LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland review

One of the most talked about 2015 summer LEGO sets has been the #76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland from the DC Comics universe. The set is big, bad, and incredibly fun. Plus there are eight minifigures; several of them unique to the set. So let’s take a closer look. 🙂

#76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland

Here is the official description of the set: Rescue rookie heroes from the horrifying Jokerland! The Joker and his team of villains have transformed Gotham City’s amusement park into the nightmarish Jokerland and trapped Starfire, Beast Boy and Robin. Drive to the rescue with Batman in the awesome Batmobile. Dodge the cannon and target the clown robot with the shooting missiles. Then it’s time for some serious super-jumping action to bring down the villains. Bam! Topple The Penguin from his podium. Wham! Launch a perfectly aimed jump to release Robin from his upside-down bike ride with Harley Quinn. Pow! Take down Poison Ivy from her swinging branch. Finally, knock The Joker from the clown’s mouth down the slide and into the poison pool chamber! Includes 8 minifigures with assorted accessories: Batman, Robin, Beast Boy, Starfire, The Penguin, The Joker, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. 1037 pieces. Price: $119.99 – BUY HERE

#76035 LEGO Super Heroes

Basically what we have here is an amusement park that has gone bad, which actually opens up the opportunity to place this set right into your LEGO City layout. The fact that the various rides are separate units allows you to put them in whatever configuration you want – making the set extremely versatile. It would be quite fun to mix the LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland with the #10247 LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel and the #10244 LEGO Creator Fairground Mixer for a huge fairground with hidden evil rides. Just sayin’… 😈

#76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland Review

There are four rides in the set, and again, you can configure them any way you want. The Joker ride features a clown face with tilting hat, rolling eyes, mouth with podium for The Joker, slide, poison pool chamber and a mirror house. It is the largest of the rides and measures 11” (29cm) high, 9” (23cm) wide and 3” (9cm) deep. As you will see in the video-review below by JANGBRiCKS it is full of fun play-features. The Poison Ivy ride features 3 seats, man-eating plant with snapping jaws, and handcuffs. The Harley Quinn ride includes a motorbike in a new color, attachment underneath for captured passenger, handcuffs, Super-Jumper-activated bike launch function, and garbage cans on fire! The Penguin ride features rear-wheel-operated rotating duck seats, The Penguin’s podium with Super-Jumper-activated-toppling function, penguin, handcuffs, 3 dynamite sticks and hidden sharks. There is also a clown robot with a firing cannon, 3 cannonballs and a dynamite stick.

#76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland Batmobile

If that’s not enough, the set also includes a really good looking Batmobile with opening cockpit, two spring-loaded missiles, two rear stud-shooters, and giant batwings. The Batmobile is quite large at over 2” (7cm) high, 9” (24cm) long and 2” (7cm) wide. JAGNBRiCKS mentions he doesn’t like the round piece at the front that hides the stud-shooters, but I think it looks great. If you don’t like it, you can also take the pieces off and the stud-shooters will still work just fine.

#76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland Good Guys #76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland Bad Guys

The minifigs in the LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland are excellent. There are eight minifigs in total: Batman, Robin, Beast Boy, Starfire, The Penguin, The Joker, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Several of the minifigures are unique to this set, while others are variations we haven’t seen before. Batman has legs with two color plastic that represent boots, and Robin has two color plastic on his arms for shirt-sleeves. Starfire and Beast Boy are completely new characters, with Starfire having some really nice metallic printing on her arms. Seven of the eight minifigs have alternate faces and they all come with front and back torso printing. As you can see, LEGO did an excellent job on all of them, which should make collectors very happy.

All in all this set is a great combination of fun play-features, versatility, interesting elements, and a great selection of minifigures. DC Super Heroes fans probably get it right away, and as I mentioned it can also be interesting for LEGO City fans as a unique addition to their city layout. The price is on the high side, but it is not unreasonable based on the piece-count. There are so many exciting new LEGO sets in this price-range however that I think it will come down to which one do you like the best. The #76035 LEGO Super Heroes Jokerland is definitely a strong contender and there is really nothing negative I can say about it. The set is available under the LEGO DC Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The minifig selection is great! Also a fun looking set otherwise.

