LEGO Ideas Contest: If We Could Turn Back Time

The LEGO Ideas team is running a new contest titled “If We Could Turn Back Time”. This is a challenge all about the 80s! Regardless if you were around in the 80s or not, there are so many iconic TV shows and films from that era. With a huge amount of nostalgia and the chance to become a LEGO Ideas Fan Designer, could you build submissions that celebrate these shows and films using good old LEGO bricks?

According to the contest page, your entry must be a retro show or film you love from that era that inspires you. A cult classic, something from your childhood, or an old-school action-packed adventure! Below are the details.

Your submissions should only reference approved intellectual properties (IPs) as disclosed in the LEGO Ideas IP checking tool. If an IP is not listed in the IP tool, then you may submit the creation, after which the LEGO Ideas evaluation team will evaluate the suitability of the IP. It may therefore be either approved or denied. You can find the IP checking tool by visiting Ideas.LEGO.com/Projects/Create and clicking “Submit Idea”.

Choosing to base your submission on any current or previous LEGO set with an appropriate IP (Indiana Jones, Seinfeld, TRON) will not be accepted. Your submission must be either entirely new creations or expired Product Ideas. Active Product Ideas will not be accepted.

A judging panel consisting of members of the LEGO Ideas review board will select all the entries that participate in the fan vote. Just like in the previous “What Does Family Mean to You?” challenge, all entries that reach the fan vote phase could be a new LEGO Ideas product! For full details on what the judges are looking for, visit the contest page.

A maximum of five entries will be part of the fan vote following the judging process. The winning entry in the fan vote will be compensated as a product idea prizewinner as outlined in the Product Idea Guidelines and Terms of Service. Meaning, they will receive the following: 1% of the total net sales of the product, 10 complimentary copies of their LEGO Ideas set, and credit and bio in set materials as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer.

Entries that are selected to participate in the fan vote will receive the following: the #21314 LEGO Ideas Tron Legacy set, the #21328 LEGO Ideas Seinfeld set, and the #10300 Back to the Future Time Machine.

If you would like to participate in this contest, submit your entry no later than the 9th of April, 2024 at 6:00 a.m. EST. Submissions may be in either physical bricks or by using a digital building tool such as Bricklink’s Stud.io. You’re welcome to use image editing tools, such as Photoshop, to create your images. Take up to ten photos of your creation and submit them to the challenge. Make sure to show off all angles and any features or functions of your creation. Add a title and a short description. Upload your entry to the challenge using the blue Submit Your Entry button on the contest entry page.

The challenge will consist of three phases: Submission Phase – Build and submit your entry before the 9th of April, 2024 at 6:00 a.m. EST. Judging Phase – The judges review the entries and choose a maximum of 5 entries, which will then go forward to a fan vote, on the 16th of April, 2024. Voting Phase – LEGO Ideas members will then have the opportunity to vote once, for their favorite entry from the 16th of April to the 23rd of April, 2024. Winners Announcement – The LEGO Ideas team will share the results of the fan vote on LEGO Ideas no later than the 14th of June, 2024.

Speaking of fan votes, you can now vote for the finalist in the LEGO Ideas Exploring the Cosmos building contest, which will become the next LEGO Ideas reward set. The LEGO Ideas judges pre-selected 23 projects and you can pick two of your favorites. The deadline is March 8th. You can vote on this contest page.

What do you think? Are you planning to enter the current contest? And which one of the projects did you vote for from the previous contest? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! And you can also take a look at the currently available LEGO Ideas sets originally desisgned by LEGO fans at the Online LEGO Shop.

Too bad the IP selection is somewhat limited. Lego already brought back several 80s favorites.

I voted for the small space station in a box and the monorail. Both are fantastic!

The mini space sets are awesome. I have a hard time deciding which one I would like. Man, this is a great time to be a space fan!
