Planets series – maybe midi-scale is coming back?

  • Homer at the Control Panel (with Homer, Mr. Berns & Smithers)
  • Lisa’s Sax Performance (with Lisa, Marge, Sherri & Terri)

  • Simpson’s House (with Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie, Grandpa, Flanders & the Dog)

2014 LEGO FRIENDS SETS: I’m sure there will be more than three sets in this theme next year, but these are the only ones known at this point.  I assume they will be scheduled for next summer as they are all beach related.

  • LEGO Friends Mission at the Beach
  • LEGO Friends Beach and Smoothie Bar
  • LEGO Friends Beach House

FREE LEGO Friends Ice Cream set with any LEGO Friends purchase Valid 8.1.13 - 8.31.13 or while supplies last.

2014 LEGO SUPER HEROES SETS: All Batman related sets from the DC Universe, with some really sweet vehicles!

2014 LEGO Super Heroes Sets - #76012 LEGO Batman Set

2014 LEGO COLLECTIBLE MINIFIGURES: According to Eurobricks’ member Klaus-Dieter the Collectable Minifigures Series 12 will consist only of minifigs featured in upcoming The LEGO Movie. The series will still contain 16 minifigures for the usual price. I find this rather surprising as The LEGO Movie minifigs will also be in regular sets and previously the Collectible Series was reserved for unique minifigures.

All right so there is a lot to digest here… what do you think? Are you excited about the 2014 LEGO sets? Which ones are you looking forward the most? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! Also, if you hear about updates you are welcome to post those here as well. 😉

Awesomeness! I’m so excited that LEGO is finally making a Legend Beast for each tribe!

Reply

admin August 16, 2013 at 11:32 AM

Yeah, I’m really curious about the Legend Beasts too. Will they be moulded figures like the Dinos? Or will they be brick built? Or built like Hero Factory figs? 🙄

Reply

CraggerThePrinceOfChima August 16, 2013 at 1:35 PM

At first, I thought the lion Legend Beast was going to be a molded figure and he would come in the Lion Temple set but now I think it will probably be brick built because the set names just include the name Legend beast and LEGO wouldn’t just let you open a box and you have nothing but a molded figure of a lion, croc, eagle, etc.

Good point! I haven’t thought of that!

Reply

Cross August 17, 2013 at 10:29 AM

This does mean, however, that these legend beasts could very well be ultrabuild sets.

Wow, there’s some cool stuff coming out next year!
I already knew of the Simpson, hobbit and the riddler chase sets from the brick show but the others!? 😀
Legend beasts eh. Hmmmm I wonder what they’d be like.
As for Star Wars there seems to be alot of revamps going on.
I didn’t expect any news on other sets till at least next month! We’ve only just got the summer wave!

I’m all in on the Simpson sets. Those should be all kinds of fun for us older fans. I’m also excited about getting a Flash minifigure.

PS the Simpson’s dog is Santa’s Little Helper. 😉

Reply

Yeah, lots of goodies to drool over! Forgot about the name of Simpson’s dog, sorry. Haven’t watched it for a while. 😛

Reply

Håkan August 16, 2013 at 3:52 PM

I think the current dog is Santa’s Little Helper III, since the two first died, or something like that.

Then, the internal continuity of the show seems extremly constrained.

Reply

admin August 17, 2013 at 1:38 PM

Yeah… I know… some people really don’t think it is appropriate for LEGO. But again; we don’t have to buy it. I think it is still better than that silly Spongebob. That must be worst show ever. 🙄

Reply

Meneldur son of Garamar August 17, 2013 at 2:59 PM

Sorry, but I have to agree with Ninja of Stealth. My Dad’s even bummed that LEGO chose that as a theme for 2014. Still, there’s a ton of other cool themes to choose from……especially the Hobbit! 😀

Reply

admin August 17, 2013 at 6:02 PM

Yeah, Hobbits rule! 😛

Reply

Ike August 17, 2013 at 6:20 PM

Yuck… VERY irritated about the simpsons… Lego discontinued fantasy era, because of supposed “scariness” but they confirm the SIMPSONS!?! that is just NOT right!

Reply

Håkan August 17, 2013 at 6:29 PM

Themes get discontinued on a regular basis. Lego released the Monster Fighters theme after the Fantasy Era … The “scariness” excuse sounds just like hearsay.

