2013 LEGO theme mystery – what is this?

Although 2013 is still a bit away, LEGO fans already wonder what the New Year will bring. We talked about the 2013 LEGO Star Wars sets in  a previous post (see here: LEGO Star Wars News & Rumors of 2013 Sets), and today I would like to share with you an image sent in by our blogger friend Inger from TheBrickLife.com. She said she just received her latest LEGO Club Magazine with the following image. 🙂

Curious, huh? So what could it be? Recently LEGO trademarked two new names: “Speedorz” and “The Legend of Chima”. Speedorz appears to be some kind of a car-racing theme, judging by the name. Perhaps like LEGO Racers.

As far as The Legend of Chima, we can only speculate. Some LEGO fans say it may be another ninja/samurai type theme, perhaps the one that supposed to replace Ninjago. Other say it may be related to the legends of a Native American tribe in Trinidad, called the Chima, Chaima, or Chayma. According to legend, the Chima Indians were swallowed up by a lake as a punishment from the gods for disrespecting their ancestors. This could make a cool LEGO theme and story-line, don’t you think? 🙄

There is also an indication of another 2013 LEGO theme called LEGO Polar X-Plorer or Polar X-Press, featuring a research theme in a snowy/icy setting as reported on the EuroBricks Forum. From the icy look of the image above, it could likely be referring to this theme. Perhaps explorers and scientists are looking for some rare crystals while being attacked by wild polar beast?

What do you think? And which 2013 LEGO theme are you looking forward to? And what do you think The Legend of Chima is about? Share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉

  • J.C. September 4, 2012, 12:20 PM

The Legend of Chima sounds kind of lame. I bet it’s like Indiana Jones.

    • legosw September 4, 2012, 12:45 PM

well, according to a friend of mine, the chima thing is gonna replace ninjago

      • J.C. September 4, 2012, 12:54 PM

        I hope not!

        • legosw September 4, 2012, 12:58 PM

well, for sure ninjago is going in january

      • legolotr September 4, 2012, 5:12 PM

    • No you didn't! January 5, 2013, 12:52 PM

Not even close. You should actually see the sets.

  • The Yellow Ninja September 4, 2012, 12:46 PM

I don’t think, I KNOW that this is the speedorz theme.

    • legosw September 4, 2012, 12:59 PM

          • ntk743 September 4, 2012, 3:24 PM

Well, Ninjagos not dead yet! And LEGO said that it may not even die in 2013

            • stewbrick901 September 4, 2012, 7:40 PM

ntk’s right, he reached out to LEGO (..or was it the other guy? Sorry, but I get you guys confused :S) and LEGO replied that there is no official confirmation that Ninjago is ending in 2013. If it did, it would be a major loss in profits though, because Ninjago is a big money-booster in the LEGO theme industry (or whatever that’s called :P). And plus, the TV series and sets themselves have been loved by many! So I doubt that Ninjago will end by 2013. It’s gonna stay around for a while :).

              • gid617 September 5, 2012, 6:50 AM

I thinmk they might extend it too. After all, Ninjago’s apparently doing much better this year than they thought it would, so ending now wouldn’t make too much sense (to me). But Legends of Chima does sound like a potential replacement.

                • stewbrick901 September 7, 2012, 7:19 AM

It kind of sounds like Chinese-themed sets, so I don’t think it’s more of a replacement, just a new theme 🙂

            Same

    • SKOUTLAW FOR LIFE ( THAT MEANS I AM A FAN OF SKYLAR LAINE ) September 4, 2012, 4:16 PM

  • SKOUTLAW FOR LIFE ( THAT MEANS I AM A FAN OF SKYLAR LAINE ) September 4, 2012, 4:43 PM

  • Shade Snake September 4, 2012, 4:43 PM

That is weird. My lego club magazine does not have that image. I have the latest issue.

    • admin September 4, 2012, 5:36 PM

Shade Snake, it is the Australian version of the LEGO Club Magazine that has the image. 😉

  • Kay (The Silver Ninja of Air) September 4, 2012, 6:51 PM

Hmm… Legend of Chima… *gets in The Thinker pose* DEFINENTLY sounds Ninjago-ish, but it also sounds Avatar: The Last Airbender-ish too… Hm…
    ~ the silver ninja 😉

    • admin September 4, 2012, 8:06 PM

Kay, that’s a good point about it being Ninjago-ish and Airbender-ish. We shall see! 😀

      • Kay (The Silver Ninja of Air) September 4, 2012, 8:38 PM

Yeah, “Chima” sounds Ninjago and legend of sparked my fond admiration for The Legend of Korra. And I’m SO RANT-ISH TONIGHT! I think I’m just way too Spinjitsuin’ excited for my field trip tomorrow!!!
        ~ the silver ninja 😉

        • Maxx September 5, 2012, 12:39 PM

Can’t it be it’s : Ninjago, the legend of Chima?

          • admin September 5, 2012, 7:36 PM

Maxx, that is actually a really interesting idea! Haven’t thought of that, but it sounds good! 🙄

            • studless September 11, 2012, 11:54 AM

Who’s to say that it won’t replace the pharaohs quest.

It sounds like an adventure style theme to me.

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 12:23 AM

I hope Legends of Chima IS like you decribet it Anna. I’m excited becaus eit might include minifigs like the Aztec Warriror or teh OCnquistador from the CMFs… That would be tubular!!!!!

    • admin September 5, 2012, 8:35 AM

Micho, yeah, I also thought about the possibility of some version of the Aztec Warrior being part of this theme. After all LEGO made the mold for that gorgeous headgear! It would be a shame to use it for only one minifigure! 😀

  • Micho September 5, 2012, 11:35 AM

Found a small article on the Chima Indians… very interesting that there is a conquistador standing over a Chima Indian.

    • Micho September 5, 2012, 11:41 AM

actually he’s standing over another conquistador, but they do talk about awinged king/god kinda like the Aztec Warrior… verrrrry interesting

    • admin September 5, 2012, 7:38 PM

Micho, very interesting article! We shall see how this legend will unfold! 🙄

      • Micho September 5, 2012, 8:43 PM

Glad you enjoyed the read Anna, I sure didn’t know anything about the Chima until this morning.

  • bejeken September 5, 2012, 12:21 PM

        • Taryn (Ninja of Electronics) September 6, 2012, 5:17 PM

cool. so the ninja will have new opponents!!! i actually sent an email to lego asking if the rumors of ninjago leaving were true. they said it was confidential or something

          • Micho September 6, 2012, 8:12 PM

  • tgb.legoguy January 15, 2013, 7:12 PM

    Is the polar-X rumor true?

    • admin January 15, 2013, 7:59 PM

The Polar-X rumor pretty much died out. And of course now we know that the poster with the question mark was referring to Chima. 😉
