The LEGO Modular Building collection continues to be very popular with one new set added each year. Besides the official LEGO sets, LEGO fans themselves design and build their own custom Modular Buildings that are compatible with the series. Some of these custom builds are completely new creations, while others are alternate builds for either the official Modulars, or other LEGO sets.
Some LEGO fans share pictures and even instructions of their custom and alternate builds on their social media pages, own website, or Rebrickable.com. One website that is particularly interesting for fans of the LEGO Modular Buildings is Brickative.com, as the site’s sole focus is the Modulars. They provide downloadable building instructions for custom LEGO Modular Buildings as well as Modular street-compatible vehicles, landscaping modules, and more.
A recent category added to the Brickative.com website is called Alternate Builds. It features Modular Buildings that were made using pieces from official LEGO sets. Some of these are alternate builds for official LEGO Modular Buildings, while others are alternate builds for LEGO City, LEGO Creator, and LEGO Friends sets.
If you would like to build your own custom Modulars, alternate builds for existing LEGO sets are a great option. It eliminates the daunting task of searching for and purchasing parts individually. All you need is the official set and the downloadable instructions for the alternate build, and you’re ready to go! And of course, once the custom model is built, you can further tweak it to your liking with other pieces you may have.
If you’re interested, visit the Brickative.com website and look around their selection. And if you are missing some of the latest LEGO Modular Buildings, visit the LEGO Creator Expert section of the Online LEGO Shop.
What do you think? Do you collect the LEGO Modular Buildings? Have you ever built a custom Modular based on your own or someone else’s design? And what do you think of the alternate builds discussed here? Feel free to share in the comment section below!

Oh my, I want to build them all! There are some great designs here. I especially like hot Havana.
These are fantastic! I love the purple house and the one built from the castle. So awesome.
I visited this website before, but I think now they have more designs. Weirdly, I have seen some of these designs sold by clone brands too. Like a couple of the Havana buildings and the Victorian corner shop.
Some of the clone brands have pretty low scruples regarding designers and amateur builders.
Wow! I love these! Thanks for posting! I really like the alternate builds!
Some of these buildings are truly spectacular. There are some really talented designers/builders out there in the Lego universe.
