The first pictures of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 8 are now available, thanks to the French LEGO blog HothBricks (thanks, Nick, for the link!). All right, so let’s see what we got here! 🙂
First of all there is the package to identify the Collectible Minifigures Series 8 ; this time it is black, which means that the retail-box for a set of 60 minifigures is going to be black too (no picture of the full box yet). You can see a partial view of eight of the minifigs.
And now let’s check out the group-shot of all 16 minifigures in the series. (You can click on the picture for a larger view.)
Below is the list of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 8, starting with the front row, and going from left to right:
- Cowgirl – nice hair & hat combo!
- DJ – love the headphones!
- Vampire Bat – black version of the LEGO Monster Fighters bat.
- Deep-Sea Diver – great big helmet!
- Pirate Captain – usual hook-handed, peg-legged bad-guy.
- Female Skier – don’t we already have enough of these? 🙁
- Santa – cute new hat and bag!
- Hamlet – to be, or not to be? – this minifig is definitely a “to be”.
- Business-Man/Banker – okay, I guess… nothing special.
- American Football Player – same helmet as the hockey-player.
- Cheer-Leader – finally, someone to cheer the other guys!
- Alien Queen – yes, she has lipstick on! 🙄
- Conquistador – one of the nicest minifigs in this series!
- Evil Robot – evil version of the robot from Series 1.
- Bavarian Guy – love that pretzel!
- Fairy – sweet, andthose wings are going to be very useful!

Although the LEGO Minifigures Series 8 suppose to come out in September, a BrickLink member from Sweden was able to snatch up the whole series in a local store that put them up for sale early (probably by accident). Here is a picture of the whole collection:

In general I would say I like this minifigure series. It is not as dazzling as some of the previous series, however it does provide some nice minifigs that would be useful in quite a few settings.
I’m planning to get the DJ (my favorite!), the Bavarian, the Conquistador, Santa, the Fairy, the Cowgirl, Hamlet and three Cheer-Leaders. One thing I find disappointing is that on the first picture the Conquistador appears to have striped sleeves – which would have been a nice detail – however on the picture of the actual minifig, he has plain sleeves. 😐

To the minifigs, I mean.
These are pretty cool.
How lucky,its available in Sweden,I love the all,Cheerleader’s got some competition pretzel looks good and a magical partner for the genie. Love it! Love the Minifigures as usual. But you would sort of have to admit Lego is indeed running out of ideas quite quickly. But still,love it 🙂
I think they’re just trying to spread the ideas out. . . after all, it seems like they have already planned 6 other series, so they have to make sure they don’t use every thing up too fast! 😉
Does the diver have the really tall feet like from Woody or what?
Its just a 1×1 plate on each of his feet. They are supposed to represent the weights to keep bell divers heavy enough to walk on the ocean floor.
Oh, yeah, bell-divers! That’s what they are called! I was trying to remember what they are called when I was writing the post! 🙂
My least favorite is the skier. I love the fact the finally made a non-key-chain LEGO fairy, but it I wish the skirt actually matched the torso, and feels like they really wasted the potential on this one. The american footballer, though more realistic with a number printed on his armor feels kinda poor for an army builder, as there can only be one person with a specific number on the same team at a time.
My personal favorites are Santa, Barvarian, Playwright, Bell diver, the man with the bowler, and the alien (but only because she is in the same style and has the same logo as the aliens from Alien Conquest).
Overall not bad, but I feel they could do away with some of the rehashes. On the other hand, I can’t be the only one who thought it was interesting that the cheerleader has a red “A” on her shirt. I wonder if that was just coincidence or the designers sneaking stuff past the radar.
I think the problem with the skier is the lack of color-coordination. She should have purple on her pants. Personally, my least favorite is the Alien. 😀 I don’t like the fairy that much either. . . 😉

And yeah, the football-player is really lack-luster. The colors are boring and putting a number on him defeats the whole purpose of being able to build a whole team! 🙁

Oh, wait a second. Does it have something to do with this series being series 8 (since that’s pronounced aaghit – more or less)?
If you all don’t get the joke, you either need to read more classic literature, need to be a little older, or a little of both. The “joke” has nothing to with LEGO.

Just watch the movie “Easy A” with Emma Stone… they kinda explain it there pretty simply.
WEll, I don’t mind the number, but he really could have used a bit of blue on his torso or pants. At least, his shoulders shouldn’t have been yellow! 🙄

Arent some of these figs becoming a bit repetitive now? I mean a virtually similar robot to that of series 1. Another skier, cheerleader, diver etc.. Bit disappointing really. And did we really need another Santa Claus after the fairly recent Xmas set? 🙁 Come on LEGO 🙁 Very unimaginative. And no Ancient world figures this time? What about a Zeus with a thubderbolt? 😉 The Shakespearean figure is my favourite 🙂 A Queen Elizabeth, the first, would make a lovely fig 😉 And can we have a Medusa (with head of snakes hair) for the ancient figs 😉 Just my thoughts.

Yep, a bit boring. We did need another cheerleader, but I’m not sure why LEGO is so much in love with skiers. I also miss having some ancient characters this time. 😕
Haven’t there only been two skiers? 😕 And after all, the Conquistador not that recent 😀 . Although something like a Roman with a toga would have been nice – actually, I originally thought the “ancient thespis” (actor) would have been a greek minifig with a toga. But after all, we could use that cuff! 😉
Yeah, I also thought that “ancient thespis” referred to a Greek actor or something. Something from the time of Shakespeare is certainly not “ancient”, nor is a “thespis”. I don’t know who made up that name. That is why I renamed him Hamlet – which he obviously is with that skull! 😀
As far as skiers, we also had two snowboarders, which most people would put in the same category as the skier. Especially us folks who never even see snow except on television! 😉
Oh, yeah, I forgot about the snowboarders. Personally, I like the winter sports, but this skeir is a bit plain. . . she shouldn’t ahve white poles. 🙁

Actually, though I can’t be sure as the only loose picture is the one provided, but I think the robot is supposed to be a “Female” robot, due to the curvy printing. How that makes sense is beyond me. As for Santa, Its not som mauch another Santa as it is a perfect LEGO: a well done one with a printed torso, the newer beard and a new hat and sack is much better than the older “classic” LEGO Santa and worth making. I agree I would like to see a few more fantasy creature minifigs. I am not sure if LEGO would ever do Zeus though, as he is a religious. The merman may just be a merman and not Poseidon, and the Anubis figures (from Pharaohs Quest) I doubt were meant to represent the Anubis, mostly due to the inclusion of two of them in the largest set.

Thanks for the link, It helped to make me have more positive opinions on most of the figs. Still feel unsure about the robot, I did like series 1 head much more.

Queen Elizabeth would be cool. Hamelt’s ruff could be reused for Elizabethan figs.

Conquistodore is the best mini figure EVER! 😯 the Alain (I’m having a hard time spelling right now) stinks!
Alien Queen is cool, so is Conquistador and Pirate captain I can always use more robots. I also need Vampire bat, Hamlet, Diver, and fairy. Maybe Santa and Bavarian Guy.
I had no idea that the alien was supposed to be female. I honestly couldn’t have called that one. lol.
Of the minifigures I think I’m goingto want that DJ, Hamlet, and possibly that diver to recreate a certain mythbusters episode in Lego. 🙂

Seriously, with the Disney license, apart from Wall-e sets (please!) Lego should take on Disney Fairies. Girls would LOVE it and the Disney Fairies license seriously needs some quality toys.
