LEGO fans have been impatiently waiting for the first official pictures of the 2012 LEGO SUPER HEROES sets, Wait no more!
In case you haven’t heard it yet, here is a little bit of background: earlier this year the LEGO Group has announced that scheduled for 2012, LEGO is releasing two new licensed themes under the name; LEGO SUPER HEROES. The licenses are with DC Comics from Warner Brothers and Marvel Comics from Marvel Entertainment. You can read the official press release here: LEGO SUPER HEROES Are Coming!
It was announced that the LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie (with characters like Iron Man, The Hulk, CaptainAmerica, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki and Black Widow in minifigure form), X-Men (Wolverine, Magneto, Nick Fury and Deadpool) and Spider-Man (Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus). Large, buildable characters will include CaptainAmerica, The Hulk and Iron Man. Here is the list of the 2012 Marvel LEGO sets (no pictures yet – sorry):
- #6865 LEGO SUPER HEROES Captain America Avenging Cycle
- #6866 LEGO SUPER HEROES Wolverine Chopper Showdown
- #6867 LEGO SUPER HEROES Loki’s Cosmic Cube Escape
- #6868 LEGO SUPER HEROES Hulk’s Helicarrier Breakout
- #6869 LEGO SUPER HEROES Quinjet Aerial Battle
The new DC Universe LEGO SUPER HEROES collection will feature 13 iconic super heroes in LEGO minifigure form, including: Batman, Robin, Catwoman, The Joker, The Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Bane, Bruce Wayne, Superman, Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman. Large, buildable characters will include Batman, The Joker and Green Lantern. Here is the list of the 2012 DC Universe LEGO sets (click on the pictures for larger view):
#6857 LEGO SUPER HEROES The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape – this set has been a total surprize as it never showed up on leaked images! LEGO hid it really well! Looks like lots of great play-value and great minifigs!
#6858 LEGO SUPER HEROES Catwoman’s Catcycle City Chase – similar to the #7779 LEGO Batman – Catwoman Pursuit released in 2006.
#6860 LEGO SUPER HEROES The Batcave – here is the 2006 version for comparison: #7783 LEGO Batman – The Batcave.
#6862 LEGO SUPER HEROES Superman vs. Power Armor Lex – Wonder Woman is an all new LEGO character! Very exciting set!
#6863 LEGO SUPER HEROES Batwing Battle Over Gotham City – an update from the 2006 #7782 LEGO Batman – The Joker’s Aerial Assault.
#6864 LEGO SUPER HEROES Batmobile & Two Face Chase – again, here is an interesting comparison to the 2006 #7781 LEGO Batman – Two Face’s Escape.
As you can see, at least the first wave of the DC Universe LEGO sets mostly include redesigned sets from 2006, with improved set design and minifigures. For LEGO fans, who missed out on the earlier release of these licensed sets, this is a second chance to get them! The LEGO SUPER HEROES line is scheduled to be released in April of 2012. Awesome, they’re doing X-men too!? These sets seem almost …too similar to the earlier batman sets, I hope they’re going to have some all new types of sets too.
Also I noticed in the list of 2012 Marvel sets you have Catwoman’s catcycle city, but Catwoman is DC, not Marvel.
Quad, thanks for catching that! I was typing up this post and I had the Catwoman set under Marvel but at some point as I was editing it disappeared from the list. I was wondering where it went! I thought it somehow got deleted so I retyped it. I didn’t notice that the original entry decided to join DC! Never trust these super heroes! 😆
WOW these look soooo cool. But why is two face purple and orange?
Bryson, good question! 😀
It’s the classic version of Two-Face.
I am soooo excited about the DC line. I am a huge DC fan and I totally missed out on the earlier series since it was during my Dark Ages. I know some fans are upset that these first few sets are just remakes of the previous series, but for me – that’s fantastic!
I do hope they’ll continue this line for some time and do new sets with new characters. DC has a huge library.
I wish, but know it won’t happen, that they’ll dip into the Vertigo line of DC. I would love minifigures from the Sandman series or Fables. But that’s pure fantasy as those lines are way too mature for LEGO’s main audience of kids. But I can dream…
I am excited about Marvel, too. I really hope they make some of the lesser known Xmen, but again I’m not holding my breath. I’d love to see Jubilee or Magik, but I’d settle for at least Rogue.
That’s all cool and all…and I’m sure the collectabilty of the sets will soar, but I feel saturated with the Marvel/DC thing right now…bring back Fantasy Era Castle, I say 🙂
Phade, I’m with you on that one; the Fantasy Era Castle line has been my most favorite of all! 🙂
Definitely need Fantasy Castle back! I was just existing my dark ages at the tail end of that and missed out on several cool sets that are now very expensive.
i like the old batcave better than this one
When will these sets come out in stores / lego.com? Thanks!
They are scheduled to be released in April. 🙂
