Have you ever wanted to immerse yourself in a magazine choc-full of cool LEGO stuff? Well guess what? You can! If you are an avid LEGO-fan you have probably heard of the LEGO Club before. With over 4 million members all around the globe, the LEGO Club is one of the biggest and most popular children’s member clubs in the world.

The LEGO Club’s official mission-statement is “to entertain, connect and above all else to inspire the builders of tomorrow by helping them develop their creativity and imagination”. The LEGO Club is free to join for LEGO-fans of all ages (yep, that means adults too!). 🙂

When you join the LEGO Club, you can subscribe to the LEGO Club Magazine, and you also get access to the LEGO Club website, which is mostly geared towards kids, but it is fun to check out for adults as well.

Back to the LEGO Club Magazine, it is free in most countries. It is mailed to your home six times a year in the USA (January, March, May, July, September, and November). In Canada, the magazine will be mailed to your home five times a year (January, April, July, September, and November). In Australia and New Zealand membership isn’t free and they only get the magazine four times a year. (So sorry for our friends down under!) If you don’t want the magazine mailed to you, you can also read the USA and Canadian versions online.

The LEGO Club Magazine has two versions. First, there is LEGO Club Jr. for ages 6 and under. It is an easy-to-read and fully-illustrated magazine full of fun stories, challenges, comic adventures, puzzles, and activities designed to inspire, entertain and stimulate young children’s creativity. It is a bit too simple for older kids and adults, so I wouldn’t recommend subscribing if you are over the recommended age. But for younger kids it’s fun!

The regular version of the LEGO Club Magazine is for ages 7 and up, packs every issue full of LEGO news and behind-the-bricks interviews, comic adventures, games and puzzles, building-challenges and contests, cool creations built by LEGO fans, as well as sneak-peeks at the latest LEGO sets and LEGO themes.

One section of the LEGO Club Magazine that I really enjoy is Cool Creations. In every issue the magazine features 10 or so creations made by young LEGO fans. I really enjoy looking at this part because it shows things that other LEGO-maniacs have made. And the best part about the Cool Creations section is that you might get your very own LEGO creation featured if you mail in pictures and information to the magazine! You can also see many more LEGO creations online at the Cool Creation section of the LEGO Club website.

Another part of the magazine that I have fun with is the comics. In every issue there is a new comic about LEGO Star Wars. They can be really funny. Sometimes the magazine also features other comics from different LEGO themes, but you can always look forward to at least a LEGO Star Wars comic.

A lot of times the LEGO Club Magazine will include contests. Most of the time they are building contests where you have to build some new vehicle or something for a certain theme, at other times it will be drawing contests, or just have to answer some questions. The great thing about the contests is the prizes! Sometimes LEGO will give away LEGO Gift Cards, LEGO sets or LEGO video-games. I remember one time when one of the prizes included a new Xbox 360! 🙄

And there are many other features of the LEGO Club Magazine I haven’t gone into, but the point is that magazine is really fun, and you can spend quite a bit of enjoyable time flipping through it. I would highly recommend it to older kids, teens and even adults. If you would like to sign up you can go to the LEGO Club Magazine Subscription page.

If you already subscribed to the LEGO Club Magazine feel free to share how you like it and which is your favorite section! And if you haven’t subscribed yet and you have some questions don’t be shy to ask! 😉

Also, I’m a TFOL (Teen-Fan-of-LEGO) and this is my second article here. I hope you enjoyed it! If you like, you can check out my previous post, LEGO Minifigures are More Than Little People. Feedback is welcome!

LEGO apps for virtual LEGO fun!

(Written by Nathan K. – ntk743)

There are many ways to enjoy the LEGO hobby, and when you are away from your LEGO bricks one way you can continue playing is though LEGO apps. LEGO now has over 18 LEGO apps at the App Store. With a bunch of different themes, there should be at least one app that should meet your needs and provide loads of fun! Below I will share with you some of my favorite LEGO apps to give you an idea what is available:

LEGO Ninjago Rise of the Snakes LEGO App: Help the ninja of Ninjago battle the evil serpentine in this new game based on last year’s Ninjago: Spinjitzu Scavenger Hunt! This app is designed for both the iPhone and iPad, and is really fun! And it is free! See more details here: LEGO Ninjago Rise of the Snakes at the Apple Store

  • Spin your way to victory in daily battle-challenges from warriors from all over the LEGO universe
  • Fight as Kai, Cole, Jay, Zane and all your other favorite Ninjago characters
  • Collect spinners, blades, shields and weapons to build the most powerful ninja in the world
  • Challenge your friends to a duel against your ultimate ninja
  • Explore 6 different battle-arena to unlock their secrets
  • Fight against more than 75 challengers

LEGO Hero Factory LEGO App: The free Hero Factory app is basically a demo version of the web-based LEGO Hero Factory Breakout game, but it’s still fun. Designed for both the iPhone and iPad. Recommended ages 9+. More details here: LEGO Hero Factory at the Apple Store

  • A hideous collection of villains and monsters have broken out of a high security prison contained within and have fled to all corners of the galaxy
  • As the Heroes battle to capture the villains, it soon becomes apparent that the breakout is merely a way to distract the Heroes from the actions of the evil Black Phantom. He has stayed behind to destroy the Assembly Tower and has triggered an automatic shutdown of our core systems
  • During combat, keep an eye out for weapon upgrades and collectables to boost your firepower and gain access to secret areas. Keep collecting and you could be rewarded with achievement codes for use in the full game
  • Good luck – we are all relying on you…

LEGO Monster Fighters Race LEGO App: This is another free app by LEGO that is really fun. Lord Vampyre has gotten away with a valuable moonstone putting him one step closer to his dream of eclipsing the sun. He’s jumped into his hearse and is speeding away — the moonstone will be gone forever unless you can stop him! Designed for both the iPhone and iPad. Learn more here: LEGO Monster Fighters Race at the Apple Store

  • Hunt down the evilest monsters in all of Monsterland in this high-speed chase to save the sunlight!
  • Play as all of your favorite Monster Fighters racing on four different courses
  • Are you quick enough to dodge the bats and spiders that The Werewolf summons to attack you?
  • Are you agile enough to keep your car on course as your chase the mad scientist through hairpin turns?
  • Are you fast enough to catch Lord Vampyre?
  • Show off your skills as the fastest monster catcher in town!

LEGO Super Heroes Movie Maker App: We have talked about this LEGO app before (see here: LEGO Movie Maker Contest) and many of you have tried it out already. Simple tools and guides make it easy to shoot, edit, even score your movie with music. Add one of the customizable title cards and share it online and who knows, you may have the next summer blockbuster in your hands…literally! Works on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices with camera. This app is also free. Read more here: LEGO Super Heroes Movie Maker at the Apple Store

  • Add and delete frames to your movie
  • Choose from 5 different soundtracks
  • Add a color-filter to the camera
  • Customize one of 11 different title LEGO Super Heroes cards
  • Save your movie to your camera roll then share with your friends

These are some of my favorite LEGO apps, but there is more! And LEGO is adding new ones all the time! If you would like to check them out, you can browse the Apple Store for more LEGO apps. On your Apple device you can just go to the App Store or iTunes, click on the search box, and type in THE LEGO GROUP. Download the apps you want!
