LEGO Ideas Build Your Own Microgame Contest

For the next LEGO Ideas contest titled “LEGO Ninjago + One-Button Digital Game using the LEGO Microgame”, the LEGO Ideas team is putting some arcade cabinets into LEGO retail stores. They would love to have you showcase your own game creations on them!

Both Unity and the LEGO Group have been hard at work improving the tools from the submissions and feedback from the last LEGO Ideas competition to help make it easier and more fun to make a game, and most importantly easier to share the fun you have made with others. There is an arcade cabinet in the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark at the moment, and the LEGO Ideas team will be announcing some of the other global locations shortly.

The LEGO Ideas team has also been working closely with the LEGO Ninjago team to help develop a library of resources and inspirations to spark your imagination. Want to know what makes a great LEGO Ninjago game, visit the LEGO Ideas contest page and watch the video with the LEGO Ninjago Design Lead. There are three different categories for the competition:

  • A LEGO Ninjago-themed game. Be Ninja!
  • A game with a theme of your choice. What is one-button fun to you (use of third-party IPs is NOT allowed)?
  • A game made only with LEGO behavior-bricks, so no additional scripting.

If you are in doubt about whether to participate in the next LEGO Ideas contest – visit the LEGO Microgame page today to learn more. The LEGO Ideas team cannot wait to see your amazing game creations!

For more information, please look out for the announcement on the LEGO Ideas blog, where you can ask questions. To participate in the contest, please visit the contest page.

What do you think? Have you played with the LEGO Microgame creator? And what do you think of the contest? Are you planning to participate? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

Can we get rid of the minifigs already!? Jeeze such a waste of feckin’ plastic. Games too. Who plays mini games? Lego is about building sets. Why can’t they do things that are fascinating? Gothic, dungeons, trebuchet’s, catapults, torture devices and other fun items. Custom and antique cars would be a nice change. Boats that float too. No more Star Wars or Marvel or any comic book crap. It’s a shame you delete my posts. I feel I am in a group that is not afraid to offend Lego ambassadors. I call them out in streams on Twitch for building advance builds they obviously don’t care for. If I was a Lego ambassador I would return many of the free sets they give out for lack of originality. I have been building Lego since the sixties and ever since the minifig was introduced the sets have gotten weird in their scaling and lack luster designs have taken over. I stopped streaming Lego builds because there are no good sets to carry a consistent weekly stream. WHY DON’T YOU LEGO BLOGGERS BE HONEST AND CALL OUT JUNKY IDEAS WHEN YOU SEE IT??????? Noooo, You are all “We suck up to Lego’s big schlong to be popular and get free stuff.” Nothing but despise and disgust of the whole bunch of you lying all the time. EGOMANIACS!! Did you enjoy the laugh today? I love Lego but hate the culture it created..

Hm… while your thoughts are appreciated, I ask that you please keep your comments civil. The LEGO hobby has fans from all age groups, genders, countries, and cultures, and we all like different things. Your passion for the early days of LEGO is heard loud and clear, but please let others decide for themselves what themes and sets they like.

I grew up in a LEGO household where both my Mom (mechanical engineer) and Dad (architect) used LEGO for work and our collection dated back far before modern themes. So I’m very familiar with the look and feel of early LEGO sets. But I also greatly appreciate what LEGO is doing now, offering so many different options.

Myself and other contributors do share constructive criticism where we feel it’s warranted, but we write about LEGO because we’re passionate fans. None of us are getting paid to do this. Everyone who contributes here has a job, or business, or is still in school.

Again, you’re welcome to share your thoughts and passions but please refrain from insulting people just because they like different things than you do. If you ever would like to submit an article about why you like early LEGO and how you feel younger generations would benefit from taking a look at them, you’re welcome to do so (without the insults, of course). Play well and be happy.

P.S.: I never deleted any of your comments, although they sometimes may go under automatic temporary moderation triggered by certain words and phrases. This is a family-friendly site, and we want to keep it that way. I’m sure you can share your thoughts without using words that trigger moderation, so you don’t have to wait for your comment to show up.

Hey, man, are you okay? I have noticed that most of your comments here are very negative and angry. Nobody is stopping you from enjoying your old Lego. Chill a bit and build something!

You’re way out of line, old man. If you hate us so much, why are you even here? I’m sure there are forums for old folks to hang out and talk about old Lego. If you don’t like it here, go ahead and move on.

Okay, so if I’m understanding this correctly, I need to go to a lego store to participate in this?

    • Undercover AFOL September 29, 2021, 5:40 PM

I don’t think so. You build the game in the downloaded app from what I can gather.

  • Sith015 September 29, 2021, 8:42 PM

Why are old afols always so grumpy? Okay, maybe not all of them, but dude, this is just a hobby, let people enjoy it the way they like! Not everything is about you and what you want! Anyway, did anybody get the Unity minifig they were giving out? I think it was with a survey?

Hmm, appears to be crazy rare and expensive on BrickLink, considering the only unique part is the torso…

      • Thita (admin) September 30, 2021, 2:39 PM

Wow… I have one, but I never looked up the price on BrickLink! Maybe I should sell mine. 😀
