in LEGO Hobbit & LOTR

The long awaited second wave of the LEGO Lord of the Rings line is available, this time featuring sets from the upcoming The Hobbit movie. The LEGO The Hobbit sets are now listed at the Online LEGO Shop, and they should be also available at all LEGO retailers. Below is the list of LEGO The Hobbit sets and links to more pictures, details and to purchase at LEGO’s website. Just in time for Christmas! 😛

#79000 LEGO The Hobbit Riddles for the RingTrick Gollum and help Bilbo Baggins escape with the Ring! On the shores of an underground lake beneath the Misty Mountains, Bilbo Baggins, armed with Sting, discovers a magic ring that was recently lost by the creature Gollum. Use the reveal function to take the golden Ring! But beware – only Gollum, aboard his boat of Goblin skin and bones, knows the way out. Can our Hobbit hero solve the riddles asked by Gollum and escape to freedom with the Ring before Gollum realizes it’s gone? You decide as you build and recreate this famous scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Includes 2 minifigures: Bilbo Baggins and Gollum. Price: $9.99 – BUY HERE

Follow Fili the Dwarf and Kili the Dwarf deep into the dark and scary Mirkwood Forest on The Quest for The Lonely Mountain. Attack the heroes with 3 small spiders and 2 giant spiders with glow-in-the-dark eyes and trap them inside cocoon elements high up in the buildable tree. #79003 LEGO The Hobbit An Unexpected GatheringVisit Bilbo Baggins in his Hobbit home! Gandalf the Grey has invited the Dwarves to Bag End the Hobbit home of Bilbo Baggins. #79004 LEGO The Hobbit Barrel EscapeHelp the Dwarves escape from The Elvenking’s wine cellar dungeon! Help! The Mirkwood Elves have locked the Dwarves in The Elvenking’s palace dungeon! #79010 LEGO The Hobbit The Goblin King BattleRescue the Dwarves from the cave of The Goblin King! Save The Company of Dwarves! The goblins have captured the heroic Dwarves and imprisoned them deep inside their filthy caves. Help Gandalf the Grey sneak past The Goblin King and set them free! Discover the cave’s functions, secrets and hidden treasures as you fight your way to freedom by firing the catapult, collapsing the rope bridge, lifting the bucket crane, tipping the ladder and finding the map. Defeat The Goblin King in an epic underworld battle! And beware The Goblin King throne’s trapping function! Includes Gandalf the Grey and 7 minifigures exclusive to this building set: Dori the Dwarf, Nori the Dwarf, Ori the Dwarf, Goblin Scribe, 2 Goblin Soldiers and The Goblin King. Price: $99.99 – BUY HERE

And that is the full line-up of the LEGO The Hobbit sets! A wonderful selection for any Tolkien fan! My personal favorite is the #79003 Hobbit hole, and according to the reviews I have read, it is a favorite of everyone who had a chance to see it personally or build it already. If you can only buy one of the Hobbit sets, I would suggest this one. #79002 Attack of the Wargs is also very nice with a great selection of minifigures, a great looking tree and two Wargs! I’m not a big fan of the two smallest sets (#79000 & #79001), but the ones mentioned above and the largest ones (#79004 & #79010) are real winners! 😀

If you bought all of these… it would come out to $300. Wow.

Yeah, so better be reall good for Santa! BTW, I don’t think every LEGO set has to be bought. I don’t buy everything either. In fact I’m very selective and only buy sets I really-really like (in this case the Hobbit Hole), or the ones that are really good for parts. I leave the rest for others to enjoy. 😉

Not thrilled with a lot of these sets, though I’m sure I’ll get most of them. They have a bit of a cartoony feel to me. Like the orc king’s face. What’s up with that? And they are priced on the high side. None of these are close to the golden price per piece ratio.

LOVE the hobbit hole set though.

The Unexpected gathering and barrel escape both look nice, pieces especially – since I’m not at all interested in the minifigs, I might try to get them w/o minifigs – or try selling them! (I will be in the US next year, so it might be possible!)

I want Bag End and Attack of the Wargs but too close to Christmas. I’d want Riddle for the Ring if I didn’t already have Gollum. There are also at least two mini-fig polybags Mirkwood Elf Guard #30212 and Gandalf #30213.

I think I heard somewhere that it’s a different Gollum… though that could have been talking about something else. 😉

Yes, Gollum’s facial expression is different in the new Hobbit set. I actually like it better than the first one. Kinda cute! Evil cute. 🙄

Reply

admin November 27, 2012 at 8:28 PM

Yeah, I should have probably added those polybags, but since they are only available at Toys’R’Us, and not even at all locations it is probably better to just pick them up at BrickLink or something.

My understanding is that Barrel Escape is an exclusive set, so I believe it will only be available at LEGO stores, TRU and maybe Amazon.

Melissa January 1, 2013 at 4:26 PM

Hear tell it’s on eBay too (although those are usually markups). The goblin town set is rumored to be exclusive to Target, although it’s the one set I haven’t actually seen there yet.
