Guide to LEGO-scabbard compatible swords

LEGO has finally come out with a scabbard, so minifigs can tuck away their swords when they are not fighting! This is great news, however the new scabbard is not compatible with all minifig-size swords; some are too long or too wide to fit, or their shape and curve may not be compatible with the scabbard’s design.  Therefore I have put together this guide to show which swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard, and which ones are not. This list also includes swords made by all major customizers.

SWORDS MADE BY LEGO: The following LEGO swords are not compatible with the LEGO scabbard: I have to say I was quite disappointed that the little dagger (on the far left) did not fit! It has a nice size and shape, but unfortunately it is too thick to slip into the scabbard. The fencing-sword won’t fit because of the round tip. And the rest of the swords pictured here are  much too large.

The following LEGO swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard: As you can see these swords fit really nicely. The silver-chrome greatsword is a bit tight, so I would be concerned that it might put too much stress on the scabbard. However the other swords (and the two little knifes) fit perfectly!

SWORDS MADE BY BRICKFORGE: The following BrickForge swords are not compatible with the scabbard: These swords are all either too wide or too thick to fit the LEGO scabbard.

The following BrickForge swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard: All of these Brickforge swords fit the LEGO scabbard nicely, although some the longswords are a tad tight and a bit too long to carry in a scabbard. I especially like the Wizard Sword (first picture) as the size fits the minifig really well.

SWORDS MADE BY LITTLE ARMORY: All Little Armory swords are compatible with the LEGO sabbard. From all of the swords I have tried (both LEGO and custom) Little Armory’s swords fit the very best! They glide in smoothly and fit securely. Also, besides the giant greatsword, all the swords are a perfect fit for minifigs to carry at their side!

SWORDS MADE BY BRICKARMS: The following BrickArms swords are not compatible with the scabbard: I was hoping that the Tactical Sword will fit, but as you can see; it is much too loose in the scabbard.

BlankBlank

The following BrickArms swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard: Although the Claymore does fit the scabbard it is much too long to carry. However the smaller Damien Blade (first picture) fits – although pretty loose. The machete (on the last picture) is a perfect fit!

SWORDS MADE BY SIDAN TOYS: All Sidan Toys swords are compatible with the LEGO scabbard: The sword on the left fits the LEGO scabbard perfectly. It also has a really nice shape and balance. A very nice little sword! The two longer katanas are quite loose in the scabbard, however the shortest one fits nicely.

Blank

SWORDS MADE BY BRICKTW: None of the BrickTW swords are compatible with the LEGO Scabbard:

There you have it! Although not all minifig swords will fit the new LEGO scabbard, as you can see there are plenty of options if you want to give your minifig a blade at their side! 😛

That’s a great guide! I love the new scabbard – I say it’s about time! For the bucket, too, and the bottle. Boy, I just love all the new minifigure accessories in the new Pirates of the Caribbean and Kingdoms sets.

Will and I bought two extra copies of the Blacksmith Attack because of the new smaller, rubbery weapons. They’re so detailed, though not as high of quality as the normal weapons. I’ll have to see whether the sword or dagger fit into the scabbard – I bet they do because they’re smaller.

Sarah, yep, these new sets are full of parts that are a pure win! I will update the guide when I get those little swords from the new sets. I hope they will fit! 😉

Thank you very much for doing this!

It is a huge help when it comes to buying which swords to fit the scabbard!

    Keep up the good blogging!

You are welcome, Henry! It was important for me, so I though it might help someone else as well. 😉

Great tutorial! Thanks for this! Very helpful!

    Nice review! Thanks!

Brickforge has come a long way! They used to have a more home-made feel years back, but their products in the past couple of years have been really off the charts!
I think they switched over to computer generated designs from hand-made molds. In any case, I have been very impressed with my last few orders!

Me too! I really like BrickForge! 😛

  • admin June 9, 2011, 2:27 PM

UPDATE: I have added four more swords to the guide above; the little sword and the new knife from the Kingdoms set (both fit perfectly!), and the Tactical Sword (eh…doesn’t fit!) and machete (perfect!) from BrickArms. Enjoy! 😛

The little armory swords look incracible! The second best fit seems to be brickforge. Brickarms is kind of disappointing. And that sidan toys sword is epic! I have never seen it before!

  • lolego July 26, 2011, 11:00 AM

dude, wheres the brickarms combat knife and scalpel :p

also, i would LOVE to see if a brickarms gun fits, i know a few fit!

    • admin July 26, 2011, 11:51 AM

Lolego, unfortunately I do not have the BrickArms combat knife or scalpel. If I ever get them I will add them to this review. 🙂

This review is about swords and other blades, but I could do a separate one on guns as well. Although I can tell you right now, must of them would not fit as the opening on the scabbard is quite narrow. The gun would have to be as thin as a blade to fit.

