As we discussed last week, the LEGO Ninjago team was running a fun little treasure hunt, searching for fragments of a poster to reveal the name and some of the new and returning characters of the upcoming Ninjago show. The fragments are now all together, and the title is… drum roll, please… Dragons Rising! Below are the five fragments of the poster.
As you can see, Lloyd, Kai, and Nya are back, and the featured new characters include a ninja wearing golden armor and horns, another golden-armored figure wearing an Oni mask and wielding a hammer, a girl with pink hair wearing a hood with ears, and a baby dragon.
According to writer/producer Christopher Aaron “Doc” Wyatt, Ninjago: Dragons Rising is a new series, and not a follow-up or sequel to Ninjago Season 15: Crystalized. He posted on Twitter: “Same continuity, not a reboot, but 2023 was the end of an 11-year story cycle, whereas 2023 is a new series.”
IMDb, the online database with information related to films, the synopsis of the new series is as follows “The balance of the various realms has been upset and the resulting collision is wreaking havoc on Ninjago. The Ninjas must race against time to stop the destruction before it’s too late. To stop the destruction, the Ninjas must embark on a quest to find the Realm Weaver and destroy it before it’s too late. Along the way, they must navigate the dangerous terrain of the colliding realms and battle the various villains who seek the Realm Weaver for their own purposes.”
Ninjago: Dragons Rising will be released on June 1st in North America. You can already find a countdown timer on the official LEGO Ninjago page, and there are also a few teaser-trailers on YouTube. Watch them below.

This is awesome! I’m so excited!!!!
Yes, yes, YES! And that dreams trailer is dope! 😀
Really cool, but I’m confused how this is not season 16. What does it mean that this is a new series?
People on Brickset say that Dreamz is a different theme. I’m not sure what to think, but I like the zaniness. 😀
I think Dreamzzz is a new theme. Not part of the dragons series. Speaking of dragons, there is a leaked image of the baby dragon. It’s going to be a new animal mold!
I saw the baby dragon too! As far as dreams, I don’t know what to think. It’s like Time Cruisers, or something! 😀
This is going to be awesome! So, I’m thinking, if Lego runs out of ideas for a ninjago season. Maybe they could combine Monkie kid and ninjago? It’s just a thought. NINJAGO is always cool and exciting ( sometimes confusing). 😎
The series kinda overlap in theme and style, I guess, although they’re primarily aimed at different markets…
Okay, so the dragons are going to be back! Cool! I hope they will have molded heads. I prefer those over the brickbuilt ones. As far as the story, it kind of reminds me of rebooted.
Modeled and brickbuilt heads are both great and should be balanced. Look at the initial comment I made.
Unlike others, I believe, “Dragons Rising” is a sequel series to the previous Ninjago series.
What I believe is new is they’re taking a new approach to the show. New protagonists, lands & continents from all 16 realms (including Chima) have come to Ninjago, and most of all many of the rules of the previous series are being broken. Such as self-taught spinjitzu, a technopath, and more than one fire elemental. (When you think about it, some of the elemental masters have powers that branch from some of the same elements.) Empress Beatrix is a spoiled brat. Ras appears to be from Chima and quite possibly will become the main antagonist in a future season.
I want Kai on the floating Island of Chima, teenage Skales Jr., Karlof & Metalonia, Cole being half ghost, P.I.X.A.L., Ronin (the Anti-hero, mercenary, and bounty hunter.), Dareth effectively learning the animal fighting styles but he is still clumsy and incompetent, and also what was the wife of the first spinjitzu master like.
I believe that Cole is half ghost because since becoming human again he has had a green mark on his forehead. Perhaps he will tap into this power and switch between human and ghost forms at will.
Kai said he woke up on an island that he had never seen before the Merge. It could be Chima. He would get along with Laval and Craggar. It is likely Arin wasn’t the only one who lost everything in the Merge. I would like Worriz to have a similar story. The whole wolf tribe disappeared after the Merge. During and after this ordeal, for the first time in his life, Worriz felt truly terrified and alone.
