LEGO The Age of Ultron in 2 Minutes

The BrotherhoodWorkshop has teamed up with How It Should Have Ended (HISHE) on a number of projects over the past year (see links at the end of this post), and their biggest collaboration so far has been the recreation of The Age of Ultron film in two minutes. 🙂

LEGO Age of Ultron in 2 Minutes

This LEGO stop-motion video took over five weeks and 250 hours to produce, with each of the major scenes of the movie getting boiled down to short humorous shots. Below you can watch the full video, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage where Kevin shares some tips and tricks about how the LEGO stop-motion video was created.

Awesome, isn’t it? In the behind-the-scenes video Kevin explains an interesting LEGO stop-motion technique called downshooting, where objects are laid down flat against a green-screen, and the camera is positioned directly above them. This allows the creation of a lot of really cool flying effects that would be very difficult to create otherwise. Kevin also discusses the challenge of keeping balance between busy action shots and the speed these scenes are played back at, as too busy and too fast sections can get messy and confusing no matter how great each shot looks.

Another new feature of this video was the extensive use of miniature lights provided by BrickStuff. We have reviewed these excellent miniature lights made specifically for LEGO fans here: Light Up Your LEGO Models with BrickStuff. And you can find the currently available LEGO Super Heroes Age of Ultron sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

Recreating movie scenes or movie trailers is a good place to start out as a brickfilmer, because the story and the scenes are already provided for you. All you need to focus on is creating the scenes with LEGO stop-motion techniques. If you would like to learn more about LEGO stop-motion, I highly recommend checking out the other videos from the BrotherhoodWorkshop listed below, or you can also visit their YouTube Channel directly for more.

LOL that’s really cool! I often use that downshooting technique when making stop motion animations, but I never thought to apply it in that way with a brick film!
