Guide to LEGO-scabbard compatible swords

by admin on May 26, 2011

in Reviews & Comparisons

LEGO has finally come out with a scabbard, so minifigs can tuck away their swords when they are not fighting! This is great news, however the new scabbard is not compatible with all minifig-size swords; some are too long or too wide to fit, or their shape and curve may not be compatible with the scabbard’s design.

Therefore I have put together this guide to show which swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard, and which ones are not. This list also includes swords made by all major customizers.

SWORDS MADE BY LEGO:

The following LEGO swords are NOT compatible with the LEGO scabbard:

I have to say I was quite disappointed that the little dagger (on the far left) did not fit! It has a nice size and shape, but unfortunately it is too thick to slip into the scabbard. The fencing-sword won’t fit because of the round tip. And the rest of the swords pictured here are  much too large.

The following LEGO swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard:

As you can see these swords fit really nicely. The silver-chrome greatsword is a bit tight, so I would be concerned that it might put too much stress on the scabbard.

However the other swords (and the two little knifes) fit perfectly!

SWORDS MADE BY BRICKFORGE:

The following BrickForge swords are NOT compatible with the scabbard:

These swords are all either too wide or too thick to fit the LEGO scabbard.

The following BrickForge swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard:

All of these Brickforge swords fit the LEGO scabbard nicely, although some the longswords are a tad tight and a bit too long to carry in a scabbard.

I especially like the Wizard Sword (first picture) as the size fits the minifig really well.

SWORDS MADE BY LITTLE ARMORY:

All Little Armory swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard:

From all of the swords I have tried (both LEGO and custom) Little Armory’s swords fit the very best! They glide in smoothly and fit securely. Also, besides the giant greatsword, all the swords are a perfect fit for minifigs to carry at their side!

SWORDS MADE BY BRICKARMS:

The following BrickArms swords are NOT compatible with the scabbard:

I was hoping that the Tactical Sword will fit, but as you can see; it is much too loose in the scabbard.

The following BrickArms swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard:

Although the Claymore does fit the scabbard it is much too long to carry. However the smaller Damien Blade (first picture) fits – although pretty loose. The machete (on the last picture) is a perfect fit!

SWORDS MADE BY SIDAN TOYS:

All Sidan Toys swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard:

The sword on the left fits the LEGO scabbard perfectly. It also has a really nice shape and balance. A very nice little sword! The two longer katanas are quite loose in the scabbard, however the shortest one fits nicely.

SWORDS MADE BY BRICKTW:

None of the BrickTW swords are compatible with the LEGO Scabbard:

There you have it! Although not all minifig swords will fit the new LEGO scabbard, as you can see there are plenty of options if you want to give your minifig a blade at their side! :P

That’s a great guide! I love the new scabbard – I say it’s about time! For the bucket, too, and the bottle. Boy, I just love all the new minifigure accessories in the new Pirates of the Caribbean and Kingdoms sets.

Will and I bought two extra copies of the Blacksmith Attack because of the new smaller, rubbery weapons. They’re so detailed, though not as high of quality as the normal weapons. I’ll have to see whether the sword or dagger fit into the scabbard – I bet they do because they’re smaller.

Sarah, yep, these new sets are full of parts that are a pure win! I will update the guide when I get those little swords from the new sets. I hope they will fit! ;)

Thank you very much for doing this!

It is a huge help when it comes to buying which swords to fit the scabbard!

Keep up the good blogging!

You are welcome, Henry! It was important for me, so I though it might help someone else as well. ;)

Brickforge has come a long way! They used to have a more home-made feel years back, but their products in the past couple of years have been really off the charts!
I think they switched over to computer generated designs from hand-made molds. In any case, I have been very impressed with my last few orders!

UPDATE: I have added four more swords to the guide above; the little sword and the new knife from the Kingdoms set (both fit perfectly!), and the Tactical Sword (eh…doesn’t fit!) and machete (perfect!) from BrickArms. Enjoy! :P

The little armory swords look incracible! The second best fit seems to be brickforge. Brickarms is kind of disappointing. And that sidan toys sword is epic! I have never seen it before!

Lolego, unfortunately I do not have the BrickArms combat knife or scalpel. If I ever get them I will add them to this review. :)

This review is about swords and other blades, but I could do a separate one on guns as well. Although I can tell you right now, must of them would not fit as the opening on the scabbard is quite narrow. The gun would have to be as thin as a blade to fit.

Also I thought guys carried their guns in holsters not scabbards. But I guess minifigs can do anything. ;)

The ninjago zx scabbard on their shoulder pads are pretty good too for two swords.

That is a really good point! The Ninjago scappards came out after I wrote this post, but yeah, it is a great piece! :)

Wondering if you’ve done the same tests with the Ninjago scabbards (also know as “Scabbard for Two Katanas” (see http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=88290 )?

I’m thinking some modification would be needed to allow it to accept swords bigger than a katana.

Dave, when I have done this test the Ninjago double-scabbard was not yet released. It is basically the same size/shape as the Prince of Persia double-scabbard. Besides the regular LEGO katana they can’t hold a whole lot more as the whole is small and thin. The Sidan Toys katanas of course work fine. Also, the BrickArms great-sword clips in quite nicely and some of the Little Armory swords (as they tend to have thin blades). The BrickArms Tactical Sword also fits, but it is very loose. It would actually be a good idea to do another tutorial on the double katanas. ;)

It fits nicely in the side-scabbard, but not the double scabbard worn on the back. I just tried. ;)