Reply

Håkan August 18, 2013 at 4:31 AM

Also, this is speculation, but it’s possible Fantasy Era got revamped into a more realistic depiction of the middle ages – (Shortly after it was discontinued, Lego released Medieval Market Village) -possibly because Lego was already in negotiations about the LOTR rights, which would fit well within the niche of sword-fighting fantasy.

Reply

admin August 18, 2013 at 9:32 AM

Yes, that is quite possible. In fact after LOTR was released there were no new Castle sets for quite a while. The reasoning I heard was that LOTR was too close to Castle. I don’t know if the new LEGO Castle line was released in response to fans complaining, or was it in the works already, but it makes sense to keep it as distant from LOTR as possible.

Håkan August 18, 2013 at 2:27 PM

Although technically, it seems that MMV was released ‘during’ the Fantasy Era. Sorry.

Andy August 17, 2013 at 8:41 PM

I LOVE SPONGEBOB!!!!

Reply

admin August 18, 2013 at 9:33 AM

You do?! Maybe you can enlighten me what’s awesome about it. I have tried watching a few episodes when the LEGO sets first came out, but after 3 episodes I just couldnt’ take it any more. 🙁

Reply

Håkan August 18, 2013 at 12:20 PM

I could kinda like it myself. I find the silliness of it all appealing. A lot of the new animated shows seem more based on shock value, and I get tired of it quickly.

Reply

admin August 18, 2013 at 5:35 PM

I know what you mean. I like many of the older shows myself. It is just Spongebob is not appealing to me; the characters, the stories, all that greazy food… I just don’t get it. 😕

Reply

Chi-bacca August 19, 2013 at 6:46 AM

Well it’s fun when your younger i actually have 2 sets of LEGO spongebob but they’re all in pieces and I’ve used the orange from the pineapple house for other stuff like mars mission. All those angled orange plates 😆

Still very disappointing that the DC line is more “Batman and Friends” than DC Universe. Could they make at least ONE set that didn’t have Batman as the focus? If they didn’t make another Batman set for the next decade, but still continued with DC, Batman would still be over represented. I might not be so bothered by it if they would actually make Batgirl, remake Nightwing, or give us villains they haven’t already done (Batzarro, Clay Face, Firefly, Great White Shark, Hugo Strange, Hush, Killer Moth, The Mad Hatter, Mister Toad, Ra’s al Ghul, Scar Face are just a few that are more specific to batman). Man-Bat is new at least, but I assume he is mostly the same as the “man-bat” figures in the Vampire Castle and the CMS.

Likewise, I think LEGO missed a great opportunity to make a set for the Flash. One with Gorilla Grod (possibly his lab) with either some gorilla robots or Ultra-Humanite I think would have been great (though I could see possible conflicts with Chima as it has gorilla minifigs right now). I can give a slight pass to Aquaman being shoehorned into a batman set, as I don’t know if he is really popular enough to stand out on his own, but People have wanted the entire main Justice League since the licence was announced.

Håkan August 16, 2013 at 3:53 PM

Gorillas in comics! Yay!

Reply

Ike August 17, 2013 at 6:26 PM

I agree. I wish they would make Justice league sets with Martian manhunter, beadle, green lantern, hawkman, black panther(actually, he might be marvel, I can’t remember), and some other ignored classics

Håkan August 17, 2013 at 6:30 PM

Jacob August 16, 2013 at 12:41 PM

With that DC rant done-
I think it may be possible the CMS are figure from the movie that will not be in sets, maybe much more minor characters or variants of ones in the sets. I may have misunderstood what was meant, but I got the idea that some of the more recognizable classic minifigs (Captain Redbeard, classic Spaceman, Johnny Thunder, etc.) might be “remade”, and they might be in the series. I am basing this off of a statement from the press release: “Additionally, the company’s line of collectible LEGO Minifigures will receive its first Hollywood makeover with a series inspired by “THE LEGO MOVIE” cast of 16 new and “new-again” LEGO characters.”

I hope Chima continues the excellent minfigure parts, as I already have ideas for things if the parts look like how I image with the new tribes.

A little concerned about the Hobbit sets, as there are not that many. Hopefully they will be making Radagast and the other figures they haven’t yet. I hope the Mirkwood elf army has some non-Legolas headgear for the elves. Legolas hair isn’t bad, but I think it has been used a bit much (though I do hope they eventually make it with yellow ears).

Hoth bricks has (or had, it may be taken down soon) pictures of the Starwars sets. Some I really like, others not so much, but it should be noted those were preliminary images, not final product ones.

