LEGO The Hobbit 2014 sets video-reviews

The new wave of LEGO The Hobbit sets are most likely the last wave of the LEGO The Hobbit line (and maybe even the end of the LEGO Lord of the Rings/LEGO The Hobbit theme). They are meant to coincide with the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies film in mid-December, which is the last in The Hobbit movie series. YouTube member just2good posted some really nice video-reviews on three of the new sets, so I thought to share them here, to give you an idea what they look like and what to look forward to. 🙂

If the contract had allowed it I think a big winner in the LOTR and Hobbit lines would have been battle packs, similar to the 2015 Chima ones also posted by just2good.

    2014 sets?

    • Håkan October 4, 2014, 10:52 AM

Yeah. These are 2014 sets. I haven’t found any info yet of Lego’s plans for either a traditional minifig fantasy or castle theme. Possibly LOTR fans could have some use of the parts from the Elves sets or the Ninjago buildings…

      • Håkan October 4, 2014, 10:53 AM

        Plans for 2015, that is.

  • Tom October 4, 2014, 11:16 AM

There are rumours of a 2015 castle exclusive but nothing concrete. Will probably get the Smaug set purely for him as I want him alongside my Hubgarian Horntail for a moc I’ve got in mind

Tom, hm… that’s interesting. Would love to see a Castle exclusive! My guess that would be next summer, so if it is true, we should be hearing something sometime in the spring.

      • Tom October 4, 2014, 5:27 PM

It would be lovely if we do but as there has been both royal joust and MMV recently I’m not convinced it will happen. Summer 2015 matches with what’s been mentioned on other sites but I’ve heard nothing concrete at all.

        • admin October 4, 2014, 5:31 PM

Yeah, an exclusive just by itself doesn’t make much sense. It is usually tied with a full Castle theme, and then an exclusive is released a bit later. I’m pretty sure Castle will return once the LOTR/Hobbit sets are done, but when that would be is just a guess from my part. We just have to keep our eyes open for any news. 🙂

  • I watched these about 2 weeks ago! 😀 They were really good! And I was really glad that the reviews were up for the sets! I can’t wait to get them myself! 😛

    • admin October 4, 2014, 5:23 PM

Yes, I was surprised to see that he had them up already. I think he mentioned he got them at Target. Some of the stores put them out early.

here is a review for the lonely mountain set done by THE BRICK SHOW!!!! 😛

These are nice sets, but really the only thing I really liked about The Hobbit and lord of the rings is the minifigs. So there not exactly something I REALLY want. But for the minifigures I find them very detailed and Awesome! I really want smaug but I’m not very interested in the set. Do you think there would be an individual sale somewhere? amazon, eBay, maybe?

    • Håkan October 4, 2014, 2:04 PM

Probably on BrickLink, given enough time. It would likely cost more than Smaug’s percentual part of the set, though.

      • ninja of stealth October 6, 2014, 1:25 PM

aw man! well, I guess I might just have to pass on smaug. thanks Hakan. 😀

    • Tom October 4, 2014, 5:30 PM

If your able to afford it and only want Smaug I’d look to buy the set as close to release and sell all the minifigs you dont want. I did this for both my helms deeps and got back about 75% of the cost. Alternatively do the same but try and pick it up at a 20-30% discount.

Advantage of selling close to release is lots of peoplw wont have the set yet so prices on ebay will be a bit higher.

      • admin October 4, 2014, 5:34 PM

That’s an excellent suggestion, and something I do myself at times. Also, I would add to what Tom said, that October to February is the busiest time for LEGO sales. This is because most people are indoors and have more time for their hobbies; browsing shopping, building, etc. If you are reselling minifigs or partial sets at this time, you will get buyers almost right away. 🙂

        • Tom October 5, 2014, 1:39 PM

Absolutely. I do exactly this and mainly sell from late October through late Jan (Christmas is my friend) which pays for the sets I actually want!

        • ninja of stealth October 6, 2014, 1:26 PM

that’s a good idea, buy it then sell the sets without smaug. I just might do that. Thanks guys! 😀

  • BLProductions October 5, 2014, 4:09 PM

At first I thought these weren’t that great (in fact I thought they were bad), but after watching the reviews I have to say that they are pretty nice. I’m putting the Battle of Five Armies set on my to-get list. 🙂
I’m still rather concerned about how the movie will go, by looking at these sets I guess that the Battle will be fought in Dale, not in the valley outside the Mountain’s front gate. The Dol Guldur battle will continue, with Galadriel coming about 78 years early. I see that the Attack on Lake Town will continue Tauriel’s orc-battle, with Bain and the black arrow (the specialty of which is driving me nuts). And the Witch King! Madness that he would be in Dol Guldur, when he’s supposed to be holding Sauron’s fort in Mordor (Minas Morgul). 😡 Sss-sss, chestnuts, chestnuts, precious! 😐

  • Meneldur October 16, 2014, 10:58 AM

I think the first wave of the Hobbit was the best. Although the Erebor and Battle of the Five Armies sets are amazing.
There was rumor of five new LOTR sets scheduled to come out this year. They had set details and everything. I don’t know what happened. I guess we can only hope the third wave has been moved to 2015.

    • admin October 16, 2014, 11:43 AM

Yes, I was wondering about those LOTR sets too. I don’t know if they were scraped, or scheduled for later, or were simply a false rumor… I hope they are true. 😕

      • Meneldur October 17, 2014, 8:39 AM

Same here. They sounded like awesome sets. They’ve totally skipped several major scenes! Like Minas Tirith, Mount Doom, and the Balrog.
