LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall updated selection

(Written by James Altland)

As we have discussed before (see here: LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall Updates & Changes and here: LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall Changes Follow-Up), the LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall selection is now more consistent across Official LEGO Stores and is changed on a quarterly basis. I recently visited the LEGO Store in Columbus, Ohio and asked a sales associate about the changes to the system and the current selection. I thought to share with readers here what I have learned during my visit. 🙂

LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall

The LEGO sales associate told me that the current selection – which was introduced on July 1st – features pastel colors to match the LEGO Disney Princess and LEGO Friends sets. The store will try to add a new set of elements to match one of the LEGO brand themes about every three months, and will allot approximately 1/3rd of the PAB Wall to that theme.

The previous theme was based on LEGO City with elements for houses and vehicles, and as I have mentioned, the new theme is based on the LEGO Disney Princess and LEGO Friends sets with pastel colors. There is signage around the bins indicating which elements go well with LEGO City and LEGO Disney Princess sets. There are also signs pointing out which elements are new (see photo below). I visit my local LEGO store often, but this is the first time I have noticed these.

As far as the added pastel colors, my local LEGO store already had a good mix of lime-green, orange and light-pink elements, and now they also added light-purple and medium-azure to the mix. Here is the full list of all the new elements that were added to the PAB wall:

  • Reddish-brown horses
  • Reddish-brown staircases
  • Medium-azure 2 x 4 plates
  • Light-purple 2×4 plates
  • Bright-pink 2×6 plates
  • Bright-pink 1×2 plates
  • Medium-blue 1×1 bricks
  • Translucent-blue gems
  • Translucent-red 1×1 tiles

I have updated the two Pick-A-Brick Wall inventory websites that I know of, wallofbricks.com and brickbuildr.com, with the current selection of my local LEGO store, which will give you a visual on what is available. If you live near an Official LEGO Store I encourage you to update these websites for your locality as well. It is a bit of a hassle to do it, but it greatly benefits the LEGO fan community by being able to plan ahead before visiting a store.

LEGO PAB Wall Selection

In summary I would say that the pastel colors, the horses, and the staircases are all great additions to the LEGO PAB Wall. It is not a dramatic transformation, but it was a good idea to make the changes more consistent across stores, and to freshen up the wall on a regular basis. I’m also looking forward to the next theme, which should be available at the beginning of October. There is of course also the online Pick-A-Brick Wall in case you don’t have a LEGO store near you, but it has a different selection. You can check that out here: Online LEGO Pick-A-Brick

I need to visit the PAB wall at my store soon. I need a few bricks.

From what I’ve read, the horses did not last long at most stores. Those that do still have them are limiting them to 4-5 per cup or per person. SO people got 60+ when they came out. I was happy with my 12.

    • cgarison July 10, 2014, 1:04 PM

So how many of those people who bought 60+ horses are hocking them on Bricklink? I know our local store has severely cracked down on Bricklink resellers cleaning out the bins to sell Lego product on the secondary market. In fact, one guy is not only blacklisted from Lego.com, but he has been asked not to purchase at our local retail stores.

That’s nuts. He’s not breaking the law, that’s just how any free economy works.

        • Håkan July 23, 2014, 4:37 AM

Well, if the store thinks he’s a harmful influence for other customers’ experience, I guess they have the right to stop him on the same reasons of free economy. Legally, it might be another matter, though.

Recently visited the store in Copenhagen, btw. No horses left, alas…

I went to mine on July 1st for the monthly mini model build—now I have a surfboard! I got some stuff from the pick a brick wall—a horse, a staircase, tons of grass, clear 1×1 plates for water, and tons of grey pieces. I made something random with it all:

I got six horses. I didn’t want to be greedy and leave some for others. I wish they had the saddles . Maybe that will be in the next wave of new pick a brick wall .( all saddles and no horses.)

Hmm. I don’t think I will get to enjoy much of the in-store pick a brick goodness. My 3 closest stores are 2 hours for 3-4 hours away and the updated inventories from just a couple months ago looks super lame. I am however going to visit the Santa Clara, CA store when I go down for Bricks by the Bay to see what they have.

sigh. It’s articles like this that just builds up my envy of you westerners one 1×1 plate at a time…

You know, truth be told, I miss deep, helpful topics that fits more into guides and customizations-You know, like those ones about Keychain and Magnets removals, which brought me to this site in the first place! But then again who am I to speak, I should be more than capable of writing one myself here if I’m just less lazy…

I actually much prefer writing tutorial type articles, but they are a lot of work so I can’t do them all the time. But yeah, I sneak them in when I can. And of course you are welcome to write them too. 😉

Scowls. You people get all the good stuff. It’s summer and there are HORSES (which I have none of) and cool plates at PAB walls, and where am I? Home. With parents that will not go to the LEGO store to save their lives. “No more Legos until we go to Disney World.” That’s in December! 😡 🙁
Will there be horses at the PAB wall in December? 😕

    • admin July 10, 2014, 5:10 PM

Now, now… don’t be grumpy. I’m sending a herd of horses your way. There are wild though, so watch out… 😉

      • BLProductions July 10, 2014, 8:16 PM

A herd of wild horses? No nice, tame horses from Rohan? Hm, Gandalf would be able to handle this if I had the Black Gate…. 🙂

        • admin July 10, 2014, 11:12 PM

Wild horsies are awesome. Catching one is of course a whole other matter. 🙄

  • Davella July 10, 2014, 3:32 PM

I’ll be going to the Downtown Disney LEGO Store this Monday hoping there’s horses.

  • MASTEROFFIRE July 10, 2014, 4:25 PM

That’s cool although I don’t really like pick a brick due to prices, unless you only need replacement pieces. Brick link is way better if you are just looking for bricks.

  • Matthew July 10, 2014, 6:57 PM

Is it still true that you can bring in your old pick a brick containers? I believe that you used to get a discount when you did that, but I am not positive. Thanks for the article!

    • BLProductions July 10, 2014, 8:07 PM

Yes, usually you get a sticker on your Pick a Brick cup, and if you bring in that cup again (preferably with sticker) you can get a 25¢ discount. 😉 The 25¢ is just in the US, of course; I’m not sure what other countries have. 😐

      • Katra July 10, 2014, 8:18 PM

        The discount is 50 cents.

I have noticed some of the ‘new’ and ‘goes well with’ signage on the pab wall over the last two or three months. (My last trip was just before the change – Tigard OR. Unfortunately also a 2 hour trip for me, but it’s also not the only place I go on the trip.)

        • BLProductions July 10, 2014, 9:53 PM

Are you sure? My PAB cups all say 25 cents. 😐
The last time I was at a LEGO store was in February, so I have seen nothing new. 🙁

  • MrSamwiseGamgee July 13, 2014, 7:24 PM

Your Pick a Brick wall is huge!

  • Joshua Gay September 1, 2014, 1:08 AM

Small Cup $0.25 Discount for Reuse
Large Cup $0.50 Discount for Reuse
They generally don’t bother adding stickers anymore, stickers would fall off after a while anyway.
Horses were on the wall in Tigard today, limit 3, they got a second shipment, of a whopping 2 cases, they were going fast.

      Joshua, thanks for the update!