Small fractions? typo in talking about the SW battle packs? 😀

Reply

admin August 16, 2013 at 1:57 PM

Well, there used to be only one side, then two, now we are back to one. Which is nice I think. BTW, I found out that the Recruitment sets are going to be chibi-scale, not midi! I love chibis! 😛

Reply

Fikko3107 August 17, 2013 at 4:55 AM

I think by typo, he means it should be Faction, not Fraction. Fraction is a division of something. Faction is a side, during battle.

What do you mean by chibi? Is it like those cute little midi-scale vehicles that are still rideable by minifigures, like the comic-con exclusive Sith-Infiltrator, Landspeeder, Slave I, Jek-14’s starfighter and to some extent Bag-end?

Reply

admin August 17, 2013 at 7:30 AM

Oh, yeah, that was a typo. Silly spell-checker. And yes, chibi is exactly what you described. 😉

CraggerThePrinceOfChima August 16, 2013 at 1:37 PM

The Elf army will probably be a battle pack like it was with the Uruk-Hai Army. It’s probably going to have a couple trees and will be loaded with elf mini-figures!

Hoth bricks has listed the minifigures that come with the SW sets just so you know 🙂

Reply

SuperSpyX August 16, 2013 at 5:15 PM

I saw some prelim images at MintInBox, but they were quickly taken down. The battle packs have NEW ACTUALLY FIRING BLASTERS for the minifigures! There is also a new Kashyyk scout trooper helmet. A new, small spring-loaded shooter is also in several of the regular sets. It is about 1×4 and has a small missile that fits in the end that can launch out. There is an all-new Wookiee warrior and what appears to be Chewbacca with extra tan fur highlights. The Recruitment line is kind of silly, but I guess it is intended for younger audiences. One or two have new printings, but no new parts. Several of the normal sets are upgraded versions of sets from the past few years. Overall a fairly good lineup, some things I am definitely interested in.

Reply

admin August 16, 2013 at 5:18 PM

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting stuff! Yeah, I heard about the spring-loaded missiles! Finally! We needed something better than those flick-fires! Sad to hear that the Recruitment line is not that impressive. I was really looking forward to those as I like chibis. Can’t wait to see/hear more details! 😛

Håkan August 16, 2013 at 8:49 PM

What does chibi mean? I know what it means in manga terminology (characters drawn shorter, chunkier and cartoonier than usual) but not in Lego parlance.

Reply

Jacob August 16, 2013 at 8:59 PM

Pretty much the same thing, smaller and disproportionate in a way to look cute. In this case, the Star Wars vehicles represented are small and disproportionate compared to the standard minifigure scale, but still have room to fit a minifigure on top.

Reply

Håkan August 17, 2013 at 2:09 AM

Aha, sounds a bit like the old 78 minifig sets, where they continued the miniature vehicles, so they were disproportionate to the minifigs themselves.

Since chibi in manga and anime mostly refers to the ‘characters’, I thought this was a reference to the ‘minifigs’, and got confused.

Reply

admin August 17, 2013 at 7:29 AM

In LEGO terms chibi usually refers to the vehicles. So the minifis are still normal scale, but their vehicles would be smaller and cutified. I guess minifigs are cute and chibi already. 😉

I have however seen some brickbuilt minifigs also referred to as chibi, although based on the skill required to build them, they are obviously rare.

Håkan August 17, 2013 at 4:46 AM

In the Star Wars universe, there’s a fairly lengthy discussion here:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Saleucami

(It looks good on a glance, although I mostly skimmed through it, and I’m not that familiar with all Star Wars lore and modern interpretations such as Clone Wars.)

If you’re talking about the set itself, I don’t think there are any leaked images available online yet.

I’m really looking forward to the adittional tribes in the Legends of Chima line, so far they did a great job with the skunks/gorillas. I’m getting a set with lego Scorpions or even Spiders for sure! It seems LEGO is running out of first letters for their tribes’ names…

Beardless Dwarf August 17, 2013 at 1:49 PM

I’m looking forward to the new Hobbit sets but I’m very disappointed in the Simpsons…I have a really hard time believing that there are THAT many fans who want the Simpsons LEGO.

Honestly I think LEGO needs to invest more in the themes that are already running strong rather than try to create so many new themes. More and better quality sets in current themes would make me want to buy more sets.

