2014 LEGO Advent Calendars & more!

You may feel like it’s a bit early to talk about Christmas, however I wanted to bring it to your attention that this year’s LEGO Advent Calendar sets are now available. The reason I mention this is because these are sets that tend to sell by the time you would think about buying them, so picking them up early is a good idea. 🙂

2014 LEGO Advent Calendars

If you are not familiar with the LEGO Advent Calendars I recommend that you read the following article I wrote about the history of these fun holiday sets: LEGO Christmas Sets: Advent Calendars. In short LEGO Advent Calendars mimic traditional European advent calendars; counting down to Christmas by opening a little window each day, and finding a little treasure inside (in this case small LEGO set). LEGO usually releases two or three advent calendars in different themes, so we will talk about the ones available for this year, as well as where you can get them.

#60063 LEGO CITY ADVENT CALENDAR – This is one of the most traditional LEGO Advent Calendars, and although sometimes people feel that LEGO City is a bit boring, this year’s LEGO City Advent Calendar is excellent! First of all there is a proper Santa minifig, instead of that fake Santa we have been getting for years with a red pirate headband. This more appropriate version of Santa only appeared once previously in the LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series, and comes with another rare piece in the form of his bag. Then there is also a full turkey, another piece that is hard to come by and LEGO fans love to get their hands on. There are many other rare and very useful pieces in this set: food items, minifig accessories, pieces in nice colors… and a little Christmas tree – there is really nothing negative I can say about this collection, in fact for this year this is my favorite! Below is the official description as well as links to get the set either on Amazon or at the Online LEGO Shop.

#60063 LEGO Advent Calendar

Count down to Christmas with the LEGO City Advent Calendar, a great gift featuring 7 minifigures, a snowman, turkey, sled and more. Make every day a festive building adventure as you count down to Christmas with the LEGO City Advent Calendar! Take the boy to post a letter to Santa, build a snowman, visit the Christmas market and go ice-skating with his friend. Play with an early Christmas gift of a duck built from LEGO bricks. Help the police to build an awesome sled to catch the crook who’s stolen the presents. Then it’s time for a celebration feast, exchanging gifts around the Christmas tree and a visit from a very special guest. Ho-ho-who could it be?! Includes 7 minifigures with assorted accessories: a boy, woman, girl, crook, 2 policemen and Santa. 218 pieces. Price: $29.99 – BUY ON AMAZON or BUY AT THE ONLINE LEGO SHOP

#60063 LEGO City Advent Calendar

#75056 LEGO STAR WARS ADVENT CALENDAR – Traditionally this is always the most fun LEGO Advent Calendar with micro versions of LEGO Star Wars ships, and LEGO Star Wars characters in Christmas-y outfits. This year is no exception, with Darth Vader dressed up as Santa, and R2-D2 disguised as a Christmas tree! The little ships and other Star Wars vehicles are also excellent this year and would be fun for any LEGO Star Wars fan. However because the set is licensed, it is more expensive that the other two. Below is the official description as well as links to get the set either on Amazon or at the Online LEGO Shop.

There are also two LEGO Friends mini-dolls with nice printing. Below is the official description as well as links to get the set either on Amazon or at the Online LEGO Shop.

Again, while waiting until later with your other LEGO purchases for the holidays is just fine, I recommend you get these earlier to make sure you don’t miss out. The exclusive #10245 LEGO Winter Village Santa’s Workshop set is not yet available so we will talk about that later, however you may want to check out a couple of other small sets related to upcoming holidays to meet the thresholds needed for freebies and free shipping: the #40090 LEGO Halloween Bat (very cute), and the #850936 LEGO Halloween Set (very spooky!). 😈

There are so many opportunities to get a Santa Claus figure. There’s this one, the Workshop, and the little Christmas mini set they’re releasing.

Do you think when you do these Advent Calender things you could put:
(SPOILER ALERT) at the top so that it can stay a surprise until December?

    • admin September 10, 2014, 11:12 PM

I don’t think I have shared any spoilers, did I? The images are directly from the Online LEGO Shop. The video review by JANGBRiCK that I have included does have a spoiler alert at the beginning as he goes into a more detail. Other than the video, the rest is just generic information about the sets. 🙂

  • ninja of stealth September 12, 2014, 1:12 PM

Maybe he means when it shows what’s in the advent calendars you could say spoiler alert! these images show what’s in the advent calendars, or something like that.

  • ninjagofan September 17, 2014, 12:04 AM

  • Chris of Yoda Archives September 21, 2014, 11:49 PM

I got the Star Wars Advent as part of my purchase to get the Classic LEGO spaceman. I might get the City one this year. It looks interesting. My son in now three he might be old enough to understand counting down to Christmas.

Having trouble getting the turkey to lock into the table. Is there a trick?

    • admin December 28, 2014, 10:58 AM

If you are talking about the turkey on the table in the City Advent Calendar, it is not attached. Just sits on top. You can put a couple of 1×1 plates inside to make it stick to the plate, but otherwise it’s meant to be loose.
