LEGO Xtra Christmas Accessories & More!

Last year, LEGO started a new line of accessories called LEGO Xtra. The collection includes sturdy cardboard playmats, stickers, and small accessory packs with interesting LEGO elements. We have reviewed many of the LEGO Xtra products previously (see links at the end of this post), so today we will only recap what’s available in the small accessory pack lineup, and also talk about the new Christmas-themed accessory pack that was released recently.

Five LEGO Xtra accessory packs were released in 2018. The #40309 LEGO-Xtra Food Accessories includes apples, carrots, bananas, croissants, fish, cookies, ice cream, chocolate bars, and even a full turkey. The #40310 LEGO Xtra Botanical Accessories features trees, bushes, plant leaves, flower stems, flowers, a couple of fence pieces, and some frogs. The #40311 LEGO Xtra Traffic Lights pack includes four traffic lights, garbage can, a red wheelbarrow, and some small accessories. The #40312 LEGO Xtra Streetlamps pack includes a couple of the rarer black street lamps, a bench, newspaper stand, smaller lamps, mailbox, and a few other items. The #40313 LEGO Xtra Bicycles pack features a couple of red bikes, a skateboard, helmets, a printed pizza box, bags, an umbrella, and more. All of these packs are super useful for expanding LEGO City dioramas and they only costs $3.99 each. They are available at the LEGO Xtra section of the Online LEGO Shop.

For 2019, we only got two new packs. The #40341 LEGO Xtra Sea Accessories was released for the summer with a shark, fish, shell, surfboard, diving and fishing gear, and some treasure. The newest pack is the #40368 LEGO Xtra Christmas Accessories with a brick-built snowman with a top hat, candy cane, and gift boxes, a husky, a small Christmas tree, a minifig beanie, a white tree branch, a trans-blue ice crystal, snowshoes, a couple of decorative fences, and several other useful items. These are also $3.99 each and can be purchased at the LEGO Xtra section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO Classic is a great way to amass a large number of basic bricks, wheels, windows, doors, and other basic elements in a rainbow of colors. LEGO Xtra is similar, but with accessories. So far, all the accessory packs come with pieces that are most useful for modern city builders, although some of the packs like the food and botanical accessories could be used in other settings and time periods as well. I do hope that LEGO will consider releasing accessory packs for other themes, and that they release new packs more frequently. Five packs in 2018 was nice, but only two in 2019 is a bit disappointing. The good thing though is that all seven packs are still available, and the limit on them is 50 per household, so you can get plenty for your customizing needs.

What do you think? Do you have any of the LEGO Xtra packs? Which do you find the most useful? And what other accessory packs would you like to see in the future? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

A few days ago, I shared some really cute Halloween pumpkins and Gingerbread houses by LEGO fan Chad Parker (see: LEGO Halloween Pumpkins & Gingerbread Houses). Since then, Chad also built a Halloween version of the newly released #10267 LEGO Creator Gingerbread House. Check it out below and let me know how you like it.

The #10267 LEGO Creator Gingerbread House comes with brown walls to mimic gingerbread, white frosted roofs and wood frame, colorful candy decorations throughout, and translucent pink and purple windows. There is also a brick-built Christmas tree, and lots of sweet little accessories.

To give the gingerbread house a Halloween feel, Chad replaced the brown walls with tan, the white frosted roofs and wood frame with brown, and the green and red Christmas decorations with orange, black, and lime-green (for slime). Even the stained glass windows were changed to translucent orange and purple. Chad also built additional trees based on the design of the Christmas tree in the set, but in orange, black, and white. And of course, there are spiders, bats, pumpkins, and candy corn everywhere.

The original function that allows you to push the smoke puff at the top of the chimney to turn on the light in the hearth was kept, but some of the decorations were changed. Notice, for example, that the smoke puff was replaced with candy corn, and a translucent orange panel in the shape of a pumpkin was inserted, which glows when the hearth is lit.

Such an awesome project, isn’t it? Even just changing the colors of a LEGO set can make such a big difference, and it’s an activity the whole family can enjoy. If you would like to see more pictures, visit Chad’s Facebook page, and if you are interested to build your own gingerbread house for Halloween, the #10267 LEGO Creator Gingerbread House is available at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the Halloween-themed gingerbread house? Are you planning to build anything for the holidays yourself? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