This is wonderful news for me – well save the part about the Simpsons. I have to admit, I am a bit interested in the new Chima sets. I was joking with my brother about a continuation of Chima a while back. The storyline I made up had a mystical Pig tribe assail Chima from the Underworld. The different animal tribes that had been warring had to unite to fight off the evil Pigs and Laval and Cragger became friends again and Chima dwelt in peace for the rest of its existence. I think LEGO’s storyline will be much better. 🙂 I should just stick with LOTR and Star Wars stuff! I have two questions though: it says “news & rumors”. I thought you told me you don’t write about rumors, Admin? The second question is: will Galaxy Squad continue?

Reply

Gabriel August 17, 2013 at 4:39 PM

As to your Galaxy Squad question, the catalog description of the Galactic Titan describes it as the “final battle,” so I am guessing it will not be continued.

Why would they make a simpsons Lego theme? I’ll bet it won’t even last as long as monster fighters. That theme didn’t do so well!

Any news on the Lord of the Rings 2014 sets? I haven’t seen a list, and man: I really want Barad-Dur.
And Minas Tirith.
And a Fell Beast.
And Lothlórien.
And Durin’s Bane.
And Minas Morgul.
And Edoras.
And The Prancing Pony.
And more Rivendell.
And a Watcher in the Water.
And Caradhras.
And Argonath.
And Amon Hen and Emyn Muil.
And the Dead Marshes.
And Osgiliath.
And Cirith Ungol.
And Mount Doom (with Ultrabuild/Hero Factory Sauron)

But apart from that, I’m not too bothered. 🙂

Hi! Do you think they will make more lego castle sets???

Reply

admin September 22, 2013 at 3:52 PM

Castle has been a staple for LEGO, so it will likely continue in some form. 😉

Reply

ThomasBrickers September 22, 2013 at 5:04 PM

wait what do you mean by “staple”? and when do you think it will continue

Thomas, by staple I meant that it is a theme that LEGO had always carried from all the way back to at least the 70s. LEGO City, LEGO Space and LEGO Castle are all staple, regularly carried themes. Currently the LEGO Castle offering is quite weak and half-hearted due to the fact that LOTR is pretty similar, however I’m sure the LEGO Castle sets will continue to be available through the holidays. When we will get new sets in the line though, I don’t know. LEGO has been spinning a lot of plates lately. 😉

Seth, we have talked about the Minecraft sets in several separate posts. They are under the LEGO Exclusives section. I have written a full review on them recently, and William also reviewed them. 🙂

Admin, do you play minecraft by any chance? =P

Reply

admin November 3, 2013 at 10:40 AM

I played a little bit just so I know what it’s about. I really don’t have time for computer games. I’m already on the computer way too much for work, so it is not relaxing or good for me to stay on the computer for fun. I’m either outside biking, going to the beach, practicing martial arts, working on a LEGO project or reading a book. 😉

New Millenium Falcon Ultimate coming. I have from a very reliable source that there will be a re-release of ultimate millenium falcon here in 2014 (or it could get early 2015) but it is coming….yes the very same that goes around 3000 USD at the moment. LEGO thinks it is to crazy the prize goes for that. If it also contains the same amount of bricks I downt know BR Soren, Denmark.

admin February 20, 2014 at 3:31 PM

Soren, thanks for sharing that! That would be amazing! My guess is that it would be early 2015 as the new Sandcrawler should be released as the big set this year, isn’t it? 🙄

Reply

Soren February 24, 2014 at 3:37 PM

I have no exact clue what so ever when it will be released nor do I know anything about the sandcrawler – the source who I met face to face is very reliable – if I told you I would expose him too much – since that are not may of his kind – He and I had a brief discussion but unfortunately I missed to get more information out of him. The reason why I am convince a re-release (or new version) is under way is just as I confronted him how about re-releasing the ultimate (falcon) version he looked at me and smiled “you never know…” and then pointed at the X-wing (the ultimate version) and said we decided to start with this one and the Millenium would a natural follow up on that…He and I are from the same part of Denmark – and when he had this certain smile and said the words “you never know… I just knew I hit the spot…I would have like to asked him if it will be as complex as the old. Given on the succes of the old my guess is also they will produce more items. BR Soren (btw to admin – the email is fake since I do not want to expose myself.)

Just a follow up…When I write email is fake to Admin, I mean the mail address I need to fill in order to send message – not my message itself . Just as he does not expected an answer from that address.

Soren, thanks for sharing. Even the info you were able to get is fun, so no worries that you don’t have more details. We should be able to know something by summer/fall, so it is only a bit more waiting. Don’t worry, your email address is only visible to me and I never share them, fake or real. 🙂
