LEGO designer Chris McVeigh was well known for his delightful LEGO Christmas decorations and other models even before he started working for the LEGO company a couple of years ago (you can find his earlier projects on his website, chrismcveigh.com). Since he was hired by LEGO, he worked on the LEGO Brick Sketches series (which is a project he started even before he became a LEGO designer), the #10278 LEGO Creator Expert Police Station (the latest in the LEGO Modular Building Series), and the #10289 LEGO Bird of Paradise (from the LEGO Botanical Collection). And Chris also designed two of the LEGO Winter Village sets, the #10275 LEGO Winter Village Elf Club House from last year, and the newly released #10293 LEGO Winter Village Santa’s Visit from this year.

We already talked about the latest of the LEGO Winter Village collection (see: LEGO Winter Village Santa’s Visit Press-Release). But to recap, this set adds another festively decorated building to the beloved series, and it’s all about a family waiting in anticipation for Santa’s arrival.

The house measures over 7.5 in. (19 cm) high, 10.5 in. (27 cm) wide, and 6.5 in. (16 cm) deep. It has a unique layout with the front folding inward at the front, which really opens up the play area at the back. There is room for a full kitchen, a dining area, a living room with a large fireplace, a loft bedroom for the little girl, and more.

There are lots of little play features and accessories both inside and outside, but the two main features are that Santa can actually slide down the chimney and that the Christmas tree can light up. In the video below, LEGO designer Chris McVeigh and LEGO graphic designer Matt Parson will show you the set in great detail.

The #10293 LEGO Winter Village Santa’s Visit set is already available for LEGO VIP members, and the regular release will be on October 1st. The price is $99.99, which is the usual price for most of the LEGO Winter Village sets. If you would like to purchase the set and the earlier LEGO Winter Village sets, visit the LEGO Creator Expert section of the Online LEGO Shop.

A set that would go really well with the #10293 LEGO Winter Village Santa’s Visit is the also newly released #40499 LEGO Santa’s Sleigh. We talked about this set in detail at LEGO Santa’s Sleigh & The Evolution of LEGO Reindeer.

Also, I wanted to bring to your attention that the Holiday section of the Online LEGO Shop is already open. This is a special section of the website which is especially helpful for people who don’t use the site as often. It has a Holiday Gift Finder based on age and interests, as well as helpful articles. You can find it at all at the Holiday section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Although we’re still a few months away from Christmas, time flies, so it’s a good idea to start building your Christmas shopping list. What do you think? How do you like the latest LEGO Winter Village set? Are you planning to add it to your collection? And what else is going on your Christmas shopping list? LEGO Ideas Build Your Own Microgame Contest

For the next LEGO Ideas contest titled “LEGO Ninjago + One-Button Digital Game using the LEGO Microgame”, the LEGO Ideas team is putting some arcade cabinets into LEGO retail stores. They would love to have you showcase your own game creations on them!

Both Unity and the LEGO Group have been hard at work improving the tools from the submissions and feedback from the last LEGO Ideas competition to help make it easier and more fun to make a game, and most importantly easier to share the fun you have made with others. There is an arcade cabinet in the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark at the moment, and the LEGO Ideas team will be announcing some of the other global locations shortly.

The LEGO Ideas team has also been working closely with the LEGO Ninjago team to help develop a library of resources and inspirations to spark your imagination. Want to know what makes a great LEGO Ninjago game, visit the LEGO Ideas contest page and watch the video with the LEGO Ninjago Design Lead. There are three different categories for the competition:

  • A LEGO Ninjago-themed game. Be Ninja!
  • A game with a theme of your choice. What is one-button fun to you (use of third-party IPs is NOT allowed)?
  • A game made only with LEGO behavior-bricks, so no additional scripting.

If you are in doubt about whether to participate in the next LEGO Ideas contest – visit the LEGO Microgame page today to learn more. The LEGO Ideas team cannot wait to see your amazing game creations!

For more information, please look out for the announcement on the LEGO Ideas blog, where you can ask questions. To participate in the contest, please visit the contest page.

What do you think? Have you played with the LEGO Microgame creator? And what do you think of the contest? Are you planning to participate? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
