LEGO “Crazy Life” music-video by Home Free

Our favorite LEGO stop-motion animator Kevin Ulrich from the BrotherhoodWorkshop just sent me over a link to one of his most recent videos, and as I really liked it I thought to share it with you as well. I have also included the behind-the-scenes look at how the video was made, as those are always very interesting. Enjoy! 🙂

LEGO Stop Motion Video by the Brotherhood Workshop

This LEGO stop-motion animation was done as the official music-video for the song “Crazy Life” by Home Free, the a cappella group of five super talented guys who won the fourth season of The Sing-Off competition on NBC in 2013. So besides another great LEGO stop-motion animation by the BrotherhoodWorkshop, you also get a happy song to sing along.

Fun, isn’t it? In the behind-the-scenes video Kevin mentions that this stop-motion film took over 200 hours to create. He also shares some of the techniques used for developing the story, for filming, and for changing facial expressions on the minifigures. I think the end result is a very enjoyable little film that matches the song perfectly.

You may have also notice that Kevin used some of the LEGO Modular Buildings for the street, including the #10246 LEGO Creator Detective’s Office and the #10218 LEGO Creator Pet Shop. Notice though, that he wasn’t afraid to use these sets creatively; taking them apart and stacking them in different ways to create a backdrop. Very clever.

So what do you think? How did you like this LEGO stop-motion video? And what you do think of the tutorial? Did you find it helpful? Do you do LEGO animation yourself? Have you used stock footage before in your brickfilms or photos? Feel free to share your thoughts and own experiences in the comment section below! 😉

Also, if you would like to learn more about LEGO stop-motion, I highly recommend checking out the other videos from the BrotherhoodWorkshop listed below, or you can also visit their YouTube Channel directly for more.

I actually never heard of this group before, but after Kevin sendt me the video, I listened to several of their performances. They sound really good! 🙂

I really liked this animation; it probably has to be one of my favorite of BHW’s (even though it’s not LotR-based). I just really like the variety of facial expressions and how they respond to the music.

Yeah, they are getting better and better with facial expressions. A lot of work goes into these videos and it shows.