So many exciting new sets! Thanks for sharing! 😀

      • kai August 5, 2015, 9:02 PM

Cool! I really like the sound of some of the NinjaGo sets!

        • kai August 5, 2015, 9:03 PM

Looks like they’ll bring dragons back!

          • admin August 6, 2015, 11:13 AM

And there will be dragons in the Elves sets too! 🙄

            • Håkan August 11, 2015, 6:45 AM

              Sweet!

        • admin August 6, 2015, 11:13 AM

          Yeah, me too! 😀

    • BLProductions August 6, 2015, 2:20 PM

Thanks for the list (they’re also now added to Brickset). 🙂
Some of the sets sound interesting, but most of them seem rather boring (Creator and Technic especially sound disappointing), but I really can’t judge until we have official names and pictures. I except most of those we will get around October.
The dragons sound cool, perhaps the Ninjago ones are the energy dragons from the T.o.E. season. I hope the Elves dragons are full-size and brick built, not little molded ones. Hopefully.
Now, Nexo Knights, that’s an odd theme, and according to Brickset it’s a sub-theme of Castle. I think the sets are like Chima was: some normal sets, then some competition sets (like Speedorz), and the “Ultimate” sets are probably constraction. Images will tell all…. 😕

      • Legozebra August 6, 2015, 9:32 PM

Not too sure about the Ultimate sets being CCBS… I’m expecting something more like the Chima Legend beasts, utilizing the Mixels joints, at that price point ($10).

Side note: in the Bionicle list, set 71311 Kopaka and Melum Unity Set was also confirmed

        • admin August 6, 2015, 10:33 PM

I’m going to put together a post about this so we can discuss the new sets further. However you are welcome to continue your conversation here. I’m thinking that those Ultimate sets might be some kind of game like the Speedorz or Ninjago spinners. Or they could be like what you said; like the Legend Beasts… or… something totally different. 😉

      • admin August 6, 2015, 10:37 PM

Technic has some interesting sets like the Rescue Bot and the Escape Vehicle. And Creator has that Corner Deli, which sounds nice. And yes, Nexo Knights are the real puzzle here. I do know for a fact that Mark Stafford worked on the theme, so it should be interesting. I’m not sure though how Castle fans would receive this. They normally like traditional castles with maybe a touch of fantasy. This seems to be way out of their comfort zone. 😐

        • Legozebra August 7, 2015, 10:23 AM

From what I’ve observed on Eurobricks, a lot of traditional castle fans seem disappointed, while fans of themes like Ninjago and Chima are excited. I guess it’s all a matter of personal preference. I for one am very excited and hoping for a TV show as well…

          • admin August 7, 2015, 1:08 PM

Yes, for sure. This is way out of the comfort-zone of traditional Castle fans. Perhaps traditional Castle no longer appeals to kids? I’m pretty sure both kids and adults were excited about the rumors of a fantasy based Castle line with elves, dwarves and all. This rumor has been circulating for some time now as well. Looks like it is not going to happen. With the Castle spinoff of Nexo Knights, and the fantasy theme of LEGO Elves that will have dragons next year, there just seems to be no room left for traditional Castle. 🙁

            • BLProductions August 7, 2015, 3:02 PM

I never did get the chance to get any Castle sets, as the last true line of sets was in 2013, which I missed. I would like more traditional knights vs. dragons sets or similar, as I like those kinds of sets. Perhaps LEGO can make sets that somewhat replicate missed scenes in LotR….
Nexo Knights to me sounds a little dumb, but I must wait until we have images for a full opinion. Too bad it isn’t “Meta Knights,” meaning LEGO got a Kirby license. 😉

              • admin August 7, 2015, 5:20 PM

I think at this point we just have to wait and see. No need to get disappointed or overly excited prematurely. I did put together a post for next week discussing Nexo Knights more extensively where I share my thoughts on the new theme in more detail. Meta Knights would be interesting. Although in general I prefer LEGO’s own themes.

