There are three important pieces of news from the LEGO Ideas platform, including review results, a new contest with awesome prices, and some important terms of service updates. So let’s take a look!
Over the past months, the LEGO Ideas Review Board evaluated 49 innovative and stunning product ideas that reached 10,000 supporters between early May 2023 and early September 2023, and they picked 2 of them to become official LEGO sets.
The first one is the LEGO Minifigure Prize Machine by LEGO fan Rob Vangansewinkel (a.k.a. Goosestore). This was such a fun and unexpected way of using LEGO bricks. Rob’s creation includes a completely new way of bringing surprise and delight and makes this both an iconic display piece but also a functional minifigure mystery machine. If you’d like to learn more about Rob Vangansewinkel then make sure to check out his 10K Club Interview. The LEGO Ideas team also announced that they will include a variety of fun minifigures in this upcoming set, including brand-new ones. And to involve more LEGO fans, they will run two separate fan votes to determine a new color for a LEGO Classic Space minifigure color and a new LEGO Castle faction emblem. They will provide options for both categories and kick off the fan votes as soon as they are ready.
The second new LEGO Ideas set is going to be the LEGO Western River Steamboat by LEGO fan Aaron Hall (a.k.a. CTDpower). This is an incredible build fully loaded with details that evoke an authentic steamboat experience. Aaron brought a lot of his personal experience to this model from growing up on the banks of the Mississippi to his background in architecture and designing homes to even working on a riverboat. Learn more about Aaron Hall and how his design came to be via his 10K Club Interview.
The LEGO Ideas Review Board was also impressed by the incredibly cute and super iconic Disney Pixar’s Luxo Jr Lamp created in LEGO bricks by T0BY1KENOBI25150. Despite this, they haven’t been able to tick off all the boxes needed to move forward with it and a further review is needed. The LEGO Ideas team will share an update on this project in the next review result announcement in the summer of 2024.
The LEGO Ideas team is also working its way through the next big round of 10K product ideas consisting of 42 submissions. These all hit 10,000 supporters between early September 2023 and early January 2024. They will share the results of the Third 2023 LEGO Review Period in the summer of 2024.
Now for the contest. To celebrate the release of LEGO DreamZzz Season 2 on May 17th, the LEGO Ideas team is calling upon the most imaginative dreamers to unleash their creativity and craft their very own LEGO DreamZzz diorama! Whether you draw inspiration from the fantastical scenes of the LEGO DreamZzz TV show or conjure up something entirely original from the depths of your DreamZzz imagination, this is your chance to bring your wildest dreams to life in brick form and also win awesome prizes.
If you are the Grand Prize Winner of this challenge, you’ll receive the following: #71469 LEGO DreamZzz Nightmare Shark Ship, #71476 LEGO DreamZzz Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl, #71475 LEGO DreamZzz Mr. Oz’s Space Car, #71472 LEGO DreamZzz Izzie’s Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon, #21318 LEGO Ideas Tree House, #71457 LEGO DreamZzz Pegasus Flying Horse, #71477 LEGO DreamZzz The Sandman’s Tower, #21342 LEGO Ideas The Insect Collection, #71459 LEGO DreamZzz Stable of Dream Creatures, #21340 LEGO Ideas Tales of the Space Age, #71461 LEGO DreamZzz Fantastical Tree House. The entry deadline for this contest is May 30th at 6 am EST. For details and rules visit the LEGO DreamZzz Contest Page.
There is also a significant change to the LEGO Ideas Terms of Service. Starting from June 3rd, 2024, the minimum age to create or have a LEGO Ideas profile will be raised from 13 to 16 years old. In light of new social media laws emerging in different regions, the LEGO Ideas team is making these changes to ensure that LEGO Ideas remains a safe, inspiring, and legally compliant platform for our younger LEGO fans. If you’re a member under the age of 16 by June 3rd, your LEGO Ideas profile will be closed on June 3rd. If you’re 16 or older after June 3rd, you don’t need to take any action. Your profile will not be affected by any of these changes. Also, because of this change, under 16 users’ submissions and comments will be deleted on June 3rd. If you want to keep a copy of your submission(s), you can save or download your pictures until June 2nd. On the other hand, any product ideas supported by users under 16 will not lose votes. If you have any questions or concerns about this update, please look at this Q&A for more information.

They should make the Pixar lamp. In fact, I’m surprised they haven’t done it before.
The steam boat looks unique and interesting. I’m really curious to see the finalized model.
Wow, we can pick our own space minifig and castle emblem? How exciting! Are they going to give us options for designs and colors?
Interesting, although probably not enough for me to buy the whole set. I need to consider my time, space and funds, so I might possibly get the space minifig separately. (Although due to nostalgia, I’m more of a Futuron guy, to be honest…)