Also I thought guys carried their guns in holsters not scabbards. But I guess minifigs can do anything. 😉

The ninjago zx scabbard on their shoulder pads are pretty good too for two swords.

    • admin April 2, 2012, 11:48 AM

That is a really good point! The Ninjago scappards came out after I wrote this post, but yeah, it is a great piece! 🙂

  • Dave August 17, 2012, 6:42 PM

Wondering if you’ve done the same tests with the Ninjago scabbards (also know as “Scabbard for Two Katanas” (see https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=88290 )?

I’m thinking some modification would be needed to allow it to accept swords bigger than a katana.

    • admin August 17, 2012, 9:15 PM

Dave, when I have done this test the Ninjago double-scabbard was not yet released. It is basically the same size/shape as the Prince of Persia double-scabbard. Besides the regular LEGO katana they can’t hold a whole lot more as the whole is small and thin. The Sidan Toys katanas of course work fine. Also, the BrickArms great-sword clips in quite nicely and some of the Little Armory swords (as they tend to have thin blades). The BrickArms Tactical Sword also fits, but it is very loose. It would actually be a good idea to do another tutorial on the double katanas. 😉

Can Roman Gladius short sword fit in classic scabbard ?

    • admin March 11, 2013, 9:14 AM

It fits nicely in the side-scabbard, but not the double scabbard worn on the back. I just tried. 😉

      • hey March 11, 2013, 9:33 AM

Thank you very much,i only need for side scabbard 🙂

  • Andrew Fisher November 25, 2013, 11:43 PM

Hey, I saw that you have a historically accurate three-lobed viking sword that I cannot find anywhere else except for one picture on google images. I am dying to know where you got it at.

    • admin November 25, 2013, 11:48 PM

Andrew, are you talking about this one? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=48495 It’s a very common LEGO sword available in many colors. 😉

      • Andrew Fisher November 26, 2013, 5:46 PM

I was asking about the one that you have between the bronze colored sword and the Zweihander (big German great sword with the razors on the blade). It has the three lobed pommel and a blood groove in the blade, just like a real classic viking sword.

        • admin November 26, 2013, 8:42 PM

Andrew, oh, that one! Yeah, that’s made by Little Armory. Little Armory makes beautiful, and historycally accurate swords. As far as I know they are no longer in business, but you can still find their products on the secondary market. I also have a large selection of them myself. They are very nice. 🙂

  • Andrew Fisher November 26, 2013, 10:31 PM

Nuts, that’s what I was afraid to hear. I’ve been trying the resellers but there is unfortunately nothing on ebay or bricklink. But thanks for the info.

  • lokidragon February 29, 2016, 11:46 AM

Hey admin, I noticed that Brickwarriors’s swords are not represented and they’re one of the largest customizers. can you update the article?

    • admin February 29, 2016, 11:59 AM

BrickWarriors didn’t exist when I wrote this article. But they are one of my most favorite customizers. Their weapons are quite chunky and I don’t think any of their bladed weapons fit the official LEGO scabbard. I just tried out a bunch of them, and nope, they didn’t fit. Not even tightly.

  • Kristinn April 4, 2016, 4:16 PM

Hi. I stumbled upon this article searching for how the Lego Gladius would fit in the scabbard, but obviously it didn’t exist back when you made the article. It would be interesting to see how all the newer swords (gladius, longsword, Sting) fit.

    • admin April 4, 2016, 4:24 PM

Kristinn, I just tried it out for you. All three blades you mentioned (gladius, longsword, and Sting) fits just fine with the LEGO scabbard. LEGO is pretty good at keeping their accessories compatible. 🙂

      • Kristinn April 6, 2016, 7:55 AM

        Thank you!

        • admin April 6, 2016, 10:08 AM

          You’re very welcome, Kristinn. 🙂

  • LegoMyLego July 16, 2020, 1:43 PM

This guide is super helpful… any chance you could do some for the other scabbard-type items? In particular, the Ninjago body wear pieces? It’s really hit and miss with what swords will fit in which sheath, designed to hold the katanas but variable in capacity.

    • Thita (admin) July 16, 2020, 4:58 PM

Yeah, I know what you mean! I could take a look at writing up something, but I don’t have all the new armor pieces. Next time I plate an order on BrickLink, I can try to get some. 🙂

  • Sam April 29, 2021, 3:53 PM

Does the new short sword work with this?

    • Sam April 29, 2021, 3:58 PM

I also forgot to ask if some of the longer swords work, like the lotr sword and the brand new sword

      • Thita (admin) April 30, 2021, 3:37 PM

Some of the swords fit a little tight, but yes, generally they do work. 🙂

        • Sam May 1, 2021, 4:51 PM

          Thanks, this will really help!
