LEGO Ideas Vintage Car Coming & More!

As you may remember from our previous discussion (see links at the end of this post), LEGO recently ran a contest challenging LEGO fans to design a vintage car that would fit with the LEGO Modular Buildings. There were a great number of entries, and after the judges narrowed them down to fifteen, the fan community had a chance to vote for their favorite. The grand prize winner will receive a large number of awesome LEGO sets, and also get the opportunity to have their model turned into the next official LEGO gift-with-purchase set. Five runner-up winners are also going to receive some goodies as mentioned in the contest details.

Yesterday, LEGO announced that from the fifteen finalists, the grand prize winner is Aedelsten Deluxe by Versteinert with 1,449 fan votes. Congratulations to the winner! Their model is fantastic, and I can’t wait to see it becoming an official LEGO set! (You can read the full announcement, along with the list of runner-up winners here.)

Although there is only one model from all the entries that will be turned into an official LEGO set, if you like vintage cars, you might want to check out the other entries as well for inspiration. There are vintage delivery trucks including a milk truck, ice cream truck, and even a LEGO delivery truck, as well as classic style police cars, roadsters, pickups, convertibles, and more. Their styles and designs can you ideas for building your own classic cars for your city layout. You can find the contest entries here.

Several of the LEGO Modular Buildings come with classic style vehicles as well, so even if you don’t have them, you can download the set instructions and use them to build your own classic cars. The #10197 LEGO Creator Fire Brigade has a very nice 1930s style fire truck, the #10232 LEGO Creator Palace Cinema includes a fancy black limousine, the #10260 LEGO Creator Downtown Diner features a stylish pink convertible, and the #10264 LEGO Creator Corner Garage comes with a classic tow truck. The LEGO Winter Village collection is another great source of classic style vehicles, including a vintage mail truck, snow plough, bus, fire truck, and even a steam-powered train. So check them out, and happy building!

What do you think? How do you like the winning model of the contest? Did you participate either by entering your own car or by voting? Which one of the other entries do you like and would like to build? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

LEGO Innovation Intake Portal Now Open

Lead User Lab is a new initiative by LEGO to capture project and product ideas from the LEGO fan community, evaluate their potential, and bring them to life in new ways. Since the initial announcement back in June, the Lead User Lab team has been assembled, they held their first interactive event with the LEGO fan community in Billund, and they also asked for feedback on some potential ideas via a survey. You can learn more about Lead User Lab and the progress made so far via the links at the end of this post.

The Lead User Lab team recently announced that they now have the Innovation Intake Portal website open. Please note that this is a test phase for the site before the full launch, but you can already play with it and make submissions. This website is going to become the go-to portal when somebody wants to submit a proposal. It is designed to capture, filter, and enable great ideas and initiatives to be shared effectively with the LEGO Group. Through the portal, the Lead User Lab team will try to ensure that proposals reach the right departments at the LEGO Group in the most effective way possible. This way, it will save both LEGO fans and the LEGO Group time, and make the process hassle-free.

Over the coming months, the Lead User Lab team will experiment with the soft launch of the site, assess how it performs, and then will decide the next steps on how to scale and promote it beyond the adult LEGO fan community.

When you visit the Innovation Intake Portal, you are welcomed by the LEGO Chat Bot. By answering the bots questions, you are guided to the right direction within the LEGO Company. For example, if you have an idea for a new LEGO set, you will get directed to the LEGO Ideas platform, where you can submit your idea. If you have a business idea, or you already have a product and would like to collaborate, you will be directed to the appropriate departments. Here is the link: LEGO INNOVATION INTAKE PORTAL

Those who submit ideas to the site should currently expect a follow-up within 4 weeks after submission is received. If you are just curious to test the site out without an actual submission, please leave a note in the submission itself that you’ve just been testing and playing around. That way the Lead User Lab team knows that you didn’t abandon the submission process due to some issues with the site.