                • Håkan August 11, 2015, 6:58 AM

Speaking of fantasy and dragons, J. K. Rowling’s (Harry Potter) new film project “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is scheduled for release Nov 18, 2016, and a secretly acquired licence is unconfirmed, but not unlikely.

                  • Håkan August 11, 2015, 7:24 AM

And the Nexo Knights theme doesn’t sound too appealing to me. Sounds a bit like Knight’s Kingdom II, which I overall find lacking and a bit boring…

Then, I’m not buying many new sets, anyway…

                    • admin August 11, 2015, 9:50 AM

                      Oh, dear… not another Knights Kingdom… 🙁

                  • admin August 11, 2015, 9:48 AM

                    Oh! That’s really interesting! 😀

    • Håkan August 11, 2015, 6:51 AM

Korallina might be the German name for Ariel’s (The Little Mermaid) cat. It seems she’s called “Treasure” in English.

  • Brad August 6, 2015, 2:48 AM

I bought Robin, Beast Boy, and Starfire off of Bricklink because I’m a Fan of the Teen Titans cartoon. They’re actually based on Teen Titans Go!, but the only difference is Starfire’s hair (dark red in TT, pink in TTG), so I just gave her a dark red hairpiece (the same one used for USM Mary Jane), and problem solved. I also gave her studs instead of, though the same color as, the dishes called for in the instructions, in order not to obscure her arm printing. Additionally, I gave Beast Boy medium grey (I wish they came in silver) hands (he’s supposed to have gloves), as well as giving Robin two layered short capes (black on top of yellow) since his cape is almost that short, in those colors, layered that way, in the show, and a longer medium grey rod for his bo staff. I’m kind of wondering why they couldn’t give him his boots, since they gave Beast Boy boots. I’m looking forward to when they release Raven and a TT/TTG version of Cyborg. I was hoping they’d give us a TT version of Deathstroke (called Slade in the series), but since they’re going from TTG and not TT, I find it unlikely well get him.

As for the rest of the set, I’m a bit surprised they didn’t give us another 80’s Batman, since that’s the version of the batmobile they give us here. Yes, they’d be adding to the 8 sets (6 without the Lego movie version) that already feature that minifigure, but it’d make a lot of sense here.

    • admin August 6, 2015, 11:33 AM

Brad, those sound like really good customizations. Both Marvel and Super Heroes are permanent licenses (as far as anything can be permanent in this temporary world), so it is possible that we will see the other characters you mention as well. 🙂

      • Brad August 7, 2015, 2:37 PM

I didn’t know they were permanent licenses. That’s pretty cool. Are you a Christian? From your word choice, it sounds like you are.

        • BLProductions August 7, 2015, 2:52 PM

I think admin was referring to the temporary world of LEGO licenses. Most licenses tend to last only a few years; “permanent licenses,” such as Super Heroes and Star Wars, therefore last much longer (SW has been around since 1999). Marvel and DC sets started in 2011, and because of new movie releases, will be able to continue for a long time. 🙂

          • admin August 7, 2015, 5:16 PM

Yes, thank you for the clarification. Always appreciate your assistance. 🙂

            • BLProductions August 7, 2015, 9:14 PM

No problem. Happy to help. 🙂

        • admin August 7, 2015, 5:16 PM

Brad, I’m a spiritual person but not religious. 😉

          • Håkan August 11, 2015, 6:49 AM

I think the idea of the world’s temporariness also is common in Eastern religions…

            • admin August 11, 2015, 9:48 AM

The material world is considered temporary. There is also the spiritual world, which is eternal. I think this is pretty common understanding in most religions and spiritual practices.
